Chapter 43 - Sheltering a Beauty, Blade is Captured

Zhou Yi flew in through the floor-to-ceiling windows from the living room, gently placing the girl in his arms onto the sofa. Although the sun had already risen, the depth of the living room completely blocked the sunlight, keeping the bright rays at a distance from the sofa.

Even when the sun's rays were at their most intense, they wouldn't reach the sofa where the girl lay. The full-length panoramic windows would only allow sunlight to fill a third of the hall, no more. This design was originally intended to protect some artwork on the walls from sun damage, but now it served as a safety measure for the vampire girl.

Perhaps it was being so close to sunlight for the first time, or maybe it was the first time living with a man. Serana seemed a little uneasy.

She looked around the room like a kitten in a strange place, and the sheer opulence of the scene made her gasp in amazement.

Not every vampire lived a life of luxury like in the novels. Most vampires lived a life of uncertainty, much like those involved in organized crime. And girls like Serana, without any support and just coming of age, were even worse off, possibly struggling to make a living.

They weren't like humans, who had welfare programs to maintain a basic standard of living. Vampires, unable to walk in the sunlight, didn't even qualify for welfare. Night wasn't the working hours for civil servants, even in supposedly democratic America.

"You live in a place like this? It must be expensive!" Serana asked, sounding a little self-conscious. This luxurious villa was clearly beyond the imagination of a poor girl who had never handled large sums of cash.

"It's alright, just a place where I can rest in peace. Comfortable enough for me." Zhou Yi, who had already put away his Dawn Knight attire, walked over to the girl with two glasses of milk. He didn't want to tell her the villa had cost over sixty million dollars; it might scare her.

"My girl, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Yi. Zhou, according to Chinese customs, you can call me Zhou Yi, or just Yi." Zhou Yi said as he placed a glass of milk in front of the girl.

Serana wasn't a career woman who worked in finance, and Zhou Yi wasn't a celebrity tycoon with high exposure like Tony. So Serana didn't know what this name represented. She could only judge from her observations that this Chinese man, who had a dual identity and was willing to bring her home, seemed quite wealthy. As for how wealthy, she couldn't say for sure.

The girl took the milk, sat there awkwardly, and fidgeted with the cup, but never drank it. At this moment, she was like the ugly duckling who had entered the Crystal Palace, feeling that every movement of hers was so awkward.

Zhou Yi sat beside her, reached out one hand to hold her hands, which were actually moving unconsciously, and the other hand touched her hair.

"Don't be so constrained, Serana. You can treat this place as your own home. There's only you and me here, you don't have to worry, and you don't have to think so much."

Serana was as docile as a kitten. She pressed her face against Zhou Yi's chest, gently rubbing against him, and said in a timid tone, "I'm sorry, I'm just not used to it. I've never been to a place like this before, and I'm a little scared."

"Don't be afraid, my good girl. You might just be a little unaccustomed to the sudden change of environment." Gently straightening the girl's braids, Zhou Yi suggested, "I think you should take a hot bath and get a good night's sleep. You'll feel better soon."

He had already seen that milk couldn't be accepted by the vampire girl, so he could only use another method to soothe the girl's emotions. For this girl, who seemed to be about ten years younger than him, Zhou Yi even found the feeling of taking care of Sharice when she was a child.

Zhou Yi carried the girl into the guest room, which was kept spotless by the temporary cleaners who came regularly. He first closed the floor-to-ceiling windows, shutting out the sunlight completely. Then, he set the girl down and said to her,

"Rest well, Serana. I will take care of everything for you."

Serana, no longer as she had first appeared, had finally shed that alluring facade, leaving behind only the shyness and charm of a delicate girl. She blushed and said thank you, looking like a water lily about to bloom. Zhou Yi smiled with satisfaction and turned to leave.

He had many things to do, including solving Serana's food problem. Even milk couldn't be considered food; did it really have to be fresh blood? Zhou Yi already had the idea of getting some supplies from the medical institutions under his control.

At that moment, on the other side, Blade also encountered a problem. Blade, who had decided to stay away from the whole farce, chose to leave, just like the Dawn Knight. But he found that the enthusiastic host didn't seem to want the guest to leave just like that.

A group of people wearing tactical gear and holding standard firearms had blocked his path. Judging by the numbers, there were at least two squads here. With that kind of firepower, even with Blade's skills, he basically had no hope of fighting back. At most, he could rely on his super-strong physique to endure for a while and take the opportunity to escape.

