Karma's POVđ
â„
I'm in heaven, a guy's arms- when I hear the annoying alarm sound in the background pulling me back to reality. I open my eyes, releasing a groan as I grabbed the alarm and threw it somewhere across the room stopping the noise.
A moment of silence-pure bliss.
I sit stretch my arms upward while releasing a yawn before I lazily get off the bed and shuffle my way to the bathroom.
I easily catch my reflection in the mirror. To say I looked horrible would be an understatement. My hair looked like a bird's nest. Hell- I'm sure birds wouldn't even want it. My face wasn't exactly in good shape either.
Like why am I complaining when I literally don't care.
"Start your day with positivity Karma." I mutter to myself and with that thought get a nice warm bath. Stepping out I do my skincare and my hair before I get into my clothes - a brown oversized hoodie with some intricate designs on the front, a cream skirt and some socks with my black shoes. No makeup, I like to keep it natural. I left my curls as it is.
Stepping out and downstairs, I met my mom in the kitchen - probably making something for the youngest, my brother and her favorite. I muttered a warm greeting which she didn't reply to or she didn't hear. Either way she pushed a lunchbox in front of me and I almost smiled.
-Almost..
"Kristian came here. He said you haven't been answering his calls" my mom said sounding really genuine, always interested.
"I didn't answer because I have nothing to say to that idiota" I whispered but my mom heard, stopped whatever she was about to do and turned to face me.
"Well, that does not matter. You are betrothed to him so when he has something to say to you, you listen" my mom said looking at me calmly before breaking eye contact-like it meant nothing and hugged her son as if he was going to war.
I pushed the lunchbox back-i had lost my appetite. What a nice way to spoil my day. She didn't even try.
"Annoying shi-," I muttered as I got out and into the car that was waiting for me. Funnily I wasn't even allowed to drive on my own because they thought I'd run away. Which I definitely would with how things were going.
"Kristian's place," I told the driver. He nodded and drove.
He pulled up in front of Kristian's villa-sleek, modern, riché. Just like him. Flashy and hollow. I stepped out and spotted him immediately. That lazy smirk on his face, a girl trailing behind him like a lost puppy.
Unbelievable.
Why complain about me when you're out here being trash in public?. His smile faded the second he saw me, and he shoved the girl off him like she was COVID.
"Ohh good stuff, you're here." he said, stepped forward and made to grab my waist as if we were casual but I didn't let him. I grabbed his arms and twisted it-but he didn't want to be embarrassed in front of "his" girl so bent down as if he'd changed his mind last minute.
"Don't ever call me that nonsense again and next time you whine to the parents about me, say bye bye to your nuts, you creep" I said under my breath.
Then I stomped on his foot and walked off.
What was his problem? He could flirt around but I couldn't breathe and blink without permission? Just because I'm a girl?
They're going to see.
And soon.
I got back into the car and told the driver to take me to school. I couldn't spend another second in that stinking villa.
Another day of hell-school.
It was only better because of my friends-Anastasia and Speaking of my she-demons, there they were causing ruckus and stealing the glances from every dude in the hallway. Despite being in final year, they had juniors sucking up to them.
Beauty- a dangerous possession.
"Look who crawled out of her her nest," Anastasia grinned, looping her arm through mine. She wore confidence like perfume-intoxicating and lethal.
"Don't start," I muttered, but my lips twitched. She'd earned the right.
Gretchen slung her arm around my shoulder. "I swear, if you ghosted us one more day, I was going to break into your room and drag you out by that wild curly hair."
"Not dramatic at all and I doubt my mother would let you past the living room."
They snickered and pulled me toward class. Anastasia showed me her acrylic nails, with diamonds etched to the tips. She was playing with fashion like a a toddler would a game.
"They look good. I'm jealous" I said
The morning dragged with the usual-teachers talking, students pretending to care, me doodling knives in my notebook and spacing out.
Then lunch came. Sweet freedom.
We went off campus-thanks to Gretchen's charm and Anastasia's lies-and ended up at this cute café just outside the school gates. I barely touched my sandwich, sipping on iced tea while they chatted.
"So, there's this bar downtown," Gretchen said, eyes gleaming. "It's underground. Real music. Real chaos. And real men"
"This Friday," Anastasia added. "It's invite-only, but we know someone."
I raised a brow. "Cool. I'm in."
They blinked.
Gretchen paused mid-bite. "Wait-what?"
"I said I'm in."
"You've never said yes to parties," Anastasia said slowly, eyes narrowing in suspicion. "You don't even like people."
"Exactly," I shrugged. "Sounds like the perfect time and place to disappear ."
They exchanged looks.
"Who are you and what have you done with our bat queen?" Gretchen joked, grinning.
I leaned back in my chair sipping my tea. "Let's just say... I'm trying new things."
They look at me as if I've grown horns or I've gotten a third eye but then they cave in.
And maybe-just maybe-I was tired of being the girl everyone tried to control, muted all in the name of protection.
I'm going to break rules and I'm going to let them see it.
Let them watch me burn.
"Im not going back. You guys can head off to school first"
"Party's tomorrow. Wouldn't want to look like a mashed papaya right?" I continued casually taking my bag before leaving.
