Chapter 7 - Wishful Thinking

His aura filled the entire carriage making it so that Narlie was unable to use her wolf power to escape.

The truth is that, no matter how powerful an Alpha is, unless he suppresses a Luna's power completely he wouldn't be able to stop that Luna from escaping which is why he suppressed her with his aura for the time being.

"You are my wife Narlie so do not listen to gossip."

Narlie chuckled softly, not ever going to believe him…

"Wife? And yet you married Mabel…tsk, tsk." She looked away, almost enraged that she wasn't the only one.

Damien turned towards the window, leaning lazily against it. "You know–" he said coldly. "When the rumours started, I was sceptical at first, wondering if anyone had seen me bare my fangs at the innocent or if I display visible devilish horns to their views."

Damien looked away from the window and those mirror-like eyes gazed into the depth of her soul, almost in a see-through manner as he said.

"But they weren't wrong though…"

His smile turned chilling, almost menacing, causing Narlie to take in a sharp breath. In that moment, Narlie realised that the man she was supposed to confide in is a monster. How can she compare her father's beating and maltreatment to bondage? This one now is actually the real bondage in and of itself. Her life would be ruined with this man by her side, her life restricted… but— something was already very wrong with her heart.

He had said that he wanted to rescue her from the bondage she faced in her father's house…

He had even said that he knew when she awakened her wolf power… which suggests that he already had eyes on her for a very long time.

Her heart pounded, betraying her current feeling.

'That was freaking weird.'

Narlie did not really want to make assumptions yet, who knows…even if other slave ladies suffer, she might not be on the receiving end…

However Narlie knew that this was merely wishful thinking.

Damien did not speak to her and Narlie did not ask any questions… minding her own business at this point in time until they reached the Imperial palace and the carriage immediately screeched to a halt after the horses were forcefully pulled on the throat.

Narlie's body jerked forward out of her own control… she had almost rammed her forehead into the metallic board that separated them from the coachman if not that Damien had reacted very fast.

Narlie's body tensed suddenly, feeling those large and warm hands hold her firmly like it swore an oath to protect her…

But the next minute, his expression was almost like they didn't care at all, and an intense pain stabbed into her heart. She felt wronged that her own husband didn't regard her as really worth saving…instead, he looked at her as someone who can only be good in… bed, house chores and garden. Nothing precious.

The more Narlie had these frivolous thoughts, the angrier she became. And then begrudgingly, she pushed his arm away from her and made gestures to the bodyguards outside to open the door.

These men didn't respond at first until they saw Damien giving them a curt nod of approval.

Narlie stepped down…

The truth is that Damien did not really need to even suppress her because from the beginning, she had no intention of ever escaping. She crossed both arms over her chest as she waited for Damien to step down.

He did.

And they both walked towards the entrance pavement of the Imperial palace.