But it was obvious that these guys had made thorough preparations; they already knew Blade's every weakness.

In front of Blade, two people were pushed out. They were Blade's two assistants, Whistler and Josh.

Facing Blade, Whistler silently shook his head, clearly disapproving of his surrender. Josh wore an embarrassed smile. "Dude, I have no idea what's going on. They just grabbed me."

If they threatened Blade with other hostages, he might not care about their lives. But using his assistant to threaten him, Blade was bound to comply.

Whistler alone was enough to hold Blade. He was not just his assistant, his teacher, but also a father figure. The biggest reason Whistler had survived being captured by the Bloodkin two or three times was Blade's presence.

For the Bloodkin, controlling Whistler was controlling Blade. If they couldn't control Whistler's will, threatening Blade with his life would be just as effective.

Blade had no other choice in the face of this threat. He had spent three years looking for Whistler. Besides the good fortune of finding him, the Bloodkin wanted him alive. But now, the Bloodkin Grand Duke Marquinhos had revealed his hand. They no longer cared whether Whistler lived or died because they needed to capture Blade this time.

Blade pulled the silver-plated blade from his back and stuck it into the ground, then threw his guns away. The group immediately formed ranks, and two guys in white coats brought out some equipment. Blade recognized one of them; it was Kairo, the one who called himself a legal advisor in the castle before.

Seeing the confused look on Blade's face, Kairo grinned.

"We meet again, Mr. Blade. Perhaps my introduction last time was incomplete, so I can add some details. I am still the Chief Researcher of the European Health Foundation, and I believe we will have a very pleasant experience."

After speaking, he waved his hand. Two tactical personnel rushed forward. They first ripped off Blade's trench coat to prevent any hidden weapons. This was indeed quite fatal for Blade, as he had indeed hidden a lot of things in his trench coat, and these were what he planned to use to turn the tables.

Having removed Blade's last line of defense, the two armed personnel immediately slammed the butts of their rifles onto the back of Blade's head. Blade gritted his teeth for a moment and spat. He turned and said,

"Guys, haven't you eaten? Hit harder."

The two armed personnel exchanged glances and pulled out two stun batons from their waists, directly applying them to Blade's body. These modified stun batons were more powerful, effective even on a superhuman like Blade.

The high-intensity current struck Blade's body, and he lost his ability to resist in less than ten seconds. To make Blade even safer, another guy in a white coat immediately injected him in the neck. The injection contained a powerful sedative; it wouldn't make Blade fall asleep, but it would make him lose his combat ability.

Watching a guy stronger and more terrifying than a lion or tiger become more docile than a house pet, Kairo smiled triumphantly. He liked this feeling very much; of course, it would be even better if he could put him on the operating table and watch him break down mentally with fear in front of him.

After subduing Blade, Kairo waved his hand. Soon, his subordinates stuffed Blade and his two assistants into the back of a large truck. There was also a group of people inside the truck, the Bloodkin guard who were useless after sunrise.

They were not relaxed at this moment. Not only were they suffering from the psychological blow after the failed attack, but more importantly, their teammates were in critical condition.

Chuba desperately held down the struggling priest on the operating table, while two paramedics frantically administered injections. But it was all in vain; the priest continued to writhe, his appearance undergoing a terrifying transformation.

His hair began to fall out with each struggle, and Chuba accidentally tugged on it, ripping off a large chunk of scalp along with it.

At the same time, his skin rapidly turned pale. Unlike the usual pallor of a Bloodkin, this was a ghastly, waterlogged color, beneath which twisted veins, now a blue-black, were visible, creating a bizarre sight.

His eyes also began to change drastically. Generally, a Bloodkin's eye color was the same as a human's, with the usual range of iris colors. The priest's eyes had been blue. Now, however, his pupils began to rapidly congest with blood, becoming cloudy as if injected with something.

In less than two minutes, his blue irises were gone, replaced by a murky gray and the color of tainted blood.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The most horrifying thing was when a fine line suddenly split his lower jaw. This line grew longer and longer, extending down to his throat. The depth of the split also increased. It began with just the skin, then progressed to the muscle. When it reached the bone, they could clearly see the jaw, now split in two and transformed into a mouth-like structure with needle-sharp fangs, writhing wildly with his agony.

Chuba no longer dared to hold the priest down. The circle of people around him stood back in silence. For a moment, the only sound in the vehicle was the priest's muffled cries.

"Kill me, put me out of my misery! Kill me, quickly!"
