Chapter 23 - Sometimes, innate talent isn't everything; sacrifice is also necessary

Three days after the incident, Young Yoo-jung was in the apartment he had rented when he arrived in Selzin City.

He was seething with anger. His gaze was fixed on his wrists, which bore two tattoos. One, on his right hand, resembled a shield, symbolizing Gu the Jade Sage. The other, on his left, was a tattoo of a sleeping dragon, representing Gu the Lazy Dragon.

He was considered a Level 6 Gu Master. He had begun his journey to becoming an invincible being, but he had lost to Arkad Kethali, who was the same age (283 years old) but far superior in both rank and talent. Arkad Kethali's talent was enhanced by the blessing of that being. It was impossible to compare Arkad's talent, enhanced by the power of a blessing, with a natural talent. The difference between their talents was like the difference between the earth and the sky.

A sigh escaped Young Yoo-jung's lips as he looked up at the ceiling of his room.

"Haaaaaah! After all this effort and sacrifice I made, even going so far as to choose a path..." "The demonic one, abandoning all morals and laws, suffered a humiliating defeat. I didn't launch a single attack against Arcade."

"Even so, I don't regret the path I chose. I don't regret what I've done or what I will do in the future. The sacrifices made for the goal I pursue are insignificant."

He sighed deeply, clearing his scattered thoughts, to organize his next steps.

"First, I must find a Gu of Energy to raise the Qi level in my Primal Sea to perfection."

"Second, I must find a Rank 5 Black Phoenix Gu and several other resources: a Sacred Sun Flower, a thousand-year-old Dragon's Claws, 20 kilograms of Forgotten Kingdom Gold, a two-hundred-year-old Dwarf's Blood, and a Rank 5 Lucky Gu."

He wrote everything he wanted to gather on light brown papyrus, rolled it up, and placed it in his bag, a satisfied smile playing at the corner of his lips.

"The Gu of Divine Purity will be in my hands, whether you like it or not." "I refuse."

He then set out from Selzin City in search of his goal. It was a long journey of forty years. He was 323 years old, yet he still retained his youthful appearance.

During this journey, his strength and prestige had increased. His hair, which had once not reached his neck, now reached his waist.

During this journey, he learned several sciences, including the history of reading ancient inscriptions and matrices, all the languages of the ancient and modern world, and the complex methods, recipes, and formulas for creating pill potions and fusion Gu. At the same time, he had reached the peak power of a Level 6 Gu Master and acquired all the resources he needed to perform the process. However, he did not want to take any risks, so he had raised a young female angel to perform the process in his place, even at the age of 33.

"Then I must focus my consciousness and throw resources towards the Gu that are fusion."

"Yes, you are right."

The angel was named Young Zui Yu. This was her first time performing this process. The reason Young Yu Jung did this was that he did not want her to die or To be injured before she needed it most.

Yung had allowed her to refine the Lazy Dragon Gu, the Black Phoenix Gu, and the Fortune Gu a year before she and they had to get used to it.

Zoe Yu murmured in a soft, beautiful voice, full of innocence. Angels possessed a kindness and gentleness beyond imagination, especially towards those they cared for, and Zoe Yu was the prime example.

"Fusion."

The Lazy Dragon Gu and the Black Phoenix Gu sprang forth from her palms as she murmured softly, summoning the Fortune Gu.

"Fortune Gu."

Chi sprang from her Primal Sea toward the Fortune Gu, which was shaped like a four-leaf clover made of jade.

A basketball-sized, glowing sphere, black representing the Lazy Dragon Gu, and a gentle red light representing the Black Phoenix Gu, began to form.

Sweat poured from her body. Maintaining consciousness was a struggle to prevent the fusion from stopping, to expend resources, and to avoid the constant depletion of the Fortune Gu, which was operating at full capacity. Her Limits

She began by throwing the Sacred Sun Flower, which resembled a sunflower, and the thousand-year-old dragon's claws. As soon as they entered a giant energy sphere, they began to shrink at breakneck speed within that sphere of dark and red energy. She then threw the last two essential components: 20 kilograms of gold from a forgotten kingdom and the blood of a two-hundred-year-old dwarf. This caused the sphere to shrink to the size of a handball. She sighed deeply as sweat poured from her slender body. Her body trembled slightly, but she didn't stop.

"Just a little longer."

She began throwing high-level Spirit Stones, which glowed with a light golden energy, one after another: 5... 10... 100... 400.

She threw 400 Spirit Stones at the sphere, which became luminous with a dark red glow. Its size shrank to the size of a baby's fist before it stopped shrinking.

A cold smile appeared on Young Yoo-jung's lips as He looked towards a glowing orb, a sign of his successful operation.

Seconds passed before a sixth-rank Gu, of divine purity, appeared. He resembled a tiny fairy, almost a luminous firefly.

He had milky-white skin, light green hair, and bright golden eyes.

At Zoe Yu's, blood began to gush from her eyes and mouth. Her face was milky-white, and her cheeks were as red as tomatoes, making you want to pinch them. She was incredibly pale, and her pallor would only increase with each passing second.

She began coughing up a great deal of blood while her thin body trembled violently.

