Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: I Want to Study, But the System Won’t Let Me

Shopping complete, Professor McGonagall led Charlie out of Diagon Alley.

"This is your ticket," she said, handing him a crimson slip of parchment.

"September 1st. King's Cross Station. Platform Nine and Three-Quarters."

Charlie squinted at the numbers.

"Professor... why does the platform have a decimal?"

McGonagall simply gave him a mysterious smile.

"You'll understand when the time comes."

Damn it. Riddles? Get out of Hogwarts!

On the way back to the orphanage, Charlie discreetly opened his system interface while McGonagall wasn't looking.

[Tyrant King System]

[Host: Charlie White]

[Magical Talent (Hidden)]

[Tyrant Points: 8]

[Current Draws: 0 (One draw per 10 points)]

Performing acts befitting of a "Tyrant Ruler" earns Tyrant Points, which can be spent on lottery draws.

Each draw may yield Talent Points, Spell Proficiency, and other rewards.

Charlie pondered for a moment.

Murdering innocents? Hell no. If I kill someone, Dumbledore's probably got a grave already dug for me, doesn't matter whose.

And i was raised properly, how could I ever do something like that?

Lavish spending? That's doable... but I'm broke right now.

Just as he was thinking, they arrived at the orphanage.

McGonagall stopped at the gate and turned toward him with a gentle but serious tone.

"Mr. White, you have great potential. Don't waste it. Be sure to study your textbooks before school starts."

Charlie nodded solemnly.

"I will, Professor."

Though honestly, why do all teachers say the exact same thing?

McGonagall smiled in satisfaction and left.

The moment she vanished from view, Charlie bolted up the stairs, tossed all his things onto the bed, and flopped down with a deep sigh.

"Preview the textbooks? No thanks. Time to relax!"

[Congratulations, Your Majesty! Tyrant Behavior Detected: Neglecting Duties. +1 Tyrant Point]

"Ha! I knew it would work!"

Charlie jumped up, delighted.

A few minutes later, the system chimed again:

[Congratulations, Your Majesty! Tyrant Behavior Detected: Neglecting Duties. +1 Tyrant Point]

[Tyrant Points: 10 – One draw available]

"Draw!" Charlie shouted, unable to contain his excitement.

[Congratulations, Your Majesty! You've obtained a new spell: Blazing Fire]

[Blazing Fire (Level 1): 0/100 Proficiency]

"How do I level up spells?" Charlie asked.

[Replying to His Majesty: You may increase proficiency by either practicing or drawing rewards. Once maxed, the spell levels up automatically.]

[Each spell has five levels.]

Charlie picked up his wand.

"Blazing Fire."

At once, a small flame flickered from the wand's tip. It danced in the air, orange and red, casting a warm, gentle glow.

Charlie's eyes lit up in awe.

Just like every RPG wizard, everything starts with a fire spell.

The flame grew with his excitement, flickering dangerously close to his bedspread.

Charlie quickly waved the wand to extinguish it.

"Phew..."

He wiped the sweat from his brow.

If he accidentally lit the bed on fire and Granny White found out, he'd be tasting bamboo stick stew for dinner.

He practiced a few more times, this time carefully controlling the size of the flame to avoid setting the room ablaze. After about half an hour:

[Blazing Fire (Level 1): 1/100]

"Forget it. I'm done."

He tossed the wand aside and collapsed back onto the bed.

"Too tiring."

[Congratulations, Your Majesty! Tyrant Behavior Detected: Laziness and Neglect. +2 Tyrant Points]

Charlie grinned.

Now that's a system that understands me.

This is how magic is meant to be used!

He rolled over and stared at the ceiling.

The thrill of becoming a real wizard still coursed through his veins.

Charlie closed his eyes, system chimes still ringing faintly in his ears, and drifted into a peaceful sleep.

The next month, Charlie completely let himself go.

Sleeping all day, roaming all night.

Tyrant Points soared like rockets.

"Charlie, don't you think you should be reviewing those spellbooks?"

Granny White finally asked one day, unable to hold it in.

Charlie was in the yard, playing with the younger kids at the orphanage.

"No worries, Granny," he said with a bright smile. "I'll study when school starts."

"I just want to spend more time with everyone. Once I leave, I won't have much time to visit."

[His Majesty deceives even the elderly. Tyrant Behavior Detected: Heartless Manipulation. +3 Tyrant Points]

Hey! System, what the hell?!

Granny White, meanwhile, smiled warmly.

Charlie had always been a thoughtful boy. Even as a wizard, he still remembered them.

What more could she say?

Every night, Charlie took Storm out for a walk.

The eagle-owl was massive and majestic. Every appearance caused people to stop and stare.

Storm seemed to enjoy the attention too, he'd spread his enormous wings and let out proud cries that scared off every curious cat and dog nearby.

By the end of the month, Charlie's Tyrant Points had skyrocketed to an astonishing 910, which he'd spent on 91 draws.

He gained proficiency in most of the basic spells, Levitation Charm, Reparo, Alohomora, and others.

Though Talent Points were rare, he only pulled three in total, and all were added to Transfiguration.

Now his status panel looked very different:

[His Majesty: Charlie White]

[Age: 11]

[Magical Talent Rating (Max 10):]

Transfiguration: 9

Charms: 8

Potions: 6

Defense Against the Dark Arts: 7

Herbology: 4

Astronomy: 4

History of Magic: 5

[Tyrant Points: 9]

[Spells Mastered:]

Transfiguration (Lv. 1 – 90/100)

Blazing Fire (Lv. 2 – 360/500)

Crystal Clear (Lv. 2 – 160/500)

Levitation Charm (Lv. 2 – 180/500)

Reparo (Lv. 2 – 210/500)

Alohomora…

After a month of experimenting, Charlie noticed something important:

The higher the Talent stat, the easier the spell was to cast, and the stronger its effects.

Even though his Transfiguration was still Level 1, the stat was already at Level 9.

Now he could casually transfigure objects with ease.

He'd even used it to trick some of the younger kids, pretending it was "magic tricks."

Time flew by, and soon, it was September 1st.

Charlie woke up early and packed his bags.

For once, despite his usual laziness, he was genuinely excited about going to Hogwarts.

"Granny, I'm leaving."

Charlie hugged Granny White tightly.

Her eyes were red as she pressed a small bundle into his hands.

"There's some biscuits I made in here," she said. "Eat them on the road if you get hungry."

"I'll miss you, Granny." Charlie squeezed her tighter.

"I'll write to you."

Granny White patted his back gently.

"Off you go now. Study hard. Listen to your teachers."

Charlie nodded.

Dragging his suitcase and carrying Storm on his arm, he set off for King's Cross Station.
