Chapter 1 - Honkai Simulator, are you looking for me? Chapter 1

1. Simulator? Prepare to die a few times first!

[You have ended up in Sundown Alley, displaced and wandering. This place is lawless, but at least there's a way to survive.]

[But that path to survival doesn't belong to you. You feel incredibly weak. Purple patterns have appeared on your skin, a sign of Honkai erosion.]

[Every cell in your body is rebelling against you. A heart-piercing, sharp pain spreads throughout your entire body. You no longer have the strength to move.]

[You feel death approaching. You lie down in a street corner, find a relatively clean spot, and quietly await death's arrival.]

[Before you appears a golden-haired woman dressed as a nun.]

[She kneels before you, looking very sorrowful. Her grief makes you, who had accepted your fate, feel a pang of pity for her—she has determined that you are beyond saving.]

[Your vision gradually blurs. The nun reaches out, intending to close your eyes, but you muster your last bit of strength and grab her wrist.]

[You say—]

"Hey, don't be sad, Miss Nun. You look much prettier when you smile—see you next time. And no, I don't mean in hell."

[Everything fades to black. An endless cold consumes you.]

[You have died.]

Earth, Europe, Vienna, Austria, several thousand meters in the sky.

Above the clouds, stars twinkle.

Night, inside the 3rd Office Building of the "Schicksal" Headquarters, Fitness Room.

A tall, slender young man with delicate features and short black hair is lying asleep on the seat of a fitness machine.

"Ha— cough, cough, cough."

Gao Qi opened his eyes, coughing violently a few times as if he was about to cough up a lung.

Before him was no longer a dilapidated, decaying dark alley, but a bright, tidy, spacious gym filled with various fitness equipment.

Gao Qi was sitting slumped in a seated row machine; clearly, he had been sleeping soundly just moments before.

It was almost bedtime, and the gym was empty except for Gao Qi, so he wasn't worried about embarrassment.

Gao Qi smiled awkwardly and continued pulling the seated row machine. Exercising after busy work had become his habit.

[Dammit, this world is way too dangerous. This must be my ninth... tenth simulation, right? My survival time never exceeded a week! This is brutal!]

Gao Qi had been in the Honkai world for a month now. After confirming the existence of related terms and the occasional occurrence of various major disasters, he understood he was in the game world of Honkai Impact 3rd.

While crossing into a game he liked was certainly enjoyable, being an ordinary person, and a male with zero Honkai adaptability at that, in this world where disasters could erupt at any moment, made every step precarious. He could kick the bucket at any time!

Wouldn't it be better to go to the neighboring world Teyvat? It's safer there! Major catastrophes are mostly in the background lore, and hardly anyone has died so far!

Compared to the threat to his life, the allure of being in another world felt smaller.

Fortunately, Gao Qi was in Vienna, home to the Schicksal Headquarters, humanity's largest organization against the Honkai.

However, a little over a month ago, a world-level Honkai eruption swept across the globe, and a fierce battle also took place at the Schicksal Headquarters.

Half of the floating island was completely destroyed in the intense battle. The internal details weren't even fully known to Valkyries below B-rank; they only knew the Far East branch had initiated a rebellion.

Gao Qi, both unlucky and fortunate, got caught up in it. He sustained minor injuries, was quickly rescued, and participated in the local post-disaster relief efforts. He performed excellently, organizing a small rescue team and even cooperating with some Valkyries.

Reconstruction still required a lot of manpower. Gao Qi was soon recommended by a Valkyrie and, after review, joined Schicksal, landing a team leader position in the logistics department, participating in the repair work of the Schicksal Headquarters—basically, manual labor!

Others might not know what happened at the Schicksal Headquarters, but Gao Qi knew perfectly well. It was a major event filled with despair and sacrifice, one that set the protagonists on their arduous journey—the Queen's Descend, The Final Lesson.

Teacher Himeko, my Teacher Himeko!

The timeline was already so far along. Gao Qi didn't know whether to be sad or relieved. At least, after this big battle, his current location was temporarily safe—although a certain brat would escape later, it wasn't too dangerous.

But the future remained uncertain. Schicksal's Overseer, Otto Apocalypse, was a devoted lover, but also a scumbag. He only had one things in his mind: Kallen, and everything else that wasn't important.

Gao Qi had no combat power and could become cannon fodder at any moment for this guy's goal of resurrecting his unrequited love! That old bastard always had flexible moral standards.

However, luckily, Gao Qi wasn't entirely helpless. The thing called the "Honkai Simulation System," which appeared when he crossed over, was his major asset.

[Simulation Complete. Evaluation Grade: F. Your presence changed nothing, but you caused Aponia a moment of puzzlement.]

