• Scars: Scars are marks resembling tattoos that appear as a result of the experiences a person goes through—battles, wounds, pain, personal emotions, and psychology. Everything a person experiences contributes to what is called a scar.
• Rite: The rite acts as the phase that separates the manifestation of the scar on a person. They must overcome a trial for the scar to form on them, the most famous being the Trial of Pain.
• Scar Energy: This is energy that the scar bearer draws from the living scar itself. It only works as a container to release it into reality to take a physical form. The scar bearer cannot feel, shape, or control the scar energy while it is in its ethereal state—only when it takes form, though there are rare exceptions.

This link connects the sensory state of both the scar bearer and the living scar. It is more spiritual than physical, and it is the only thing the scar bearer can influence to make the scar grant them scar energy.

The phase is the progression of the scar to another stage. Its shape changes, the power it can grant changes, and the density of scar energy also changes. Except in rare cases, normal scars do not have phases—only living scars, again except in some rare cases.

Living scars are scars that have their own consciousness, their own domain, and influence in the scar world. The bearer of a living scar acts as its container. Living scars choose their bearer due to the Sympathetic Link between them and because they need nourishment from them in exchange for granting scar energy to utilize their power and activate their phases.

Doses are fuel for the scars to maintain their power and ensure their survival. In the case of living scars, if the bearer fails to provide the living scar with doses for nourishment, it will begin feeding on them—both physically and spiritually, consuming their flesh, blood, and negative and positive emotions.
