Chapter 136 - Mewtwo Is the Strongest Pokémon? Arceus Would Like a Word!

Footage —

No one expected this.

The self-proclaimed "strongest Pokémon" didn't even use a move.

It merely raised its hand—

And reflected Gyarados's attack straight back.

"Pathetic,"

Mewtwo said, a faint sneer forming at the corner of its mouth.

With a casual flick of its arm,

the nun standing nearby suddenly collapsed.

Only then did everyone realize—

She wasn't a nun at all.

She was Nurse Joy from the harbor,

brought here and controlled by Mewtwo solely so it could have its body examined.

Seeing Mewtwo manipulate humans so casually,

Ash and the others immediately voiced their outrage.

The perspective abruptly shifted—

to Team Rocket's viewpoint.

They were inside a pitch-black laboratory filled with countless incubation tanks.

Inside three of them were Pokémon—

Venusaur. Charizard. Blastoise.

The Kanto starters.

But something was… wrong.

They looked similar, yet subtly different from normal, fully evolved starters.

Then Jessie accidentally pressed a button—

And the truth was revealed.

These Pokémon were clones.

Mewtwo hadn't come to New Island alone.

It had brought Team Rocket's technology, refined it,

and perfected the cloning process entirely on its own.

What kind of high-intelligence monster was this?!

With Mewtwo's improvements,

A Pokémon could be cloned in mere seconds.

Meowth lost three strands of fur by accident—

And a brand-new Meowth was created right in front of him.

And then—

Near Team Rocket—

There was a small, cat-like Pokémon.

Pink body.

Large blue eyes.

A long, thin tail.

That Pokémon was—

[Professor Oak]: "Mew."

[Diantha]: "So that's Mew…"

[Cynthia]: "I've seen depictions of Mew in ancient ruins, but the real thing is far cuter than any carving."

[Leon]: "But why is Mew with Team Rocket?"

[Caitlin]: "Is it here to confront Mewtwo?

To decide who's the original and who's the knockoff?"

[Professor Oak]: "Unlikely.

Mew isn't aggressive by nature.

According to ancient texts, it's playful—childlike, even—and avoids conflict."

[Professor Oak]: "Those same records also state that Mew contains the genetic material of all Pokémon, allowing it to transform into any species… including Legendary Pokémon."

[Cynthia]: "Which is why some texts refer to Mew as the strongest mythical Pokémon.

Whether that's true… remains unknown."

[Bruno]: "You two read the same book or something?"

[Professor Oak]: "..."

[Cynthia]: "..."

Everyone else was contemplating Mew's power, its intentions, its mystery—

And Bruno was focused on that.

Impressive, in its own way.

Clear Spring Cliff —

Mewtwo stared at Mew, emotions swirling in its eyes.

This wasn't the first time it had seen Mew.

Yet every time, the feelings resurfaced.

Without Mew, Mewtwo wouldn't exist.

But after discovering Mega Evolution…

Mewtwo began to doubt its origin.

Perhaps it should have been born alongside Mew.

Perhaps Mew had once died—

And Mewtwo was resurrected through human hands.

That theory belonged to Champion Cynthia.

The first part, however, was Mewtwo's own speculation.

Watching Mew from a third-person perspective felt strange.

But then Mewtwo remembered what it did next—

And wished it could shut the footage off.

Pure black history.

'This thing is mischievous in every universe,'

Mewtwo's voice echoed in Red's mind.

In Red's world, traveling together meant encountering many Legendary Pokémon.

Including Mew.

Guided and stabilized by Red,

that Mewtwo had never become this extreme—

A brief clash, then departure.

'It is Mew,' Red replied flatly.

'It once turned into Ho-Oh right in front of me and scared the hell out of me.'

Back then, Mew transformed into Ho-Oh on sight.

Then Lugia. Then others.

"Legendary Ditto" was no exaggeration.

Footage —

The view returned to Mewtwo.

After casting Nurse Joy aside, it addressed the group coldly.

'I once wished to live alongside humans.'

(Yes. While being controlled by Giovanni and slaughtering everything in sight.)

'But I was disappointed.

Humans are inferior to Pokémon.'

'If this world remains under the rule of weak and cowardly humans, it is doomed.'

Brock supported Nurse Joy, anger flashing in his eyes.

"So what?

You think the world would be better if you ruled it?"

'Pokémon wouldn't work either.'

'Why?'

'Because Pokémon raised to serve humans are unfit to govern the world.'

Pikachu stepped forward.

"Pika! Pika-chu!"

'You're saying you aren't controlled by humans—

that you stay with your Trainer because you choose to?'

"Pika!"

Pikachu nodded firmly.

Ash felt his chest tighten.

He remembered how Pikachu once hated humans.

And now—

It openly declared its bond.

Their connection was undeniable.

'Foolish,' Mewtwo said, irritation seeping into its voice.

