Liam couldn't stop thinking about Blake. Every time he tried to focus on his homework or the book he was reading, Blake's smile, his laugh, the way he looked at him kept popping into his mind.
He knew it was a crush—but he kept brushing it off. "No, Liam. It's nothing. Just… college. People are nice sometimes. That's all."
Shaking his head, he decided to distract himself with something simple: snacks and a movie. On the way back to Maple Hall, he stopped at a small grocery store, picking out a bag of popcorn, some gummy candies, and a few chocolate bars—the perfect movie companions.
Once back in his room, he unpacked the snacks and finally texted Gary back, explaining the party: nothing dramatic happened, he'd had a few sips of beer, and, yes, he survived. Gary's replies were dramatic as usual, but Liam smiled at his friend's excitement.
Night fell. Liam felt his eyelids grow heavy and decided to get cozy. He took a long, hot shower, letting the water wash away the day's nerves and stress. Stepping out, he put on his favorite soft pyjama set—the one with stars and moons that made him feel safe—and curled up on his bed with a blanket, snacks by his side.
He started the movie and felt the calm of the night settle around him. The campus outside was quiet. The hum of distant traffic and muffled laughter from other dorms lulled him into a relaxed state.
It was past midnight when his phone buzzed. The screen lit up with an unknown number. His heart skipped a beat.
Could it be…?
He hesitated, thumb hovering over the answer button. Curiosity won over nerves.
"Hello?" he whispered, trying to sound casual.
"Liam?" The voice was slightly slurred, low and familiar. "It's me… Blake."
Liam froze, heat rushing to his cheeks. "Blake? Uh… hi…"
"I, uh…" Blake's voice trailed, clearly a little drunk. "Can I… come over? We could, like… watch the movie together? I don't wanna be alone, and I figured… you're already… cozy?"
Liam's mind raced. His heart hammered so fast he was sure Blake could hear it over the phone. Panic, excitement, and nervousness collided in his chest.
"Uh… s-sure," he stammered. "Yeah… come over."
"Cool. Thanks, Liam," Blake slurred softly. "See you in a few."
Liam hung up, staring at the phone. His fingers were shaking. He tucked himself deeper into his blanket, trying to calm his racing heart.
Blake is coming to my room… Blake is coming to my room…
The words repeated in his head like a mantra. He was nervous, yes—but a small, thrilling part of him couldn't wait.
Tonight, his first real crush might just cross the threshold of his dorm door.
And Liam… wasn't sure he was ready. But he was definitely curious.
