"Tobby, you know The Griffin Division's exam has always been brutally strict. Last time, the three of you nearly died blowing up that foreign gene lab, barely made it back alive. This time, you don't have Edward and Jason's support—how's that supposed to work? One wrong move and you're dead."
Tobby: "I know. But joining The Griffin Division has always been my lifelong wish."
The instructor sighed. "All right. But I probably can't get you a spot. It depends on how well you place at the 36th Army tournament. Who they hire, that's out of our hands."
Tobby: "I get it. That's why I'm signing up for the 36th. Ten-man team—save me a slot."
Instructor: "Fine. I'll save you a spot. Since you're going in, enlist early and train with the others to build some chemistry."
Tobby: "No problem. I'll handle things quickly on my end."
I hung up, and for a moment, I felt a little pleased.
