Chapter 114 - Battling a High-Tier Legend — Mewtwo!

The Entire World Doubts Him!

[Lance]: Red… wants to seek out that legendary god? He probably can't win, right?

[Leon]: Extremely difficult. Ash's Charizard only held off Reshiram because Reshiram wasn't using its full power—and it was mindless while being controlled.

[Alder]: Red's Charizard feels about the same level as Ash's at his peak back then. If the Cerulean Cave truly houses a high-tier legend, this looks grim.

[Diantha]: Blue was beaten into that state, after all… though—being crushed by his own Blastoise—why do I suddenly want to laugh?

[Flint]: Sorry, I'm laughing too.

If Blue had been beaten senseless in a straightforward battle,

No Champion here would dare laugh.

But being flattened because he got pinned by his own Blastoise…

That visual was simply too strong.

[Professor Oak]: Red should be fine. His goal is reconnaissance, not capture. If he retreats, that Pokémon shouldn't be able to stop him.

[Cynthia]: Agreed. Red may not defeat a high-tier legend yet, but escaping? Even a god can't easily keep him.

This was the true strength of humanity's apex Trainers.

Even if a divine beast could defeat them—

It could not contain them.

In theory, if Blue had chosen to retreat earlier, that god could not have held him either.

Blue had simply been… greedy.

Thus, consensus was reached.

Even Red, legendary as he was, stood no chance against a supreme god.

At best, he could gather information—and perhaps later join forces with Blue.

Only then might there be the faintest possibility.

Within the projection—

After Red accepted Professor Oak's request,

Blue suddenly forced himself upright.

The movement tugged at his wounds, pain flashing across his face—

Yet he ignored it entirely and shouted at Red.

"Don't go, Red!"

"…What?"

"That thing is too strong! Even I couldn't resist it—you won't either!

Do you want to end up like me?!"

He cared far too much. (strike that)

Blue didn't want Red to suffer the same fate.

But—

"Relax," Red replied calmly, adjusting his cap.

"I won't end up like you."

"After all… I'm the one who beat you."

He turned and walked out, his voice lingering in the room.

"And besides—I'm the current League Champion.

If even I don't go… then who will?"

Those words sparked fierce discussion.

"Red is legendary for a reason."

"Not just strength—he has integrity, kindness, and responsibility."

"This must be what the Heavenly Ranking wanted to show us."

"Facing an unbeatable enemy, he still steps forward to protect Cerulean City."

"That's what elevates the word legend."

"Maybe… imperfection is what truly makes a legend."

Admiration swelled—

along with quiet sorrow.

Red had reached the summit, only for a greater shadow to emerge.

Against a high-tier legend, defeat felt inevitable.

Perhaps this was how legends ended.

Within the projection—

Red didn't rush straight to Cerulean Cave.

He stopped at home, fishing quietly.

Oak had told him to prepare.

And Blue's words—

They felt familiar.

"Too strong… impossible to defeat…"

Suddenly—

"That's it!"

Red recalled a journal he'd once read in the Pokémon Mansion—

a record describing a new species.

He hurried back to Oak's lab and recounted it.

"—In Guyana, South America, we discovered a new Pokémon species.

We obtained an eyelash and analyzed its genes.

Because its genetic structure was boundless—like a dream—

We named it… Mew."

Mew…

That name was well-known in this world's myths.

Yet in Red's world, it had been discovered.

Red continued.

"After two months… we created Mew's child from that eyelash.

We named it… Mewtwo."

"…The Mewtwo we created was too powerful.

We couldn't restrain it.

It escaped in a frenzy."

At Clear Cliff—

Mewtwo froze.

So… it existed there as well.

Equally powerful.

Even a former League Champion couldn't defeat it.

And yet—

For some reason, Mewtwo felt that this boy—Red—

could defeat it.

Was this… divine intuition?

"Red… Ash…

If I am truly defeated and captured by Red…

Then shouldn't Ash—my counterpart's counterpart—

Also, be my Trainer?"

Mewtwo's intellect was monstrous.

Human language? Trivial.

The barrage of commentary—fully understood.

The concept of counterparts—understood as well.

Before its awakening, it would have annihilated Ash without hesitation.

It would never submit.