[You died from Honkai Infection. Reward Acquired — Honkai Resistance Antibody (Low-grade): Your body gains some resistance to Honkai energy, slightly slowing the Honkai erosion rate, and maintains a degree of rationality while under erosion.]

[Ten instances of Honkai Resistance Antibody (Low-grade) held. Automatic fusion initiated — Obtained Honkai Resistance Antibody (Mid-grade).]

[Honkai Resistance Antibody (Mid-grade): Your body naturally possesses good resistance to Honkai energy. It can significantly slow the erosion process when facing Honkai energy corrosion, extending survival time to several tens of days, depending on Honkai energy intensity.]

[Note: Unlike Honkai Adaptability, Honkai Resistance Antibody does not allow the host to utilize Honkai energy.]

"Phew, at least there's some gain."

Watching the ten grey "Common" entries merge into one, turning into a sparkling blue "Rare" one, Gao Qi let out a long sigh.

Based on his exploration, the Honkai Simulator seemed to be able to simulate challenging scenarios based on Gao Qi's memories of the game. As long as he fell asleep, Gao Qi could enter them for training, ultimately strengthening his real self.

Although the events experienced probably weren't real, the memories and experiences Gao Qi gained within them could be retained.

And each time a simulation ended in death, he would receive a summary reward based on the changes he made to the worldline within the simulation.

So far, through several simulations—sometimes entering the world of the Previous Era 50,000 years ago, other times the modern world, whether in bustling cities or icy polar regions—without exception, he unluckily encountered Honkai outbreaks.

At first, contaminated by Honkai energy, Gao Qi would practically die instantly in immense pain.

Dying from Honkai each time, even though he changed nothing and got the lowest evaluation, he still received Honkai Resistance.

The sheer terror of death made Gao Qi need several days to recover before he was willing to enter the simulator again. Then, relying on the low-grade Honkai Resistance obtained the first time, he managed to hold on a bit longer each time—that pain was truly unbearable.

Let alone learning any experience, he could hardly even meet living people. Fortunately, Gao Qi had gotten used to dying, completely disregarding his own life in the simulations. Each time a simulation started, he would desperately try to escape the Honkai contamination zone.

Also, because Gao Qi's starting state in each simulation was based on his real-world condition, he consistently worked out seriously, striving to build muscle, which allowed him to last progressively longer.

Perseverance paid off. In this simulation, he finally made it out of the Honkai contamination zone and met an old acquaintance. Facing that nun who was shocking in many aspects, he even managed a wisecrack. That was significant progress!

[Honkai Resistance finally leveled up. Even if I contract Honkai Infection, I can survive much longer now. The simulation count resets after midnight. This time, I'm sure I can get a better enhancement!]

Gao Qi patted his recently toned and stronger body, looking quite satisfied.

For the sake of his own life, he put in extra effort outside the system as well.

However, just as Gao Qi was rejoicing in his progress, a soft female voice sounded behind him.

"Um... are you alright? It looked like you were having a nightmare. It's so late, shouldn't you be resting?"

Startled, Gao Qi turned around to see a young woman with golden hair and blue eyes, wearing black workout clothes, walking into the gym holding a water bottle.

Looking at her waist-length golden hair tied into a high ponytail, her fit and curvaceous figure, and her smooth skin, Gao Qi was momentarily stunned, then nodded and greeted her.

"Aren't you working hard too, Miss Durandal? Effort always pays off, right?"

Durandal, Schicksal's strongest S-rank Valkyrja, the role model and goal for countless Valkyries, the ace against the Honkai. Many of her young fans even call her "Lady Durandal"; she's practically an idol.

However, Durandal, or rather, Miss Bianka Ataegina, is down-to-earth, approachable, and far from arrogant—a true hard worker.

She often came to the gym when it wasn't crowded, usually around the same time as Gao Qi. While they weren't close friends, they were nodding acquaintances who worked out at the same time.

"Mmm, that's true. Effort is never wrong. But I do give myself breaks occasionally. Remember to balance work and rest. I hope you made some gains today."

They didn't chat much. Durandal smiled naturally and quickly walked towards the Valkyrie training room not far away. Their training intensity was far beyond that of ordinary people.

Watching Durandal leave, Gao Qi also stood up and headed towards his dorm room, feeling pleased.

He might be weak now, but like Durandal, his efforts were destined to yield returns.

And since he was here, besides saving his own skin, if he had the capacity, why not try to change some of the established tragedies?

"How does that saying go? 'Fight for all that is beautiful in the world?'"

Entering his single dorm room, Gao Qi finished his washing up and lay down on the bed.

Just waiting for the clock to strike midnight—

[Simulator count has been reset. Simulation Starting—]

[Simulation Time: Approximately 50,000 years ago.]

[Simulation Location: Shenzhou]

"Shenzhou? Isn't this—"

[Simulation Begins.]
