Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

LUCIAN'S POV

What was taking her so long. He could feel himself becoming more and more restless.

He paced back and forth, checking the gold watch that hung delicately on his wrist.

He didn't know why he felt this way, he didn't have any feelings for her whatsoever.

Unable to bear it, he decided to go look for her in her room. As he got nearer, his heart grew heavy. When he got to the door, he heard the sound of running water.

He burst into the room, a sense of dread washimg over him.

She was lying in the bathtub, the tap was on with the water level above her head. He dashed into the bathroom. And scooped her up placing her on the bed. Fortunately, she was still breathing and hadn't swallowed a lot of water.

He covered her with a towel. He felt frustrated. If he had been any minute late, she would've died.

He didn't want to lose her not yet. He stayed by her side drying her hair up so she won't catch a cold. He looked at the beautiful woman lying on the bed. He felt guilty, he hadn't treated her right but what could he do?

He'll do anything in order for her to stay next to his side forever till death.

Taking her hands into his, he kissed her, trying to warm her up.

His heart ached, his finger unconsciously traced her pale lips.

This feeling— what was it? He asked himself. He had never cared for anyone except himself. Was it love? He could feel himself falling deeper each and everytime he sees her. Her calm demeanor attracted him. But even so, he had managed to compose himself not letting any of his emotions out, trying so hard to fight it but the more he resisted the more he fell deeper.

This was deemed a weakness, something that the other party would use against him. In order to protect her, he had to stay away even though they were married.

And because of the cold attitude towards his wife, everyone assumed he didn't love her.

He looked at her deeply trying to take in her soft facial features. He felt her shiver. He lay down on the bed and embraced her trying to warm her up.

The next morning, Serene woke up. She was still in a daze. Was she reborn? She slowly sat up, her head ached badly. She looked at the empty space beside her. It felt someone had been there with her. But she couldn't bother much about it. She looked around but she was still in her room.

Strange, she muttered getting up from her bed. Yesterday night, what happened. She tried to rack her brain but she couldn't remember anything. She knew she attempted to drown herself but after that nothing else came to mind. She stood there for a while in a state of frenzy.

Stepping out of her room, she felt the cool breeze hit her. Shivering, she wrapped herself with a blanket and went down.

"He might have gone to the company", she thought.

She sat on the dining chair, she looked at the varieties of food before her but she lacked appetite. Her mouth seemed sour and her head ached really bad.

She stared into space, who could have saved her. Who went to her room last night?

Ma'am, is there any problem. The maid asked snapping her out of her thoughts.

No, there's nothing wrong but yesterday did you perhaps come to my room?

No ma'am, the maid replied back.

She continued, sir says you should stay back home, reason unknown.

You can go, Serene dismissed the maid. There was nothing wrong with her, even if there was she was fine. She realized that there was something wrong last night. But no matter how hard she tried to remember not a single thing came to mind.

A notification popped up, she opened it there was a message from Theodore; "Can we meet, I'll like to discuss something very important with you. I'll send you the location via email". She furrowed her eyebrows wondering what he wanted to discuss with her.

Checking the time, it was 1:30pm. She noticed she barely had enough time and needed to pack his lunch and drop it for him at the company. She rushed to the kitchen but the chef had already done it, thanking him for the stress and time he saved her. She carried the lunch box and headed towards his company.

She reached his company, it was a skyscraper, one of the biggest buildings in the country. She walked towards the elevator, the secretary greeted her warmly and she reciprocated with a smile. She pressed the button to the top floor where her husband's office were.

He was in a meeting, she looked at him. His facial features were striking with a sharp jawline and thick brows that made him masculine. She knew she could never get tired from observing him. But it doesn't matter, they could never be together now of in the future. She had to leave if not for her mother. She'd have divorced him and started a new life elsewhere perhaps leave the country for good.

It was only a glass wall that separated the both of them, not wanting to disturb. She left the box on the table and quietly left.

Before, she would have stayed and watched him eat then go back home, but this time she had somewhere else to go.

She boarded a taxi, it was a cafe, a bit far away from home and the company. But she was curious to know what he wanted to tell her. He had saved her life and she owed him.

She reached the location, she saw him sitting down. She felt attracted to him in a way. It was normal for one to be attracted to something beautiful. She walked in..

LUCIAN'S POV

I felt a surge of joy when I noticed she has around. But I tried my best to conceal it. But upon ending the meeting and walking into the office she was gone, no call, no note. This was unlikely of her. She'd stay even if he was in a meeting.

Where'd she go or was she down with fever. He called the butler at home but she wasn't at home.

Loosening his tie, he dialed a number; "I need her whereabouts ASAP"

Some minutes passed and he received some pictures. There she was with another man. The fact they were up so close made his blood boil and in an awkward position. Furious, he slammed the desk.

Since she had regained enough strength to meet up with him, it showed she was better. "Well she has had enough rest", he said in a menacing tone.
