Chapter 131 - The One Who Says No

Someone always has to say no.

Not loudly.Not heroically.

Just once.And mean it.

No one spoke.

The proposal lay on the table like a gift no one wanted to touch.

Yan Ming broke the silence first.

"If we don't accept this," he said carefully,"the fatigue will continue."

"Yes," Lian Hong replied.

Su Qingyue added quietly,"And people will blame whoever stops it."

Lian Hong nodded.

"I know."

Zhou Shan swallowed.

"THEN WHY—"

Lian Hong looked at them.

"If I say no," he said,"this doesn't get easier."

"No relief."

"No applause."

"No clean ending."

Yan Ming understood immediately.

"You become the obstruction."

"Yes."

"The reason everyone stays tired."

"Yes."

Su Qingyue met his eyes.

"And the target."

"Yes."

Lian Hong turned back to the proposal.

"This ends responsibility by hiding it."

"It creates a place where mistakes go to die quietly."

"And when they return," he continued,"no one will remember who chose it."

Silence followed.

That was the lie.

Not speed.

Not efficiency.

Amnesia.

Yan Ming spoke slowly.

"If we vote, you might still lose."

"I know," Lian Hong said.

Su Qingyue frowned.

"And if you force it,you become what you're trying to prevent."

"Yes."

Zhou Shan whispered:

"THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE—"

"It's necessary," Lian Hong replied.

Lian Hong stood.

Not to command.

To withdraw consent.

"I will not participate," he said calmly,"in any structure that centralizes final judgment."

The words landed.

He continued.

"I won't obstruct you."

"I won't sabotage this."

"But I won't legitimize it."

Yan Ming closed his eyes.

"That's worse than opposition."

"Yes," Lian Hong said."Because it leaves you with the choice."

Some looked relieved.

Others angry.

A few frightened.

One councilor spoke sharply.

"So you'll let this drag on?"

Lian Hong met his gaze.

"No."

"I'll let it continue."

There was a difference.

A Watcher paused.

"…Carrier declines convergence."

Another replied:

"Effect?"

"System remains distributed."

"…Risk?"

"High."

Amber flickered.

But did not turn.

The masked figure went still.

"…He refused the ending."

A pause.

"That's rare."

He tilted his head.

"And dangerous."

The proposal did not pass.

Not formally rejected.

But stalled.

Without Lian Hong's participation,no one wanted to own it.

Meetings adjourned.

Decisions deferred.

Fatigue remained.

But something else returned.

Choice.

That night,Lian Hong sat alone.

No fracture pulsed urgently.

No visions came.

Just quiet.

Su Qingyue joined him.

"They'll hate you for this."

"Yes," he said.

"And thank you later," she added.

"Maybe," Lian Hong replied.

The countdown continued.

Shorter now.

Sharper.

But the easy end was gone.

Replaced by something harder.

Endurance.

And the system, denied relief, had to face itself.

No banners fell.

No world changed.

But a word had been spoken.

And not taken back.

In systems like this, that mattered more than victory.

Because someone had said no.

And meant it.
