Chapter 55 - Dark Knight

If the automated armed mechanical soldiers joined the battle, it would end instantly.

However, these mercenaries gave Zod a chance to display his might.

He'd been thinking about when he should make a public appearance in powered armor, and now the opportunity had come.

"Natalie, come with me."

Zod led Natalie toward the metal corridor.

Natalie's heartbeat sped up. As a newcomer, was she really about to come into contact with company secrets this soon?

Or was Zod Heath worried about her safety and bringing her behind that metal door because it looked extremely secure?

Then she saw Zod stop in front of the metal door.

A password panel slid out, and it turned out to be eye recognition and oral recognition. No wonder she couldn't find any lock. It was that advanced?

After Zod went in, Natalie hurried to follow.

Inside was a wide, spacious area, packed with rows of War Machines.

These were prepared in advance to mislead anyone who got in, and clearly, Natalie was misled too.

Next, Natalie watched Zod step onto a black platform.

"Black Queen."

The black platform lit up instantly.

Liquid-like metal spread from the platform onto Zod's feet, then crawled upward.

When it covered his whole body, it formed a suit of armor.

Black Widow's face showed shock.

That was understandable. She was practically a last-century relic, and a sci-fi scene this outrageous blew past her limit in one hit.

The full-body streamlined design gave the armor a clean, sharp beauty, while the thick armored joints radiated brute power.

The layered metal plates weren't just defensive, they were shaped with aesthetic intent.

The helmet was formed by nanometal extended from two external ear covers, dripping with futuristic style.

This oddly shaped helmet linked into the neck armor, then extended down from the jaw to form protective plating.

The armor's color began to shift, with the main plated sections turning pure black.

This came from the nanometal altering color at the molecular level, and then golden patterns surfaced across the thick shoulder armor.

The transformation completed in an instant.

In one stroke, the once mechanical-looking nano-armor changed into something drenched in a dark aesthetic.

This armor was made of nanorobots.

After obtaining hundreds of tons of vibranium, Zod finally had the capital to burn on research, so with Black Queen's help he completed nanotech development and manufactured these nanorobots.

They were all controlled by Black Queen and possessed both shapeshifting and overwhelming defensive capability.

Black Queen analyzed vibranium data along with the composition data of the world's alloys and metals.

After running the calculations, she successfully produced an alloy even stronger than secondary kryptonite and A-grade kryptonite.

This alloy became the main material for the nanorobots, though it was a pity the Sun God Armor and War God Armor couldn't be dismantled further. If he could fuse in original kryptonite, it might become even stronger.

"Dark Knight armor equipping complete."

Black Queen's cold voice sounded, and Natalie learned the armor's name.

It looked completely different from mass-produced units like War Machine.

"Boss?"

Natalie was led out by Zod.

The eavesdropping devices she'd secretly placed were soon retrieved and destroyed by nanorobots dispatched by Black Queen.

Wearing the Dark Knight armor, Zod ran straight into a squad of mercenaries.

"It's a War Machine!" a mercenary shouted, opening fire on Zod.

But the Dark Knight's alloy strength surpassed even vibranium, and the bullets didn't even scratch the black coating that looked like paint.

Zod raised a hand and fired a blue energy beam at them.

The "beam" was actually a stream of energy particles formed into a bundle.

To ordinary eyes, it looked like a beam of light, though it wasn't as fast as true light.

There was no blood spray. The energy vaporized most matter it touched.

The two mercenaries at the front were standing close together, and their heads were effortlessly vaporized into the most primitive elemental particles.

A trace of energy that passed under their ribs continued through, evaporating the left hand of a third mercenary behind them.

The necks of the headless mercenaries were scorched by terrifying energy, and no blood could even spurt out. From a distance, they looked like headless mannequins.

Natalie, following behind, frowned at the weapon's appalling power.

The palm energy cannon on Zod Heath's armor was far stronger than the ones on other War Machines.

Then she saw Zod raise his index finger.

A red glow lit up at the fingertip, and red laser beams fired at an astonishing rate.

Each shot punched straight through the mercenaries' full-body armor vests, leaving holes big enough for a ping-pong ball to pass through.

All ten fingers of the Dark Knight could fire these high-penetration lasers.

With increased output, the lasers could even cut.

The Dark Knight advanced like an unstoppable force, smashing through everything in its path.

The mercenaries had fierce firepower and even brought RPGs, even though using an RPG in a sealed environment was basically suicide.

"What is that?"

They watched the pitch-black armor stride forward. It resembled War Machine, but countless details were different.

Then they saw it raise a hand.

"Burning Cannon."

Zod's voice sounded, and the armor on his arm immediately reshaped.

Nanorobots assembled into a preset configuration, and then spiraling flames blasted out, shooting over a hundred meters.

Mercenaries hit by the spiral flame screamed as they turned to ash inside the fire.

The corridor's sprinkler system immediately activated, spraying water to extinguish the flames.

"The Dark Knight's performance is pretty good."

Zod was satisfied. By now, he'd tested most of the weapons he'd designed.

Next came the start of slaughter mode.

Nanorobots rapidly reformed into a long blade that fit his hand.

High-frequency vibration made the blade unstoppable, capable of cleaving even vibranium in a single strike.

Black Widow then saw the armor's back open, revealing a row of thrusters.

They sprayed blue exhaust that looked like radiant wings, dazzlingly beautiful.

With that burst of acceleration, the Dark Knight closed the distance instantly, and in a storm of flashing steel, it carved the mercenaries apart like chopping melons and slicing vegetables.
