Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Fastest Man! The Flash!

(Bonus chapter)

It must be said, Boeing truly had something special.

Just a company name alone completely destroyed all the skepticism and conspiracy theories in Ian's mind. Globally, few companies probably possessed such brand power.

Their deeply ingrained brand image was something even superheroes had grown accustomed to. Even with Ian's knowledge, he couldn't help but feel emotional: this company truly took great pains for the sake of the superheroes' performance!

"Rumble! Rumble!"

The right wing of the Boeing 747 spewed flames ten meters long, and metal fragments scattered like fireworks. Inside the cabin, the screams of desperate passengers almost drowned out the plane's alarms.

"Hold tight!"

Kara accelerated.

Her flight path was extremely sharp.

Ian, on her back, quickly held onto her neck. The two of them swooped down like silver shooting stars, approaching the underside of the plane just as it was about to crash into the wilderness.

The fuselage was heavily tilted; through the portholes, one could see the terrified faces of the passengers. She adjusted her angle, flew beneath the plane, and used both hands raised high to firmly support the belly of the aircraft.

"Whoosh~"

Kara's bio-field wrapped around the three-hundred-ton steel behemoth like an invisible water membrane, gradually changing the direction of the plane's nose along its descent path.

She was clearly highly experienced in rescuing this model of aircraft. Holding the plane, carrying Ian, she slowly adjusted her posture, and finally landed smoothly on the ground.

"Thud!"

Kara's feet sank deep into the asphalt, and cracks spread out like a spiderweb from where she stood. However, the force was not transmitted to the plane, and no one was even jolted out of their seats on the stabilized aircraft.

This was probably a sight most physicists would spend a lifetime trying to understand.

"Tsk tsk, Homelander's fantasy of himself." Ian exclaimed with unconcealed envy. As the evacuation slides inflated and deployed, the shell-shocked passengers stumbled and crawled out of the cabin door.

Having successfully resolved the crisis.

Kara, in a great mood, stood with her hands on her hips, catching her breath.

Her clothing had changed into her battlesuit at some point.

One-second costume change.

This was a mandatory course for many superheroes.

"It's Supergirl!" A little boy wearing a baseball cap was the first to recognize Kara, excitedly tugging on his mother's hand. "Mom, Supergirl saved us!"

"Oh God, thank you. Thank you for sending your messenger to save us." An elderly Christian woman knelt on the ground, making the sign of the cross and thanking her faith.

"I swear I'll never complain about my mom's cooking again. I'll eat anything, as long as I live!" A woman in her early twenties burst into tears after surviving the ordeal.

A weak wave of laughter erupted from the crowd.

Just then.

A woman with wine-red hair and a beige trench coat in the crowd also calmed herself down. Compared to the others who were grateful and relieved, her journalistic instinct made her want to seize this firsthand news.

"My name is Iris West, a reporter for the Central City Citizen newspaper. Supergirl, thank you so much for lending a hand. Without your help, we would all..."

Reporter Iris was recording with her phone. Her voice was excited, but she stopped short of saying anything bad, perhaps still too shaken to think about such a possibility.

"You're welcome, Ms. West. It's my job, isn't it? As long as everyone is safe, that's all that matters." Kara's reply was official; she was highly experienced in handling such interviews.

"This is very close to Metropolis. Are you currently assisting Superman? I heard he was having some issues. Could you possibly debunk or confirm this to the public?"

Iris knew exactly what kind of news she needed. After yesterday's plane crash, there was a lot of discussion in Metropolis and online about why Superman had failed to intercept it.

"Regarding that, I think his own response later will be more persuasive than mine." Kara's heart tightened when she heard Iris's question.

But she kept a perfect poker face and gave a flawless answer. She was no novice; Kara had also received training related to interviews.

"Thank you."

Reporter Iris, being the Caucasian Iris, had a strong sense of propriety and did not continue to press her savior. She looked towards the other passengers and then changed the topic.

"I noticed you seemed to be escorting a criminal just now?" Reporter Iris already had a draft in her mind. Now she just needed to clarify Supergirl's routine as a vigilante.

Readers loved this, just like fans loved to peek into the lives of their idols.

"Escorting a criminal?"

Kara, still somewhat shocked that something might truly be wrong with Superman, was momentarily stunned when she heard Reporter Iris's second question.

"Hiss!"

Kara looked at her side suddenly, as if she had just remembered something, and was horrified. Finding that Ian, whom she had put down during her costume change, had disappeared, she quickly turned to look behind her in alarm.

She saw.

Ian had jumped off Kara's back at some point and was now surrounded by a few bold passengers posing for photos. Worse, the guy had a translucent, flesh-colored stocking pulled over his head!

And it was one where holes were poked for his eyes and mouth!

He looked exactly like a veteran criminal!

Kara felt her temples throbbing. She quickly sprinted to Ian, who was charging for photos, ignored the passengers' praises, grabbed Ian in a panic, and shot up into the sky.

She acted as if she was afraid that if she waited one more second.

Ian would cause another disaster.

The other passengers hadn't even reacted yet.

"Click click click~"

Reporter Iris pulled out her camera and aimed it at the sky, snapping furiously, the shutter practically smoking. After all, every single one of those first-hand photos could be converted into Franklins.

"Whoosh~"

Just at this moment.

A bolt of lightning suddenly streaked from the distance, causing gasps and panic among many passengers. A man clad in a costume interwoven with gold and red colors stopped in front of everyone.

His face was covered by a metal mask, leaving only a small mouth visible.

"The Flash! It's The Flash!"

A passenger shouted in pleasant surprise and pulled out their phone. Especially one young girl, who had originally been planning to live-stream but was disappointed when Supergirl left.

She hadn't expected to film another superhero.

"Oh! My God! Friends, look, it's The Flash! My luck is so good today!" The girl wanted to gain followers through the live stream, but her fans were slightly unimpressed.

The comments were full of accusations like [Stop neglecting your duties, streamer].

"Is everyone... alright?" The Flash looked around, his gaze locking onto his childhood friend, but he slightly concealed it to protect his identity.

"The Flash! Did you come to Metropolis too?"

Iris clearly hadn't been informed by her boyfriend, Barry Allen. She quickly aimed her camera at The Flash, starting another round of frantic shutter clicks to earn money.

"Uh..."

Barry Allen really wanted to say he received Iris's "farewell" call and rushed here, abandoning a major fight. However, looking around, he couldn't reveal his emotions.

"Yes, that's right. You know, superheroes have regular gatherings. I was just about to..." Barry Allen was quite talkative, but just as he was being vague.

"Hiss~"

A severe wave of weakness suddenly hit him.

This caused his sentence to stop abruptly.

He couldn't help but drop to one knee on the ground.

"What's wrong?" Iris quickly walked forward and helped The Flash up. Although she didn't know The Flash's identity, she was already well acquainted with him.

This old friend had contributed quite a bit to the BMW Mini she had just bought this year.

"It's nothing... just..."

Feeling the weakness in his body.

Barry Allen originally wanted to brush it off, but he noticed his Speed Force was also weakening, which made him panic. He quickly removed a section of his armor on his arm.

"Savitar... what did he do to me?"

It was revealed.

There was a nasty wound on Barry Allen's arm.

It was from a recent battle.

It was now glowing with a faint blue sheen. If Superman were here, he would definitely recognize the shape of this wound.

Except for the color.

It was identical to the wound on Superman's arm!
