Chapter 142 - Helpless, Hive Order

Deep in the forest, a terrifying roar echoed, the sound of a battle between two different creatures.

One was a massive feline, its sleek fur concealing well-defined, powerful muscles. Its graceful form was like that of a noble dancer. Its entire body was a solid, pure black, like the night itself, making it the perfect assassin in the darkness.

A rare Black Panther. However, compared to its kind, apart from its rare black fur, its size was even more unusual. It stood nearly five feet at the shoulder, making it almost as large as a full-grown bull. In this regard alone, it was already a giant among its kind.

There was almost no possibility of a larger panther in the world, or even a larger feline. Even a Siberian tiger would look like a dwarf in front of it.

And now, this enormous Black Panther was pinning a figure to the ground in a strange posture. It was growling at the figure, and the figure was also roaring back at it. The other terrifying roar came from his mouth.

It was a muscular adult male. Bald, and his body was packed with explosive muscles. His tall stature, coupled with those intertwined, steel-like muscles, made him look even more imposing than a so-called bodybuilder. But he was a mad beast.

From just now until now, he had been roaring, desperately trying to attack the panther on top of him. He used his hands and feet, even trying to bite. You couldn't see any rationality in his eyes, only madness, bloodlust, and extreme aggression. He was no different from those zombies.

And he was, in fact, a zombie. A zombie that had been treated.

Invisible psychic power concentrated on his skull, shattering everything within. The struggling creature instantly stopped its frantic movements, its massive body convulsing a few times before ceasing all motion. With the commotion beneath his feet gone, the Black Panther began to shake its large head, looking towards the person standing to the side.

Having done all this, Zhou Yi shook his head at the corpse, a look of regret on his face.

He had originally hoped that his authority, the Solar Blessing's healing power, could restore the zombie to a human state. But he found he had been too optimistic.

While the Solar Blessing could bring a life to its healthiest state, that was only physically. Zombies, in essence, were not merely physically broken; it was more that their brains were broken. The moment they became zombies, their brains had essentially died. Even divine power couldn't bring them back from the dead. At most, it could only make them stronger zombies.

To be honest, Zhou Yi was somewhat disappointed by this result, but not surprised. He had long been mentally prepared for this. The current situation was just a bad estimation turning into reality. Moreover, there was still a certain amount of surprise.

A whistle, and the giant Black Panther strode over with elegant steps, quietly arriving beside Zhou Yi. Its huge head nudged against Zhou Yi's chest, then began to gently rub against him, like a pampered house cat.

Zhou Yi gently scratched under the big cat's chin, causing it to purr comfortably.

For Zhou Yi, this big cat was today's unexpected delight. Like the zombie just now, it was also an animal infected with the virus, but before it could be completely transformed into a zombie animal, Zhou Yi had saved it and used the Solar Blessing on it.

The virus was stopped before it could destroy its will. And a miraculous change occurred on its body. The virus didn't destroy it, but instead, it promoted changes in its body, like evolution. Its body was larger, its muscles were stronger, and its brain seemed to have been developed.

Zhou Yi could clearly feel that it was far more intelligent than a beast. Because not only could it understand Zhou Yi's meaning, but it was also very willing to accept his commands. The feeling was as if this big cat was a pet he had raised for many years.

This meant his power could cure the virus, as long as he could save those infected before they were completely transformed. This wasn't easy, but it was much better than not being able to save them at all. Because, no matter what, this was a hope, a hope that could save lives.

The big cat was still rubbing against Zhou Yi's chest, as if hoping Zhou Yi would scratch it harder. But Zhou Yi didn't continue. He pushed the big cat's massive head and said to it, in its confused gaze.

"Sorry, good girl. Now isn't the time to play with you. I have more important things to do."

The Black Panther stared with its brown-yellow eyes, letting out a low whimper from its throat in a very human-like way, as if it were a child who had been wronged.

Ever since Zhou Yi had saved it, it had instinctively developed a feeling of dependence on him. It was like the feelings children have for their parents. This feeling was very pure, because its birth didn't contain any impurities. It came entirely from the most primitive instincts.

Because of this, when Zhou Yi expressed his intention to leave, it immediately felt a huge disappointment. And it instinctively expressed it.