But—

After awakening… it had changed.

Ash's actions were etched deeply into its memory.

Almost as deeply as that girl—Ai—

from the moment of its birth.

And since the Heavenly Ranking began,

Ash's deeds had been on full display.

So perhaps—

Becoming Ash's Pokémon…

didn't feel that repulsive anymore.

Team Rocket Headquarters—

Giovanni's fist tightened when he heard the name Mewtwo.

So… it existed there too.

Was it also created by Team Rocket in that world?

"Boss—"

Giovanni raised a hand.

He wanted silence.

Within the projection—

After Red finished recounting the journal, he asked quietly,

"Professor… could the Pokémon in Cerulean Cave be this Mewtwo?"

"That journal was likely written by Dr. Fuji," Oak said.

"Fuji… Doctor?"

Red paused.

Fuji?

The elder from Lavender Town?

"Dr. Fuji was the greatest Pokémon researcher of his era.

After discovering a new species, he was branded a heretic."

"A heretic? Why?"

"Because… he attempted to create an artificial Pokémon."

Red's eyes widened.

Artificial Pokémon.

The journal—Mew's eyelash—Mewtwo.

So Mewtwo was man-made.

Fuji had realized his dream—

Only for that dream to collapse.

The artificial Pokémon was uncontrollable.

Far beyond expectation.

"Then the Pokémon that defeated Blue—

Is it likely Mewtwo?"

"Possibly. We don't know.

But be careful, Red."

Oak returned a wooden box.

Everyone recognized it.

The box Fuji had given Red.

Inside—

Charizard's Mega Stone.

And a Key Stone.

Previously, Red had handed them over, unsure of their purpose.

Now Oak returned them.

"The larger stone resonates strongly with Charizard.

The smaller one… I can't decipher. It only holds immense vitality."

"Give the larger one to Charizard.

Carry the smaller yourself."

Red nodded.

Fuji's words echoed—

Carry them, deepen your bond, and one day you'll understand.

"Your Pokémon are fully recovered," Oak's assistant said, presenting the six Poké Balls.

"You're taking these six?"

"Yes. They're my strongest lineup.

If I can't win—I'll retreat."

He clipped the balls to his belt.

"Be safe, Red…"

Red rode his bike to Cerulean City.

He released Lapras to carry him inside the cave.

The cavern was dim, lit by faint blue starlight.

Stalactites lined the walls.

Silent. Empty.

"No Pokémon… were they driven out?"

After hundreds of meters—

Land appeared.

On the shore—

A strange Pokémon sat, eyes closed.

Humanoid. Feline.

Silver-white body, purple tail, and abdomen.

Three rounded fingers.

"So this is… Mewtwo?"

Mewtwo's eyes snapped open.

Purple fury burned within.

It was not calm.

[Lance]: What is that? I've never seen it.

[Cynthia]: It's not in myth… is this really a first-tier god?

[Diantha]: It's so small. Aren't the supreme gods enormous?

Most high-tier legends towered over humans.

This one barely reached human height.

"Why does it feel… familiar?" Ash murmured.

He couldn't place it.

And yet—

The sensation was undeniable.

"ROAR—!"

Mewtwo roared in warning.

Its instability worsened.

"You're Mewtwo, right?" Red said calmly.

"You look… like you're in pain."

No reply.

Only rage.

"Then I'll calm you down—Lapras!"

At Red's command, Mewtwo lost all restraint.

In two moves—

Lapras was obliterated.

Psycho Cut.

Psychic.

Instant defeat.

Lapras—the Pokémon that had swept Lance's entire team.

Crushed.

This was the power of a high-tier legend.

Around the world—

Villains watched.

Kyogre. Groudon.

If they obtained such power—

The world would kneel.

Giovanni watched silently.

He no longer worshipped gods.

Even ordinary Pokémon could rival them.

Mewtwo… was merely a tool.

Within the projection—

Red recalled Lapras.

He exhaled.

Now he understood Blue's defeat.

Then—

He released his next Pokémon.

Zapdos.

Yes.

Red had brought Legendary Pokémon with him.

Three of them.

Though weaker than Charizard and Pikachu—

They were stronger than Lapras.

And this time—

The real battle began.