'Being with him is your greatest mistake.'

Blue light flared.

Pikachu was seized by psychic force and hurled away.

"Pikachu!"

Ash leapt forward, catching Pikachu mid-air—

Both slammed into the ground together.

'Only weak Pokémon rely on Trainers.'

That sentence—

Angered someone else entirely.

'Where is this universe's Mewtwo?

I feel it needs a small lesson.'

'You already know where it is,' Red replied calmly.

'After all… you're both Mewtwo.'

Red nearly laughed.

This universe's Mewtwo was intelligent—and painfully edgy.

It had just insulted itself across universes.

'I'll visit after the footage ends.'

To Red's Mewtwo,

this version was like a flashing neon sign in the dark.

Impossible to ignore.

Clear Spring Cliff —

Mewtwo: ...

Being contradicted by your future self was bad enough.

Being exposed to doing it publicly?

Disaster.

Especially considering—

It had once thought about making Ash its Trainer.

And now?

It was mocking Pokémon who relied on Trainers.

Self-inflicted humiliation.

Footage —

Enraged by Mewtwo's words, Ace stepped forward.

"Any Pokémon can be captured!

You're no exception!"

He released Rhydon.

A massive, armored powerhouse—

And it didn't last one turn.

"Useless," Mewtwo said calmly.

"I was born as the strongest Pokémon in the world."

[Lance]: "Ho-Oh and Lugia would like a word."

[Alder]: "The Tao Trio disagrees."

[Steven]: "Hoenn's ancient titans are interested."

[Cynthia]: "Arceus has typed a question mark."

Champions everywhere collectively facepalmed.

Yes, Mewtwo was strong.

High-tier Legendary strong.

But the strongest in the world?

That title had a very long waiting list.

Including the Creator of all things.

Footage —

Ash clenched his fists.

Strength meant nothing unless proven in battle.

Pikachu crackled beside him, eager.

The audience, however, sighed.

Easy there, Pikachu.

This wasn't Alola.

This wasn't a powered-up timeline.

You weren't ready yet.

Mewtwo anticipated Ash's defiance.

Three platforms rose from the floor.

On them stood—

Venusaur. Charizard. Blastoise.

Perfectly evolved clones.

A wall behind Mewtwo split open—

Revealing a Pokémon stadium.

The challenge was clear.

If Trainers believed themselves strong—

Prove it in battle.

Ace chose Venusaur vs. Venusaur.

Sweet sent Blastoise vs. Blastoise.

Charizard—

Naturally—

Was Ash's opponent.

"Go! Charizard!"

"Roar."

Charizard snorted dismissively.

Then it felt something.

A powerful presence.

It raised its head, locked eyes with Mewtwo—

And unleashed Flamethrower without hesitation.

Blocked effortlessly.

"How rude," Mewtwo remarked.

"What an ill-mannered Charizard."

"HAHA—this is before Ash could even command Charizard properly!"

"Yeah, he can't control it until the Orange Islands!"

"And Charizard hasn't trained at the Charicific Valley yet—

It's still weak!"

"Can he really win?"

No one knew.

This Charizard was at its weakest.

Footage —

The first battle began.

Ace's Venusaur used Razor Leaf—

Shattered instantly by Vine Whip.

Bound.

Slammed twice into the ground.

Thrown into the wall.

Defeated in one move.

Sweet had no time to react.

Her Blastoise fired Hydro Pump—

Only for the clone to spin rapidly, deflect both streams—

And ram straight into it.

Launched like a cannonball.

Knocked out.

Two starters.

Two instant defeats.

Ash was the last hope.

[Lance]: "It's over.

Charizard's foundation is damaged, hasn't trained, and won't listen.

There's no chance."

[Diantha]: "I disagree.

Ash can win—if we trust Lance."

[Leon]: "I trust you, Lance."

[Cynthia]: "Same here."

[Lance]: "????"

Once again—

Lance's infamous reverse prediction was activated.

Footage —

Misty shouted anxiously:

"Ash, be careful!

Their levels are way higher than ours!"

"I know!" Ash yelled.

"Charizard! Please—we won't lose!"

"ROAR!"

Charizard ignored him.

It charged forward with Flamethrower.

The clone Charizard met it head-on.

Their flames collided—

And Ash's Charizard was overpowered.

"Dodge!

We can't win head-on—use speed!"

Charizard hesitated—

Then canceled its attack and soared upward.

Just this once—

It listened.

The clone followed immediately.

Fire blasts rained down.

Clashes mid-air.

Strikes with wings and tails.

Misty muttered helplessly:

"How exactly are we faster…?"

They climbed higher—

Into the clouds.

After a fierce exchange—

Ash's Charizard was grabbed.

The clone plummeted downward—

Dragging it with unstoppable force.

'Seismic Toss.'

The finishing move.

If this landed—

Ash's Charizard was done.

Could Ash turn it around at the last moment?