Seeing the Black Panther complaining to him like a child, Zhou Yi also felt a little regret. To be honest, he quite liked this big cat, and if it weren't for what was happening here, he really wanted to raise it.

But now, he couldn't be so willful as to let this Black Panther follow him. A monster-like panther appearing in Raken City would definitely cause panic. It wasn't a good thing for either humans or it. Unless, after everything was over.

But by then, it was estimated that the big cat would have already forgotten this feeling. Just like it had forgotten its own mother.

Steel-hearted, Zhou Yi still pushed away the clinging big cat. His figure flew quickly through the forest, heading towards the city. At his speed, the big cat couldn't possibly keep up with him, so he left with peace of mind.

But he hadn't anticipated the Black Panther's tenacity. Panthers are born hunters; they can even track their prey through an entire jungle. So, as soon as he left, the big cat sprang into action as well. The black beast leaped and bounded through the forest, following his scent. This was the persistence of an animal; compared to humans, they rarely gave up.

Zhou Yi didn't know a big cat was tracking him. At that moment, he was contacting Medusa, hoping she could help him get the information he wanted: intel about S.T.A.R.S.

Soon, Medusa replied. A set of classified documents appeared before his eyes. Seeing the information, Zhou Yi couldn't help but smile. Everything was pretty much as he'd expected; S.T.A.R.S was getting crushed at this point.

The leaders of both teams had died unexpectedly, and most of the members had met with accidents. Only a few people had survived. And even those survivors weren't doing well; they were facing various accusations and punishments. Two of them were even suspended and investigated, publicly labeled as mentally unstable in the media.

The reason was very simple: these two survivors were spreading rumors, claiming that man-eating monsters existed. They had caused a certain amount of chaos in Raken City.

It was obvious that this was Umbrella's doing. And anyone targeted by Umbrella in this way couldn't possibly be Umbrella's own people. So, at this moment, they were worth recruiting for Zhou Yi.

While Zhou Yi was still striving to take down Umbrella and protect the humans in the city...

Raymond, who had been desperately searching for Zhou Yi, was staring grimly at a document.

That was an order, jointly signed by the highest-ranking personnel of Umbrella. This order held the highest authority within Umbrella, and its content was very simple: it demanded that Raymond restart the Hive within the day.

Everything that had happened inside the Hive had been classified as a spy infiltration. The higher-ups, worried that their greatest research achievements might be stolen, could no longer tolerate Raymond's procrastination. Their wording was harsh, and they repeatedly emphasized the deadline.

The restart of the Hive was already irreversible. If Raymond continued to be perfunctory, he would receive the most severe punishment.

Upon seeing this order, Raymond's entire demeanor turned gloomy and angry. He wanted to curse these core members in front of their faces, but it was just a fantasy. He didn't have the courage. The ruthlessness within Umbrella was enough to turn the most spirited person into a trembling little quail. Moreover, he was never a spirited person to begin with.

So, in the end, he chose to compromise.

"Issue the order. At four o'clock this afternoon, restart the Hive on time! Deploy as many of our personnel as possible and make all the necessary protective preparations."

Hearing this order, his assistant was stunned.

"Sir, there are less than three hours until four o'clock. We don't have enough personnel, and isn't it a bit too late to prepare now?"

"If we're short-handed, pull people from here. Anyone with experience in this area, send them over immediately. Also, start the preparations now. No matter what, the Hive reactivation must begin on schedule. This is an order from above, the highest level. I don't think I need to explain what that means, do I?"

Hearing this, the second-in-command's expression also changed. He rushed out to issue Raymond's orders. The highest-level order was like a guillotine hanging over their heads, forcing him to give it his all. He knew that if this matter failed, they would definitely not have a good ending. As Raymond's second-in-command, they were, in a sense, bound together.

Watching his second-in-command run out like he was being chased by a rabid dog, a hint of gloom reappeared in Raymond's eyes. He had long been dissatisfied with those damn old geezers at headquarters. And now, these grievances were like explosives piled together, just waiting for a spark to set them off.

And in Umbrella, would there be a shortage of sparks?

Thinking of this, his face became even more ferocious. A low growl escaped from between his teeth.

"Don't let me find an opportunity, you damn old bastards. Otherwise, your time will be up."
