Chapter 47 - Working for Zhewen 3

Liu Ruyue chuckled, her eyes sparkling. "I told him to participate in the selection, but he refused. He even claimed he didn't ask for your help."

Chen Qingyan spread her hands in a gesture of helplessness, a slight smile playing on her lips, tinged with a hint of resignation. "Chairman Liu, he really didn't ask me for help. I'm just bothered by the inaction of the town's police station. As for him, I've worked with him for a while, and he's also studied law. He's an upright person, so I wanted to ask you to let him go."

Liu Ruyue smiled lightly, a hint of slyness flashing in her eyes as she changed the subject. "Secretary Chen, I haven't thanked you for the last matter. I didn't expect you to be able to get someone from the province to change Chairman Wang's schedule. I'm truly impressed."

Chen Qingyan was slightly stunned, then gave a self-deprecating smile. "Oh, that matter... it wasn't really getting them to do anything, just good luck, I guess." She thought to herself, It was still my cousin who used her body in exchange for it, but she couldn't say that out loud.

Liu Ruyue looked at Chen Qingyan, her eyes filled with a hint of scrutiny. "Secretary Chen, actually, I was planning to use Sun Zhewen, too. But since you've already given him a better opportunity for development, I won't stand in your way. You can submit the application."

Chen Qingyan's heart finally relaxed upon hearing this, and she gave a grateful smile. "Thank you, Chairman Liu. I won't bother you any longer. Goodbye."

Liu Ruyue watched Chen Qingyan leave, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She secretly gritted her teeth. So, Sun Zhewen, you're the one. I gave you several chances, and you didn't want them. Turns out you let your former boss help you. Humph, you haven't been transferred yet, have you? Let's see how I deal with you. A cold smile crept onto her lips as she picked up the phone and dialed Sun Zhewen's number directly.

On the other end of the line, Sun Zhewen was busy in his office. Suddenly, the phone rang. Seeing that it was Liu Ruyue calling, his heart tightened, and he quickly answered the phone. "Chairman Liu, what can I do for you?"

Liu Ruyue's voice was laced with coldness: "You, come to my office."

Sun Zhewen hung up the phone, his heart pounding, unsure what new trouble Liu Ruyue was brewing. He took a deep breath, straightened his collar, and strode towards Liu Ruyue's office. Reaching the door, he inhaled several times and knocked.

"Come in," Liu Ruyue's voice called from within, still cold.

Sun Zhewen pushed open the door and entered the office, seeing Liu Ruyue sitting behind her desk, her eyes sharp, fixed on him. Her hands were clenched on the desk, her fingertips almost digging into the wood. Sun Zhewen's heart clenched, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, but he took a deep breath, trying to look composed.

"Chairman Liu, what can I do for you?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

Liu Ruyue's face was as gloomy as a gathering storm, and her voice thundered, "Sun Zhewen, tell me, how have I treated you?"

"The Chairman has been very good to me," Sun Zhewen stammered, momentarily taken aback, but immediately realized it was probably related to Chen Qingyan. Could there be news about the transfer? Various possibilities flashed through his mind as he tried to find a suitable explanation.

Liu Ruyue sneered, her voice full of mockery, "I gave you opportunities, and you didn't take them. You turned around and went to Secretary Chen. Oh, that's right, I don't have Secretary Chen's power. I can't keep a great talent like you."

Sun Zhewen's heart pounded. He knew he had to tread carefully now, or the consequences would be dire. "Chairman, listen to me, I didn't seek out Secretary Chen," he said, trying to sound sincere, but the tension inside him made him feel like he was about to crack.

"Hmph, you didn't seek her out, but she came to me asking for you," Liu Ruyue said, her voice laced with deep distrust.

"Maybe it's because I have a good personality," Sun Zhewen tried to lighten the mood with a joke, but he knew it was a risky one.

Liu Ruyue snorted coldly, a complicated emotion flashing in her eyes. "Good personality? I haven't seen that. If you weren't married..." She trailed off, seemingly regretting what she had said.

Sun Zhewen understood the implication in her words, but he knew it wasn't the time to say anything. He could only pretend to be clueless.

Liu Ruyue asked, "You really don't know?"

"I really don't," Sun Zhewen replied firmly, knowing he had to act ignorant, or it would only make things worse.

Liu Ruyue was silent for a moment, as if weighing something. Finally, she sighed. "Hmph, I was going to let you study at the Party School, but never mind now. Secretary Chen thinks highly of you, asking the Public Security Bureau to appoint you as Deputy Director. I really misjudged you. You'll be Director Sun from now on." Her tone was laced with obvious resentment and sarcasm.

"Chairman, no matter where I go, you'll always be my former leader." Sun Zhewen quickly expressed his stance, trying to soothe Liu Ruyue's emotions.

"I don't deserve that. I'll probably be the one asking for your help in the future," Liu Ruyue replied coldly, her eyes still filled with distrust and disappointment.

"Chairman, I mean what I say." Sun Zhewen knew he had to show absolute loyalty at this moment, or Liu Ruyue's anger would only intensify.

Liu Ruyue sighed softly, as if weighing something. Her gaze wandered outside the office window for a moment before she finally spoke, "Forget it. Just follow along for these few days. You'll be transferred soon anyway, let them handle those trivial matters."

Sun Zhewen's eyes lit up, a mixture of anticipation and excitement welling up inside him. He hurriedly asked, "Where is Chairman going?"

Liu Ruyue walked to her desk, picked up a document, and flipped through it, frowning as if contemplating something. Her gaze shifted from the document to Sun Zhewen, and she replied, "We'll visit all the townships. I don't want another Jiang Mei incident to happen."

Sun Zhewen nodded, appearing calm on the surface, but feeling some confusion inside. "By the way, how is Jiang Mei now?"

Liu Ruyue raised her head, her eyes holding a trace of teasing and mockery. "I should be asking you that, and you're asking me."

Sun Zhewen scratched his head, gave an awkward smile, and a blush crept up his face. "Ah, I haven't been out, have I? I don't know the situation. If Chairman Wang assigns me, I'll definitely stick to it like glue."

Liu Ruyue watched his exaggerated movements and couldn't help but laugh. "Stand at attention. Tomorrow, you're coming with me to Linshui Town. We're going to visit all the villages."

Sun Zhewen immediately stood up straight, saluted, and spoke in a loud voice, "Yes, ma'am! I'll be ready first thing tomorrow. I await your arrival."

Liu Ruyue shook her head helplessly, a smile spreading across her lips. "Get lost."

Sun Zhewen replied with a grin, "Right away!"
