After Lulu left, the room fell into a heavy silence. Han Soi didn't move. He took Yue Yue's small, pale hands in his and brought them to his lips, kissing the back of each one.
"Yue Yue, you will always be my most cherished female," he whispered against her skin, his voice thick with emotion.
"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. As long as I am alive, nothing will happen to you. I will protect you with my soul."
Yue Yue's eyes widened. She knew why she was worried...the Temple was a scary place because of that priest she didn't understand, but she couldn't figure out why Han Soi looked so devastated.
His face was strained, and deep lines of worry were etched between his brows. He looked like he was carrying the weight of the entire world on his shoulders.
She realized then that she hated seeing him like this. He was her pillar, her fierce Black Serpent, but right now, he just looked like a man terrified of losing his heart.
