It took Lin Feng a full half day to finally understand what kind of situation he was in now.
But as he stared at the towering ancient trees and the vines hanging everywhere, he still couldn't help feeling a little melancholic.
A few hours ago, Lin Feng had still been sitting in front of his computer, playing a certain online game called Genshin Impact.
He had just queued up for a weekly co-op boss run when a "big bro" teammate unleashed dozens of Musou no Hitotachi right on top of him. Lin Feng had been about to greet the guy when his screen went black—
and the next thing he knew, he was hanging from a tree at least twenty meters off the ground.
Seeing a group of long-legged mushrooms swaggering past beneath him, Lin Feng finally confirmed it:
he had somehow crossed into the world of Genshin Impact—the continent of Teyvat.
Back in his original world, he had always been a lone wolf. Crossing into Teyvat wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
After all, finding a courtyard near the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, occasionally grabbing a meal at Wanmin Restaurant, and rubbing dogs on the Liyue bridge afterward had always been his dream.
But his current situation… was not exactly ideal.
Compared to being locked in a Treasure Hoarder cage or tossed into a hilichurl pot, being hung from a tree wasn't the worst—
provided it was an ordinary forest.
He had barely gotten used to balancing himself on the branch when disaster struck:
a long-maned tiger leapt onto the tree trunk, baring its fangs at him.
"…"
Staring at those ridiculously oversized canines, Lin Feng suddenly wondered if his entire arm was even as thick as one of those teeth.
"Roar!"
The long-maned tiger let out a deafening roar, clearly enraged that a human had wandered into its territory.
One look at his skinny arms and legs convinced Lin Feng to abandon any plans of roaring back. He immediately turned and ran.
Behind him, the tiger's footsteps followed like his own shadow.
Thankfully, this body—although young—was much stronger than his previous one. Sliding down the rough bark, Lin Feng felt like he was playing a real-life version of Pac-Man… except this time he was the pellet.
"Raaagh!"
Long-maned tigers were excellent climbers, and this one lunged at him again.
"Screw it—either way, I'm dead!"
Seeing the tiger closing in and the ground only about four meters below, Lin Feng shut his eyes and jumped.
He hit the ground rolling, dispersing the impact. He wasn't hurt, but things were far from good—
the tumble had disrupted his vision, and that split second of blindness might give the tiger an opening.
Rip—
His clothes tore. Pain flared across his back, snapping him straight back to reality.
It's over, it's over—
I'm really about to become a buffet-on-legs!
Lin Feng cried internally.
He scrambled up, wondering if he should attempt a sliding tackle just to die with a shred of dignity.
But then he spotted a few Thorn-crowned Crocs sunbathing by the wetland shore. His eyes lit up.
Rolling aside to dodge the tiger's pounce, he bolted straight toward the crocs like a madman.
Please let the in-game ecological notes be accurate, he prayed.
Since this place already has a group of other predators, it should be the edge of the tiger's territory. No way it's going to fight a whole pack of crocs just to eat a scrawny human, right?
He sprinted straight toward them. At this distance, he could already smell the fishy stench from between their teeth.
Clenching his teeth, he leapt—
and vaulted right over the head of a Thorn-crowned Croc.
"Roar!"
The long-maned tiger, which had been relentlessly chasing him, finally stopped when it saw the irritable neighbors lifting their bodies. It let out two unwilling roars, then slowly backed away into its own territory.
"Whew…"
Lin Feng stopped by a small pond a safe distance away from the crocs.
When his pounding heartbeat finally eased a little, he let out a long breath and sat down on a piece of charred, fallen wood.
Watching the ants marching by his feet and a few red-and-green parrots drinking by the water, he suddenly realized—
this was no longer the sanitized, game-like world from his screen.
Every creature here was alive. Real.
Dragging his worn-out body, he approached the water's edge. In the reflection, his face wasn't all that different from his previous life. Handsome, even.
—As expected of me. Already this good-looking in my early teens.
Lin Feng thought smugly.
After all that running, his clothes were soaked.
During the chase, he had noticed the oversized mushrooms and massive trees—so large that several people couldn't wrap their arms around them. From that alone, he knew he must be somewhere in Sumeru's rainforest. But Sumeru in reality was way bigger than the game version, so he had no way of telling exactly where he was.
His outfit was still what he'd worn before crossing over: a white shirt under a sun-blocking jacket, black casual pants—shrunk to fit his now-younger body.
Once he confirmed the area was relatively safe, he checked the wound on his back. Surprisingly, aside from the torn clothes, the injury wasn't deep.
He didn't dare use the pond water directly, so he wiped the wound with part of his shirt.
Seeing the blood still oozing a little, he worried about infection.
Hopefully the beasts here don't carry weird viruses…
"Grrr~"
As soon as his tense nerves relaxed, his stomach growled loudly.
After half a day of high-intensity running, the fact that he was only now feeling hungry was honestly impressive.
He eyed a parrot drinking by the pond. Tossing a stone in his hand, he suddenly felt a surge of mysterious confidence.
Whoosh—
The stone flew straight and true…
and hit a frog right behind the parrot.
Expression dark, Lin Feng watched the startled parrot flap away.
So this was one of life's three great illusions.
Sighing, he walked over to the twitching frog—his hard-earned emergency food.
But the moment his fingers touched it——
A flood of information surged into his mind:
[Individual Information: Amphibian — Jungle Tree Frog]
Level: 1 (Just an ordinary little creature)
Element: None
Traits: Gliding, Mucus, Unconscious
Emotion: @#¥%&
Friendliness: 0 (It does not know you)
Lin Feng's disappointment instantly vanished.
This… was probably his cheat!
He focused on the traits, and more details appeared:
Gliding: Exceptional individuals among jungle tree frogs can glide through the rainforest. This frog is considered gifted.
Mucus: The mucus secreted by jungle tree frogs has multiple medicinal uses. Direct contact with the tongue causes paralysis.
Unconscious: Temporarily incapacitated. Will recover in 417 seconds.
As he watched, the "Unconscious" timer ticked down to 416.
Real-time updates too? Lin Feng mused.
Besides viewing info… was there anything else?
The next moment, new text appeared in his mind:
Primordial Creature Development System (Internal Test Ver. 0.53)
Features:
• Data View
• Data Modification
• Trait Enhancement
Modified Creature: Newbie Treasure Hoarder Weasel