"Cough, cough, cough. Is this normal, Father?"

Her voice was weak and almost inaudible. Her once beautiful and delicate voice had become broken and weak. Her milky-white skin had turned ashen, like a mummy's. Her skin had wrinkled, making her look like a very old woman. She turned towards Young Yoo-jung, whom she considered her father, her support, her everything. In her short life of 33 years, a person who dies at 300 is considered a child, let alone a girl who dies at only 33. Every situation is cruel.

She crawled towards Young Yoo-jung and laid her head on his chest, hoping to find paternal tenderness and affection. But she found him cold and hard, as if he were made of flint. In that moment, she realized something she refused to accept.

In her eyes, Young Yoo-jung had been a savior angel who had rescued her when she was just a five-year-old child. She couldn't accept being treated as merely a tool he used and then discarded.

"Father, you won't abandon me, will you? You still need me. I'm still useful, aren't I?"

Her voice was very weak, and tears streamed from his light green eyes, like two precious jewels. But she received no response. His expression was cold; he didn't look at her. In his eyes, her life or death no longer mattered. Using the Luck Gu at full power for a short time drained a person's lifespan of five years every fifty seconds, and its use lasted more than fifteen minutes. She had already lost over 900 years of her life. She only had two hours left to live. Although the Luck Gu granted a significant increase in luck, nothing came for free; it drained the user's life energy and years.

"Just say something, please. Just speak. Answer me. Were you just a guinea pig for me to melt down? Is that all I meant to you?"

Her voice was incredibly weak, its weakness amplified by the burning pain in her heart and the tears that streamed down her face. Her love for Young Yoo-jung, whom she considered her father, was beyond words.

"Yes, that's true. And I was also the reason your parents died 28 years ago. I knew that the Luck Gu drained the user's energy and lifespan, which is why I made you use it."

Her gaze shifted Zoe Yu, shocked, stopped crying and moved away from him, which caused her to collapse to the ground, severely injured on her head. Her skin had become paler and more wrinkled; she had lost weight, transforming from a beautiful young woman into an ugly skeleton. The bones of her body were visible through her skin, which had turned pale and brown after being milky white. She couldn't say anything as she lost consciousness due to blood loss. The Gu of Luck had slipped from her grasp, trying to escape, but Young Yoo Jung caught it and put it in his pocket, then took hold of the Gu of Divine Purity.

This Gu was incredibly powerful; it could manipulate the Law of Life, granting its wielder the ability to prevent any harm that would affect their life or lifespan. Therefore, it negated the damage of the Gu of Luck, which drained the life force and lifespan of its user, and granted them the ability to absorb the life force of other creatures.

He then left the dilapidated hut, and a man with long white hair reaching his lower back appeared, wearing a loose white robe that covered his hands and His legs were completely covered by a snow-white mask of simple design. It bore three phrases: "Kill, kill," "Torture, be tortured," and "Have mercy, receive mercy." Each was written in a different color. "Kill, kill" was in red, symbolizing the blood spilled in murder. "Torture, be tortured" was in purple, signifying fear, terror, and pain during torture. "Have mercy, receive mercy" was in a white gold, representing life, purity, forgiveness, and peace. The gold symbolized the preciousness of a life taken, while the white represented peace and security. This is why there were two colors in the phrase "Have mercy, receive mercy."

The face of this young man, who was 1.85 meters tall, exuded strength and mystery. His gaze was fixed on Zoe Yoo, who was on the verge of perishing.

"Human relationships are built under the guise of kinship, friendship, partnership, love, clan, tribe, hatred, revenge, and enmity. These are things humans created because they didn't want unity and isolation. Yet, these relationships are like continental plates, sometimes converging, sometimes diverging, but ultimately colliding. Under the guise of mutual benefit or exploitation, they separate, heading down a path of extinction."

His tone was calm and indifferent to the flames that began to engulf the hut. He left the place, which had become a hearth.

A few minutes earlier, outside the house, Young Yoo-jung held a burning stick, which he threw toward the hut.

The sound of burning logs grew louder and louder; the fire reached great heights.

Young Yoo-jung's gaze was fixed on the burning hut, his expression cold and devoid of emotion.

This was the law of the world: either exploit or be exploited. A place for pure kindness in this world where only cruelty and power remain.

After several minutes, the hut was reduced to ashes, nothing but ash remaining.

He then headed towards the rubble, his blue eyes carefully searching through it. He noticed a faint gleam and moved towards it, waving his hand and pushing aside planks and coal crumbling to dust. He found a pendant with a small, ornate egg-shaped box made of white gold, containing photographs. It was placed around the neck of a skeleton. He removed it without breaking a bone. There were some signs of doubt, as he noticed that the bones were slightly longer by a few millimeters, barely noticeable, but he ignored it. We think he misjudged Zoe Yu's height and left without showing any intention of returning.

Days and years passed. Young Yu Jung was 350 years old. In those years, he had traveled through every world in existence and caused countless crimes and disasters across all five worlds, thanks to the Divine Purity Gu. He devoured the life force of creatures of various races and ethnicities. His title during this time was the Venerable Great Demon.

