Chapter 119 - Mind Realm, Divergence Arises

Logan slowly went deeper into the Base. His footsteps echoed in the empty Base, making his nerves tense. For him, it was eerily quiet.

With his sensitive hearing and sense of smell, he didn't feel any life here. It was as if this wasn't Stryker's military Base, but a long-abandoned dam.

But his reason was still there, and his mind clearly told him that everything he had experienced was real. Whether it was the previous battle, tracking Magneto and the others, or this battle that concerned the fate of the Mutants, it was all undoubtedly real. There must be something wrong with all of this.

He carefully took his steps, trying to slow his breathing as much as possible, following the direction of his intuition, and cautiously groping forward. He felt that there must be something ahead of him.

Darkness, you couldn't see your fingers. The smell of rotten rust came to his nostrils. Walking in the corridor, he could feel a disgusting stickiness from his skin at all times. Logan knew this was the feeling of spiderwebs wrapping around him, but he still didn't understand. Why was it like this?

Someone had clearly walked ahead, why were these spiderwebs still there?

He extended his claws, and the alloy blades scraped a long string of sparks on the slippery wall. With this faint light and his sharp eyes, he saw the situation ahead.

The Base, which had become ruins, was full of accumulated dust and spiderwebs. Corroded and deformed metal was everywhere, collapsed cages, and gray-white skeletons appeared in his field of vision. This was a true dead silence, a dead silence washed over by the torrent of time.

Looking around, Logan's eyes began to cloud with confusion. He felt his memories becoming jumbled, and he couldn't even remember how long this stretch of time had been. It felt like hundreds of years had passed, even though it was just a short while of traversing the corridor. Everything had become a decaying past.

This unreal sense of temporal distortion made his head throb. He started charging forward, ignoring everything in front of him, just wanting to escape this unimaginable unreality. However, as he was running, he crashed into a black figure.

Sharp, thick armor, a cape woven from fine metal threads that reflected a faint light. The prism on the helmet shimmered with a bright blue glow. The moment Logan saw this figure, he breathed a sigh of relief. This figure represented the most powerful and trustworthy force, and seeing it filled Logan's heart with courage and confidence.

But the bizarre situation still lingered in his mind. He couldn't wait to grab the shoulder armor of the figure in front of him and tell him everything he had discovered. However, something even harder for him to believe appeared before his eyes.

The armor instantly lost all its weight, and all the parts clattered to the ground. The once-bright black dimmed in the blink of an eye and grew disgusting rust at a visible rate. Underneath the decaying armor, Logan clearly saw pale bones.

"Who could kill him?" Logan muttered in disbelief. Having witnessed the Dawn Knight's god-like power in Paris, he couldn't believe anyone could kill such a being.

Extreme doubt and fear surged through his mind, causing him to instinctively reach out and touch the armor and bones. However, the coldness and roughness of the decaying metal, and the feeling of fragile bones turning to powder in his palm, gave him a terrible sense of reality.

Watching the ashes flow from his stiff hand, Logan clenched his fists. He started walking forward again. If this was a nightmare, he hoped it would end soon. If this was reality, then he had to figure out what was going on here. He had to keep going.

Continuing forward, he saw a pair of skeletons, their hands tightly clasped together. The remaining red leather and blue-green cloth seemed to confirm their identities: the siblings, with their incredible abilities, who served Magneto. Despite being mentally prepared, Logan was still shocked.

Even those who truly raced against time hadn't escaped. Even his sister, who possessed abilities that even the Dawn Knight found tricky, was buried here. What could possibly be here?

Logan continued walking, and along the way, he saw skeletons wearing strange helmets and old robes, and a corpse with blue scales huddled in a corner. He guessed their identities, but he could no longer muster any particular emotion for them. He was already numb.

His mind was completely blank. Logan wandered aimlessly through this place, overwhelmed by death and decay, like a walking corpse. He had completely forgotten the passage of time, just wandering, without an end, yet never stopping.

And at this moment, in the same place, different people had different feelings.

Zhou Yi's figure stood before Logan, and the Logan in his eyes was completely different from before. Dark age spots began to appear on his body, and pale hair grew like bamboo shoots after the rain, replacing his original black. His full muscles gradually became flaccid, and even his eyes became dull and cloudy.

