Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 The Arrival of the Red Viper

Gendry dismounted his horse and picked up his blood-stained mace.

"A mace is still effective! As long as you have the strength, blunt weapons are incredibly lethal on the battlefield. It would be even better if I had one made of Valyrian steel!" Gendry wiped the blood from his mace on the jester's colorful robes; there were no living people in his vicinity, only corpses.

the black goat banner was torn to shreds, and members of the Brave Companions lay scattered on the ground. These butchers, criminals, and scum ultimately became corpses on the bloody battlefield. The Knights of the Wolf Pack Company rode back and forth, their warhorses trampling, Longspears and Morningstars whistling as they reaped, felling the Brave Companions and some reckless Free Knights.

The war was largely over, with only the Longspear shield wall slowly pressing down, completely encircling the Unsullied. Of the twenty Unsullied, only fifteen remained. They were like a small boat in an ocean of war, yet they had no intention of retreating.

Longspear led the Knights of the Wolf Pack Company to Gendry's side. They reined in their horses, looking at the Commander-in-Chief's figure. A Commander-in-Chief needed age and experience, but more importantly, strength. Northerners worshipped the strong.

"We won, Commander-in-Chief! Besides the Commander-in-Chief from Myr, who left early with a portion of his rear guard, everyone else was devoured by us," Longspear told him. The spikes on Longspear's helmet had fallen off, but fortunately, he was unharmed. The Knights looked at the encircled Unsullied, eager for battle.

Steel Fist also led the infantry and the Free Army, sweeping the battlefield, cleaning up the aftermath, and disarming the surrendered Free Mercenaries. All usable money, armor, and weapons from the Brave Companions Mercenaries were stripped off; these could not be wasted.

"Thump! Thump!" Only a circular shield wall remained, completely surrounding the Unsullied, waiting for a single command. Under the Commander-in-Chief's order, they would completely kill the Unsullied.

"Let them go!" Gendry said.

"Commander-in-Chief! The Unsullied fight to the death and never surrender!" Steel Fist hesitated and asked, "If we let them go, they could be a menace."

"Let them go, they are also unwilling slaves!" Gendry said. "If we open a path and these Unsullied still attack us, then I won't be so polite!"

"Yes!" The shield wall slowly broke apart, and the Free Army surrounding the Unsullied parted, creating a path. The remaining fifteen Unsullied were bewildered, holding only their shields and Longspears. They had been attacked many times, showing blood, disarray, sweat, and despair. However, the Unsullied were pain-tolerant; they had no fatal wounds, and they could all endure it.

"Freedom! You are also free!" Gendry shouted to the Unsullied. "The Commander-in-Chief of Myr has fled, and the Brave Companions have been completely annihilated. You can choose to fight us to the death, or you can choose to retreat back to Myr."

"Freedom!" "Freedom!" The Unsullied leader, who had two spikes on his head, froze for a moment, then walked towards Gendry with his black shield and Longspear. The Unsullied leader put down his shield and Longspear, then knelt before Gendry.

The first Unsullied shouted this, and then the remaining Unsullied also shouted in succession, kneeling before Gendry. Freedom was the most perfect and beautiful word they had ever heard in their lives.

Gendry accepted the Unsullied's fealty and then embraced the Unsullied leader. "Comrade, from now on, you can have your own names." Gendry allowed them to elect their own officers within the army and abolished the rule of randomly using a new name every day.

"Cut off the heads of the Brave Companions and impale them on Longspears!" Gendry issued his second command. The Brave Companions were all annihilated, but these scumbags still deserved severe punishment.

The Knights of the Wolf Pack Company all rose, and the newly joined Unsullied also joined in. They found a new home for the dead heads of the Brave Companions. Vargo Hoat, who enjoyed chopping off people's arms; Urter, the monk who enjoyed abusing children; the Jester, who enjoyed killing people, and so on. The heads of these scumbags were impaled on long poles, exposed to the whistling wind, and perhaps later, the greetings of crows.

The Free Mercenaries surrendered one after another, and Gendry's gaze swept across the battlefield. Those Mercenaries who had lost the war dared not even look up at him.

"You have a few choices. You can surrender to me, but you must obey the Wolf Pack's military discipline. Second, you can leave here, discarding your armor and weapons, and paying a ransom!" Gendry commanded.

The Mercenaries remained in place, pondering, but no matter what, they dared not disobey Gendry's orders.

"Victory is sweet, but it would be even better if we could be more perfect!" Gendry thought as he looked at the messy battlefield. "If I had more Longbowmen, more Knights, and a stronger assault team, I would have completely annihilated this Myr army."

...The Myr encirclement operation ended in a crushing defeat. The Brave Companions, hired with heavy gold, fell into an ambush and were completely annihilated. Only the Commander-in-Chief returned with the remaining defeated soldiers.

The Myrish people were deeply gripped by a panic, and the Archons considered larger-scale attacks.

Now, the Wolf Pack Company and the Free Army had occupied a corner of the Disputed Lands. Centered around Firegrass Manor, the Wolf Pack Company had taken control of a considerable amount of land and coastline. In addition to the manor slaves, many escaped slaves who had previously fled deep into the Disputed Lands also sought refuge with the Wolf Pack Company.

Gendry stood on the Narrow Sea coast. In the distance was his homeland, Westeros. It was the great hand of fate that had placed him here.

Grey Wolf followed Gendry, protecting his safety. Grey Wolf was the leader of the surviving Unsullied. Grey Wolf explained the origin of his name: "My name at birth was cursed, so I was forced into slavery. But Grey Wolf is a good name I thought of on the day I was freed by the liberator."

"Your Grace, there are two pieces of news you might be interested in!" The elderly Maester Qyburn came forward and said.

"I hope it's pleasant news!"

"The first is a collaboration. The Commander of the Cat's Company wants to cooperate with us to attack and plunder Myr."

"Bloodbeard?" Gendry thought of this man. "Our army doesn't accept trash, and this man's reputation is simply too foul. Bandit Mercenaries are also very difficult to manage." Bandit Mercenaries merely wanted to burn, kill, and loot, but Gendry's intentions were different; he wanted to possess this land. Moreover, he himself was an image of the liberator of slaves; there were many escaped slaves he could use, so there was no need to associate with a notorious bandit like Bloodbeard.

Bloodbeard was a loud, barbaric brute, tall and heavily built, with a large beard, fiery red sideburns, and long braids. His shoulders were broad and strong. He was inherently cruel and bloodthirsty, greedy for glory and treasure, and lustful.

"However, simply refusing Bloodbeard might anger this fool. Let's contact the Windblown! Coincidentally, the Windblown have a grudge against them."

"There is also a very distinguished guest whom you may need to meet in person!" Maester Qyburn's expression was peculiar.

"Who?" Gendry asked.

"The Red Viper, Prince Oberyn of Dorne!"