He fought and killed many elites, consuming their life force and deepening his own refinement. Over 140 years, he committed numerous immoral acts, killing, torturing, and assaulting women. He conducted experiments on humans and other beings, including elves, demons, half-humans, and even orcs and ghouls.

When Yong Yoo-jung was 654 years old, he had reached the peak of a Rank 7 Go Master. His worldview had drastically changed; it was no longer for the better, but for the worse. He now saw the world in stark terms: the strong lived, and the weak died. This was an unyielding law. His crimes were even more brutal. He instigated wars that lasted for years, exploiting them to steal life force from people without fear of reprisal, conducting experiments under the guise of science. His victims numbered five million.

Meanwhile, Yong Yoo Jung was wandering when he came across a wandering warrior with a powerful and imposing presence. He had a strong physique, bleached golden hair, and pale golden eyes. He wore black mercenary clothing, but it was luxurious, and two swords were strapped to his waist. He looked at Jung with eyes as sharp as sword blades. Beads of sweat appeared on Jung's face as he looked at him.

"So, you're Daniel de Molière, also known as the Demon Slayer."

"Heh, very good. I wanted to challenge you anyway."

Daniel's gaze was sharp, and his expression didn't change even after Jung's jeering. He drew his swords from his waistbands without sheathing them and threw them to the ground.

Jung's face was a mixture of shock and anger. He understood. What did Daniel mean by that gesture?

He was mocking him to the point of fighting him with his bare hands, unarmed, using only his body.

"Are you making fun of me?"

Yung Yoo-jung's face contorted with rage. Daniel's actions were, in his eyes, an insult to his pride and honor.

But Daniel de Moulière was indifferent to his anger or appeasement.

He assumed a fighting stance, his right hand in front, forming a fist, and his left hand behind him in the same position. His right and left legs were positioned to match his hands, creating a solid center of gravity.

Yung Yoo-jung's expression turned mocking as he looked at Daniel. He was confident of victory. After obtaining the Gu of Energy, his Qi in the Primal Sea reached 100% at the level of perfection. Furthermore, he possessed the Divine Purity Gu, which granted him the power to absorb and manipulate life, albeit in a limited way, and store it.

Yung Yoo-jung's physical strength was far superior to that of a Gu Master of the same level. He could even defeat... They are at a lower level 8, which is easy for average players, but they will find it difficult to defeat those at the peak, even impossible, when fighting level 9 Gu Masters, especially if they are elite Gu Masters who have received a blessing.

There were two Gu Master families who had received a blessing from a mysterious entity: one called Qiang, and the other, the Yao family.

Yong Yu-jung poured Primal Qi onto both the Fortune Gu, which consumes 1% of the Qi currently in the Primal Sea, and the Shadow Steps, which also consumes only 1%. He also poured on the Blue Moon Gu, which was shaped like a blue butterfly with diamond wings. This Level 5 Gu was firing sharp blades like swords and was also consuming 1%.

Daniel de Molière's expression remained unchanged and indifferent to what Yong Yu-jung was doing.

"Are you finished? It's been a long time. Are you really a peak Level 7 Gu Master?"

Daniel's tone was full of boredom and indifference, which angered Yong Yu-jung.

He shot towards him at the speed of light, but Daniel was ready for him. The moment he moved His right arm moved very slowly, then moved freely.

A fisthole appeared on Young Yoo-jung's right chest, breaking several ribs and lungs, and another in his abdomen near his waist. A faint hissing sound erupted as the flesh of his left kidney and some of his large and small intestines were shattered. He immediately collapsed to the ground, his face showing signs of shock. Warm blood flowed from his mouth as he muttered incomprehensibly,

"How did this happen?"

He then fell unconscious, unable to breathe.

Daniel de Moulière looked at him lying on the ground like the carcass of a dead animal, his expression cold and devoid of any sympathy. He picked up his swords, returned them to their places, and left. Daniel de Moulière harbored hatred for Young Yoo-jung because of his past actions, but he was merciful, which is why his attacks targeted non-vital areas: the right chest and waist.

Three hours after that incident, a dark red energy surrounded Young Yoo-jung's body. The vision faded away, and then Young Yoo-jung awoke.

He rose from the ground, his condition pitiful. His face was covered in dirt and blood, his hair stained with blood, dirt, and tree branches. He headed towards the village where he currently resided, leaving behind two pools of blood that bore witness to his humiliating defeat.

He stopped, raising his head towards the sky.

"Aaa ... Fifty percent of Chi was in his Primal Sea, and he'd lost a lot of blood after his injury. His velvet robe was soaked with blood and dirt; his condition was truly pitiful.

Upon arriving at the village where he was temporarily staying, he turned to face the people. Laughter and murmurs erupted throughout the village. News of his humiliating defeat against Daniel de Molière had spread like wildfire.

The sounds of laughter and mockery reached his ears. Although they were hushed behind his back, he could hear them clearly, but he was powerless to do anything. He was utterly exhausted, unable to lift a finger, let alone fight, especially if they united against him. He would be in a very difficult position. Nevertheless, he vowed to wipe out all the inhabitants of the village by noon the following day.
