Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Kaiju in Japan (2)

[Third person POV]

The citizens gathered by the harbor screamed in terror as Godzilla opened its massive maw. A piercing screech tore through the air as a blinding beam of concentrated plasma energy surged forth, slicing through the sky like a blade of white-hot fury.

Panic erupted. People stumbled over each other, tripping and collapsing onto the ground. Some shielded their eyes, others clutched their loved ones, all bracing themselves for the inevitable annihilation that was sure to follow.

But instead of fiery obliteration, there was only a thunderous grunt—followed by a seismic boom. The earth trembled violently beneath their feet.

When they dared to open their eyes, what they saw rendered them speechless.

Superman stood alone before the devastating plasma beam, his arms outstretched, catching the blast with his bare hands. The ground beneath him buckled, and twin trenches formed as his feet were pushed backward by the raw, unrelenting force. His cape flapped violently in the whirlwind.

Sparks flew from his palms, his skin turning red and scorched as the intense heat licked against him, the skin in his palm beginning to flake. His cheeks were puffed with exertion, veins bulging along his arms as he dug in with everything he had.

He was the last wall standing between humanity and utter destruction.

"Awoooo!!" Krypto howled from above, shooting into action. The loyal dog flew with fierce speed, bombarding the kaiju's thick hide with searing heat vision. But Godzilla—a creature born in the crushing depths of the ocean and forged in unimaginable heat—was unfazed. The beam bounced harmlessly off its scales.

With a sudden twist, Godzilla's massive tail swung around with terrifying speed. It connected with Krypto mid-air, slamming him into the ground with a devastating CRASH. The impact shattered the concrete beneath, sending up a cloud of debris and causing the surrounding buildings to tremble. Tremors raced through the streets like aftershocks.

"NO!" Clark bellowed, fury overtaking him.

With a mighty stomp, he halted his retreat. Bracing himself, he drew back one hand while keeping the other locked against the beam. His muscles coiled, his eyes blazing with focus. Then—with an earth-shaking roar—he drove his fist into the heart of the plasma blast. The sheer force of his punch sent out a massive shockwave, reversing the flow of energy.

He didn't stop there.

Superman launched into the air, hammering the beam repeatedly with relentless punches, each blow louder and more powerful than the last. With one final, punishing uppercut, he struck Godzilla's jaw, slamming its mouth shut and sending the colossal creature hurtling backward. It crashed into the ocean, sending a towering wave rocketing into the sky.

The tidal surge slammed into the harbor, sweeping cars, debris, and even people into the air. Vehicles tumbled forward like toys caught in a storm, skidding and crashing toward each other, their trajectory set to turn them into deadly projectiles.

But before disaster could strike, Superman zoomed in like a bolt of lightning. He weaved between the chaos in a zigzag blur, stopping each car with precise, controlled force, preventing a single collision, and saving everyone from being hurt. Then, without pause, he shot toward the distant crater where Krypto had fallen.

"Krypto—please, buddy—be okay," he muttered desperately as he tore through the rubble with trembling hands. Dust clung to his face as he dug, tossing away boulders and debris with frantic urgency. At last, a low growl rumbled from beneath.

A large slab was shoved aside—and with a shared heave from both man and dog—it toppled away.

Krypto emerged from beneath, dirty and dazed, but alive. His fur was matted with dirt, but there was no mistaking that he was unharmed.

Clark let out a long breath of relief. "I really keep forgetting how ridiculously durable you are," he said with a small, grateful smile.

Krypto barked in response and shook himself clean, dust flying in all directions.

But the fight wasn't over.

Out in the ocean, the kaiju was already moving again. It swam in tight circles, churning the water as it built momentum. Then, in an impossible display of power, it dove deep—only to shoot straight up like a missile.

With an ear-splitting roar, the kaiju burst from the waves, launching itself over the city with terrifying speed and intent.

"No…" Clark whispered.

Then—BOOM! The ground cracked open beneath him as he launched into the sky, air exploding in his wake. He became a red-and-white streak racing to intercept the monster before it could finish what it had started.

The jagged backspikes along the kaiju's spine began to glow, one by one, like ominous beacons. A high-pitched whrrrrr began to resonate from deep within its throat, building into a terrifying hum. Sparks of unstable plasma began to flicker in its maw, signaling the charge of another catastrophic blast.

But Clark was already on the move.

He surged past the beast in a blur, soaring through the air. Then, without hesitation, he twisted mid-flight, flipped backward in a tight arc, and changed direction with a thunderous crack of displaced air. A streak of white and red light followed in his wake as he rocketed back toward the kaiju.

With a roar of fury, Clark pulled his fist back and drove it forward with earth-shattering force, slamming it directly into the creature's abdomen. Though he was dwarfed in size compared to the monstrous Kaiju, the power behind his punch was anything but small. His fist dug into its stomach, pushing deeper and deeper into its flesh as shockwaves rippled across the kaiju's massive body.

The creature bent inward around the impact, nearly folding in half as its gut caved from the blow. But even as it reeled, the plasma it had been charging was released—a glowing mass of destructive energy, fired wildly from its mouth like a shooting star.

The kaiju was launched backward, hurled through the sky like a ragdoll. The plasma orb it unleashed continued its deadly trajectory… and struck the heart of the city.

The explosion hit.

A blinding light enveloped the skyline. Windows shattered for miles. Cars were flipped like toys. Buildings crumbled as a thunderous blast wave rippled outward.

But then—time itself stopped.

Or at least, it seemed to.

The kaiju's body was suspended in midair, locked in a moment of frozen impact. The sphere of plasma, at the center of the destruction, hung in place—its shockwave preserved like a flower in bloom. A white-hot ring had formed around the orb, paused at the edge of detonation.

Hovering above it all was Superman.

His body trembled in the golden aura of his spiritual energy, illuminating the skies like a second sun. He panted heavily, hands covering his face. The weight of the moment crushed down on him.

"No…" he whispered, his voice trembling. "Not again. I won't let anyone else die. Not on my watch… not ever!"

Between his fingers, his eyes flared with blazing crimson. As he slowly slid his hands down, the full intensity of his stare was revealed—pure fury, pure will, pure grief turned into power.

"I'm god damn Superman," he growled through clenched teeth, the words resonating like a vow. His fists curled at his sides, his entire body coiling like a loaded spring.

"It's fucking time I start living up to the name!"

Even as the world around him stood still—caught in a fragment of a second—Superman moved. His body surged forward at super speed, breaking free from the frozen moment, his form blurring into streaks of imperceptible movements.
