(AN: I'm getting the odd feeling that longer chapters are becoming the new average chapter length since this is again a longer chapter.)
Alastor finally had a full picture of the situation at the legendary fort he was now in charge off with Anduin out of commission and the Fort commander being well....dead.
Supplies, medicine, food, weapons, vehicles etc were running a bit too low than what he had actually thought, thankfully they were now all replenished with the supplies his army had brought along.
Morale was also recovered due to him taking formal command, it was time like these that he was thankful of his legendary reputation.
Since when the soldiers, knights, priests and mages found out that he was the one in charge of the Fort now.
Their low morale due to the disastrous death of the Fort commander and the incapacitation of Anduin Lothar had been completely dispelled.
Alastor had also integrated his army into the Fort's forces as well as looking over and optimizing defences.
Alleria stayed beside him always offering valuable strategic advice due to her long experience as a Ranger-Captain of the Farstriders.
Loretta, now Major General Loretta and his current head of General Staff despite her reservations at her sudden promotions proved surprisingly capable not only as a field commander but General Staff.
He already decided if she survives the campaign he would snatch her up for his own forces.
What? Talented and determined people were not so easy to come by! and as his mother says 'All is fair in Politics'.
Or was it; The early bird gets the worms?
----------------------------------------------------
2 days and nights had passed with no conflict but it was on the 3rd day that the Orks came back again.
Alarms blared across the Fort after the communication office picked up a massive force of Orks approaching at high speeds on their sensor relays.
Already used to fighting Orks for several generations the soldiers almost like a well oiled machine began getting into battle stations while waiting for orders.
Alastor who was in the Fort commander's room resting, opened his eyes and shot to his feet from his bed as he quickly donned his custom made power armour.
A primarily light grey armour with black as a secondary colour with dark blue highlights.
(A/N: The Cover photo)
Similar to a Knight's power armour but made for his own use as well as being enchanted by magic like being able to conform to both his Primarch size and mortal size.
"It's time" Alastor muttered as he also attached the sheathed form of his High frequency power sword, Dawn on his left hip.
Ready Alastor left his chambers and quickly made his way over to the War room and was pleased to see his commanders already there and ready along with Alleria.
"Status report, Tell me what we are dealing with."
Loretta who had been chosen as the Head commander by her fellows used the Holo-table to show a overhead hologram of the Fort and it's surrounding area.
Pointing towards the blinking green dots slowly approaching the Fort.
"My prince, according to the reports from the sensor division, The approaching Horde consists of many specialized Ork units, Burna Boyz, Kommandoz, Tankbustas, Warbikers, Flyboyz, Stormboyz and the like."
"We also believe further behind the Orks also have their heavy armoured units not far behind like Gorkanauts, Morkanaut, Deff Dreads and Trukks."
Alastor looked at the Hologram green dots closely as well as the route they were taking and made calculations and countermeasures in just a few moments.
"Only a few hours till they arrive.....Good"
Alastor immediately began relaying his orders, where each company must be stationed, where each AA gun group must focus fire, the designated Kill-zones, Instructions for artillery teams etc
He did not leave out a single group unless they were the reserve force in constructing his intricate web of death.
------------------------------------------------------------
"Ere We Go, 'Ere We Go, 'Ere We Go!"
"KRUMP EM UMIES!!"
"WAAAAAAAAGGHHHH!"
The massive green tide of Orks charged towards the distant Fortress, most of them being in Trukks and other similar ramshacle transports while others like Warbikers sped through the land on their favoured bikes.
At the head of the massive wave was a Large Battlewagon that contained Durkol Eye-Gouger another Notorious Black Ork Warboss who was also a part of "Da Immortulz" as Grimgor's trusted body guards.
Like many of his brethren after Grimgor left to the depths of the Red mountains, the famous Black Ork group separated with some finding their own Klans or making their own names.
Yet despite the time passing each and everyone of them were still deadly loyal to Grimgor and with their Boss back it was time to remind the world why Orks were the Da best!
In fact it was his very boss who gave him command of the current Horde to attack the human Fort.
Not that he found it hard if anything he was absolutely sure he and his horde could break through the Fort, have a good scrap with the humans before finally pouring out to bring some good old krumping to the rest of the Wo---!!!
"BOOOOM!!!"
In the very next moment Durkol's world turned upside down as his Battlewagon was hit by a powerful artillery shell and ended up dropping to it's side and skidding forward.
"Wot da bloody 'ell iz dat!?"
Durkol slammed his foot on his wagon's door taking it off it's hinges as he shook his head and got out of it to see that his horde was being bombarded by human artillery.
Now Durkol was an Ork but he was a Black Ork and one of the strongest ones to boot, so aside from strength he also had cunning and smarts like good old Mork or was it Gork?
Anyway it didn't take him long to find that either for some reason the humans aim had improved a whole lot or someone was spying on them like a Purple Ork.
Cause no matter how much his Boys scattered, the artillery seemed to always hit where most of the Orks were gathered.
He growled as he dodged another strike that all but ruined his favourite Battlewagon!
'E JUST GOT DAT WAGON ALL GORKED UP, 'E DID!!
Punching a Warbiker off his ride he took the bike and began rallying his horde again to continue their attack, nothing a few hits in the head couldn't fix.
But even as his army once more began their violent assault, they were still being pelted by artillery as Orks were blown into pieces.
And it only got worse as they were fall way through the first defensive line to the second they entered a extensive minefield with many mines only exploding when they had a vehicle on top of them.
A specialized mine model made by Alastor specifically calibrated for Ork Vehicles through their pressure sensors.
When the Horde did pass the second defensive line and out of the minefield they were then attacked by Stormwind Aircrafts which mostly targeted the Airborne Orks like Deffkopta, Dakkajet, Burna-Bommer and Blitza-Bommmers.