He completely ignored the Zhou Yi in front of him, just slowly taking steps. With each step, Zhou Yi could feel his vigorous life force weakening by a fraction. This was theoretically impossible, but now it was actually happening. The immortal Wolverine would die from the decline of his own life, which was both ridiculous and terrifying.

However, it wasn't just Logan. Everyone deep inside this Base was like this, all the soldiers, all the Mutants. Even Mystique and Quicksilver, whom Zhou Yi had brought, were caught in a strange situation. They wandered through this Base like walking corpses, and at the same time, terrible changes were happening to their bodies.

Only three people were exceptions, and only three people discovered the strangeness here. Zhou Yi, Scarlet Witch, and Magneto, who was wearing a helmet that was immune to all mental powers. They knew that everything that was happening here was a mental attack, but they were otherwise at a loss, and they also had serious disagreements.

"Erik, we must save them. If this continues, they will die soon," Wanda stared intently at her younger brother, her eyes filled with fear and unease for the first time.

Beside her, Quicksilver adopted a strange running posture, but he was as slow as a crawling snail. And with every little movement, his body became thinner. His young and vibrant body quickly withered away, his skin began to cling tightly to his bones, and his hair became withered, as if all the water and fat in his body had begun to dissipate.

Wanda desperately drove her red mist, trying to repair her brother's body. But although the red mist miraculously repaired his body, the next second he evolved into a deteriorating form. Wanda tried her best, but she couldn't reverse it at all.

Watching Wanda repeat the futile action again and again, Magneto first glanced at his most capable subordinate.

Mystique Raven's body, standing still, twitched constantly, as if she were going through something painful. With each twitch, a new wound appeared on her body. It was like a knife cut, or like a fire burn, or the bloody skin fell off, or blood spurted out. This situation reminded him of something extremely unpleasant.

Then he tried to suppress his inner emotions and whispered.

"I'm sorry, child. We don't have time to waste here, we must move forward. Stop what is about to happen."

"What?" Wanda's voice rose sharply, laced with unimaginable fury as she demanded, "Pietro is your son, and you've never taken any responsibility for us as a father. Now, are you trying to abandon his life?"

"I have no other choice!" Magneto looked directly into his daughter's eyes, his voice firm and unwavering. "Our race is facing an end, and I can't gamble with this precious time. Wanda, come with me. If it were Pietro, he would want you to do the same."

Looking at Magneto's outstretched hand, Wanda's eyes were icy. She coldly brushed his hand away, speaking with the tone of someone addressing a stranger.

"Let your race die. I'm not going anywhere, I'm staying with my brother."

"Wanda, this is the worst choice you could make!" Magneto exclaimed in frustration, only to be cut off by her.

"It would have been my worst choice if I had changed. I should have listened to Pietro from the start and stayed as far away as possible from you, you madman."

After saying this, she ignored the old man, who was only concerned with his own race, and devoted herself entirely to healing her brother.

Seeing her attitude, Magneto turned to Zhou Yi. He had already guessed the answer, but he still asked, unwilling to give up.

"And you, Dawn Knight. What's your choice?"

"My friends are here!" Zhou Yi responded coldly, beginning to look around. But in this place, his super vision seemed to be obstructed by something. He couldn't see through everything in this dam at all.

"Don't forget, your sister is also closely related to Charles. If you're a step slow, she'll likely die right in front of you." Magneto grasped at his weakness, trying to persuade him. He knew how important Sharice was to Zhou Yi, and that was one of the most important reasons he could come here.

"I believe in the arrangements of fate; it won't let me down. Similarly, I also believe in my intuition, and it has never let me down either."

Zhou Yi's words made Magneto feel absurd and ridiculous. He didn't believe in gods and even less in fate. He only believed in his own power. And for these two people who had thoroughly disappointed him, he had already lost the desire to persuade them further. Even if no one helped, he would save Charles with his own strength, or make a worse decision.

Turning away resolutely, Erik had become a lone hero in his own right. He had to be responsible for his race, not for one or two individual lives. He had made his decision and would never regret it. Moreover, he had long since run out of room for regret.
