Chapter 59 - Chapter 59 The Conquerors of Myr

Vast skies, blue waters, beautiful white cities, and the gates of Myr wide open.

On the sea, countless warships, though of varying sizes, had blockaded the coast of Myr.

Gray and white banners fluttered, and all the clamor quieted down as the jubilant Knights stepped into the city.

Steel Fist had already led some Free Army soldiers into Myr to maintain order, along with the Second Sons led by Brown Ben.

Gendry, riding a Dornish steed, looked at the lovely city.

Myr, the artisan city among the Three Daughters.

Behind Gendry were five hundred of the most elite Wolf Pack Knights, their soldiers uniformly clad in black plate armor, like a black iron forest.

Next were the Knights of the Spear Company, whose equipment and morale were inferior to the Wolf Pack cavalry.

Following them were the Wolf Pack and Free Army infantry.

"Long live freedom! Long live the Commander-in-Chief!" The slaves shouted loudly, welcoming the liberator, their figures filling the streets of Myr.

However, few of Myr's nobles and Myrish Magisters came to greet them; some fled for their lives, others hid.

In Myr, the ratio of slaves to Free Folk was roughly between one to three and one to four.

No matter how one looked at it, the slave population was in the majority.

"Do not damage those beautiful workshops and docks; that would be a waste.

I hope not to hear of any looting or rape during the chaos!" Gendry said to Longspear beside him.

"Yes, Commander-in-Chief!" Longspear took the order and left with some Free Army soldiers.

During the days Myr was under siege, order collapsed, and there were indeed incidents of banditry, robbery, and murder.

Many of the exiled Mercenaries and rioting slaves were extremely vicious.

However, with the army's entry into the city, order was quickly restored, and those who sought to profit from the chaos were swiftly purged.

Maintaining order was paramount; military discipline among soldiers in this era was often hard to describe.

Even Tywin and the Northern Lords had poor military discipline, with Tywin enjoying letting his hounds ravage enemy lands.

Two famous generals, Stannis and Randal Tarly, were known for their stricter demands on soldier discipline.

Order was handled by Steel Fist, intelligence by Maester Qyburn, wealth inventory by The Handsome Man, and fleet control by Captain Harris; this was a well-trained division of labor.

"My army, my steel! They must be disciplined and resolute!" Gendry thought.

The Wolf Pack's military discipline was good, and establishing discipline among the Free Army, who came from the oppressed lower classes, was much easier than with those rogue Mercenaries.

"Brown Ben, your leadership of the Second Sons, enduring humiliation and hardship, has been no small feat!" Gendry said admiringly to Brown Ben, who was kneeling.

The Second Sons had sided with the Myrish Magisters, then, at a critical moment, opened the city defenses, allowing the Wolf Pack to enter the city.

"I am a loyal subordinate of the Commander-in-Chief; I dare not claim credit!" Brown Ben was terrified.

In the face of such overwhelming power, the five hundred-plus flip-flopping Second Sons Mercenaries were no match.

Before absolute strength, schemes or calculations were insignificant.

"You have done very well.

I hope you will continue to participate in the work of defending Myr; you understand the old Myrish nobles!"

"Yes!" Brown Ben felt as if his spine had been touched by the icy fingers of an Other.

Maintaining order in Myr and eradicating the old noble forces was an unpopular job.

But he had already completely offended the Myrish, and now he could only go all the way.

"Enter the city!" Gendry raised his horsewhip.

Myr was the first city he had conquered.

Entering the city did not mean complete victory; those Myrish nobles intending to restore their power were still lurking in the shadows.

The reality was that Myr was already fragmented; many of the old Myrish Magisters had fled, and Myr's government was like fallen leaves scattered by the autumn wind.

With the flight of Myr's exiled nobles, there were also many vacant residences and estates in the city of Myr.

Gendry set up the Wolf Pack Company's headquarters in the Myrish Magisters' mansion, a beautiful white estate.

In the Myrish Magisters' beautiful council hall, Gendry was discussing Myr's management strategy with the white-haired Maester Qyburn.

Myr was the first major city Gendry controlled, and Myr's management order would later be extended to other cities.

"Conquering Myr is just the first step; the key is long-term rule of Myr," Gendry told Maester Qyburn.

"Brief conquest is meaningless; lasting conquest is true rule!" The white-haired Maester Qyburn fell into a reverie.

The Three Daughters had all been conquered after the Century of Blood, but they had all regained their independence.

Lys and the Myrish had been ruled by Volantis for two generations, and in more recent times, Tyrosh had been ruled by Aquos the Silver Tongue for seven or eight years during the War of the Ninepenny Kings.

"Destruction brings new life.

Since peace cannot be achieved by accommodating the Myrish Magisters, it is better to create a new order.

Rely on freed slaves, commoners, and strike at slave traders and the Myrish Magisters!" This was the world Gendry envisioned.

After abolishing slavery, many people naturally joined his cause.

"My greatest concern is the changing international situation," Maester Qyburn said.

"Whenever a power tried to occupy the Three Daughters, other powers always opposed it.

Braavos, Pentos, and even the Stormlands opposed Volantis's expansion back then.

And as we overthrow slavery, our most feared adversary is Volantis, with Tyrosh and Lys being very close."

"Prepare for war while restoring Myr's vitality," Gendry stated his plan.

"I want to reorganize Myr's power structure, eliminate the Myrish Magisters' council, increase the power of the council, and include escaped slaves, Myrish artisans, and completely subservient merchants within it.

Myr will have no Myrish Magisters; I will serve as the temporary Regent ruling Myr!"

"Regent!" Maester Qyburn pondered.

"That name isn't bad; its meaning is clear at first listen!"

Gendry's plan was for a Regency, with coronation to follow; without defeating Lys and Tyrosh, difficulties still remained.

"A massive haul! Commander-in-Chief!" As the two discussed, Harris, the Wolf Pack's naval Commander-in-Chief, walked in, happily saying, "One hundred and forty of Myr's fleet are still in the harbor; they are now ours.

Only seventy ships were taken by the fleeing Myrish Magisters!"

"So, we are a dominant force in the Narrow Sea!" Gendry said.

"Yes, Commander-in-Chief! Our warships combined are a considerable force!" Harris explained.

"Westeros's restored Iron Fleet has about a hundred ships, and with the Ironborn being a warrior people, gathering more warships is not an issue.

The Redwyne Fleet has two hundred ships, and the Royal Fleet has about two hundred and ten."

Myr's fleet of one hundred and forty large ships, plus two hundred assorted smaller warships from the Stepstones, not to mention Myr's even more numerous transport ships, cargo ships, and merchant ships.

In terms of naval power, the Wolf Pack's maritime strength greatly increased.