And close behind them came a wave of Stormwind Gunships specifically Anvil Paladins that unleashed a storm of ordinance on the Orks below paying a special consideration for vehicles and Elite Orks.
The Anvils were perhaps the only major vehicle Alastor was able to bring since it's control were very similar to the crews of Heavy Gunships and thus didn't take long for them to get used to it. If he had more time he would have the standard fighters also replaced with his F-302 model.
(A/N: Anvil Paladins are from Star Citizen, the ones used here were made by Alastor and configured to show the same amount of terror to the resident threats.)
(A/N: And for the cultured people yes the F-302 are the same ones used in Stargate.)
Durkol seethed in anger at what was happening, his Boyz were being picked off before they even reached the Fort!
He first tried to have his Mek Guns shoot down the human air crafts only to find they were either destroyed by the human artillery barrages (Which were still pelting them!) or were completely suppressed by the same barrages.
He couldn't have his Flyboyz go to the Fort ahead and take care of the artillery since they already being picked off the human fighters not to mention the Anvil Paladins were delivering their own brand of death from above.
Durkol quickly took cover behind another Battlewagon on his bike as a Paladin began hovering over his position and shooting at him only to hit the Battlewagon and chip it's protections off to kill the Orks within it.
Durkol tore off a large plate off the Battlewagon as it's crew were killed, when it flipped and tumbled behind, he immediately threw the metal plate at the Paladin's cockpit like a frisbee.
The plate jammed into the glass with it's edge piercing the pilot causing it to go out of control and crash into a rock trukk before going up in flames.
But the destruction did not make Durkol happy knowing the only way to reach the fort was through the hail of bullets, lasers and explosions.
It was the Orky way but he knew that his Boss wouldn't be happy seeing the lack lustre damage he and his Boyz would have dealth.
--------------------------------------------
"Orks have passed the second defensive line, fighters and Paladins have begun engagement."
"Initial Objectives have been completed above predictions."
"Ork Cohesiveness have started fracturing on the following formations."
Alastor sat calmly as he heard the different reports and gave orders when needed.
Alastor had seen the former plans and tactics used against the Orks before his arrival and he had to applaud his uncle Anduin for his foresight.
Even when incapacitated and his second in command dead, Anduin's overall plan did end up causing great amount of losses amongst the last attack forcing the Orks to retreat for a time.
But what strategy Alastor was using currently was his one of his own make.
He had rearranged the Fort defences first of all by making 4 defensive lines, the first 3 were all the same distance apart and had cascading traps and defences.
Each of these lines would employ a certain military asset against the Orks, for example as soon as they passed the first line they were pelted by concentrated artillery fire.
Which normally would not be effective since not only would Orks be able to disperse their ranks while keeping momentum but at such a distance accurate aiming was very hard even when the range was within the artillery's range.
Thankfully the artillery teams did not have to predict, that was where Alastor came in as he was able to mentally triangulate the coordinates needed to hit specific areas using only the data he got from the sensor relays and the hypothetical distance from the Orks.
The Artillery teams then would only have to adjust their batteries to the given coordinates and fire.
This did have the effect of his commanders and sensory officer look at him as if he was some sort of monster.
Back to the defence, after the artillery the Orks would face a minefield and when crossing into the second defensive line they would be additional harassed by his Paladin ships while the air craft took care of their own Air units.
The first 3 lines did not need to eradicate the Horde, that would be wishful thinking, No instead they were primarily used for one purpose only.
To blunt and bleed the Ork's momentum.
Each line crossed, each inch gained would be paid in copious amounts of blood with barely any loss in the human side before an active engagement.
Orks do feel fear it's just that they feel it different from humans and most sentient races, for most Orks fear losing badly or dying wastefully as well as overwhelming odds since it stops the fighting and shows weakness.
And anyone with even basic knowledge of Orks knows that weakness is at best despised by the Orks or worse punished severely by them.
And that was what Alastor wanted and started to see as he watched the Orks cohesiveness, Chaotic cohesiveness but one nonetheless start to fracture as they drew closer and closer across the defensive lines.
This form of harassment and attacks would continue until they pass the 3rd defensive line where unlike before there would be more distance between the 3rd and 4th lines.
It was in the 4th line where the true Greenskin Graveyard was set by Alastor.
The 4th defensive line was a fortified location and had bunkers, trenches, tanks and other fortified defences manned by soldiers who would lie in wait.
It was also able to be supported by the Fortress's outer wall defences, since by the time the Orks would reach the 4th defensive line they would also be in range of the Outer wall defences or at least most of them.
Snipers positioned on the Outer wall would be tasked to taken out any Ork officer or influential Orks, AA guns would counter any Flyboyz or Stormboyz while other defences would support the 4th line in maintaining their designated kill zones.
Alastor got up from his throne like chair and started making his way to the door to the confusion of his commanders, only Alleria who as if knowing what was going through his mind followed him out silently.
"My prince where are you going!?"
"To the 4th defensive line, the artillery teams can now confidently maintain an almost accurate bombardment so I will not be needed in that department instead I will personally lead the 4th's defence while fighting alongside them."
"But.....but....then who's going to direct command here!?"
"Thanks for reminding me Loretta while I'm gone you're in charge."
"WHAT!?" Loretta looked at him incredulously as he gave her a thumbs up.
"That's exactly the enthusiasm that had led to your promotion! keep it up, and you'll be General in not time!"
And with that Alastor and Alleria disappeared behind the sliding metal doors.
Some soldiers patrolling the corridors outside would swear they heard the screams of frustration which sounded oddly similar to their Major General's.
Must be their imagination.
