Even though he couldn't say it out loud in front of Emily's parents, Roger really wanted to insult Tobby as a toad lusting after swan meat!
Emily Thomas could look down on me however she pleased, but she'd never belittle me in front of outsiders. Hearing another man talk about her man, she got a little pissed and directly retorted to Roger, "I'm still making music, and I think it's all worth it. Sorry, I'm a married woman now.
