Chapter 46 - Chapter 46

Marvis's POV

I wasn't planning on waking up early. But my phone wouldn't stop ringing.

"Sir," my assistant's voice came through. "I thought I should remind you… it's Melody's birthday today."

I sat up slowly. Her birthday? I didn't even know.

My chest tightened. After everything that had happened between us… after the silence and distance… I didn't even know today was her special day.

"Where is she?" I asked.

"We haven't tracked her since she left the apartment a few days ago," he replied. "But… I can try."

I ended the call and stared at the ceiling.

A gift? No.

I didn't want to just send something. I wanted to do something that mattered. Something that would make her eyes light up the way they used to.

And then I remembered something.

That name. Marc.

She had whispered it once in her sleep when she was recovering. I didn't ask her then. But I remembered. Marc.

Her twin.

The one she never knew existed until recently.

The one she hadn't even told me about but I could feel it in her voice, her silence, and her pain.

I picked up my phone and called in a favor. A big one.

"Find him," I said. "Marc Quinn. Stolen at six months old. Start from the old neighborhood. I don't care how long it takes. I want answers before sunset."

The man on the other end didn't ask why. He just got to work.

I got dressed. Not in my usual black. I wore something light. Gray suit, white shirt. Melody always said I looked softer in white.

The minutes felt like hours.

By late afternoon, my phone buzzed.

"We found someone," the voice said. "Name's Marcus Quinn now. Same birthdate. Same hospital. Adopted out secretly. No legal trace, but the DNA… it's a match."

I froze.

"Bring him to me."

The small party had already started when I arrived.

It was quiet. Just a few people Melody trusted…Stella, Drex, even her professor from law school. They had all decorated the rooftop of a small café. Nothing loud. Just soft music, string lights, and cake.

Melody stood near the railing, dressed in a pale blue gown. She looked beautiful. But her smile was tired.

Like something was missing.

I stepped in slowly. She saw me. Our eyes met.

She didn't run. She didn't smile either. Just silence.

I cleared my throat. "Can I speak to you… for a second?"

She hesitated. Then followed. We stood away from the others. I reached into my pocket.

"Before you say anything," I said quietly, "I wanted to give you something."

She narrowed her eyes.

"I don't want anything…"

I motioned behind her. A young man walked in. He looked just like her.

Same eyes. Same mouth. Same face. Just the male version.

Melody's breath caught.

She turned around slowly, staring at him.

He stood still, confused, nervous.

Then he spoke. "Melody?"

Her name. From his lips. Tears rushed to her eyes.

"Marc?" she whispered.

He nodded.

"I don't remember much," he said, his voice cracking. "But… I've been searching for my real family. And… Marvis said… you were my sister."

Melody covered her mouth. She couldn't breathe.

She stepped forward, unsure, then ran.

They hugged. Tightly.

Longer than words could hold.

Everyone around clapped softly. Stella cried in the corner. Even Drex looked emotional.

I stood back and watched. I didn't need to say anything.

This was the gift. Her family. Her truth. Her missing piece.

Later that night, Melody came to me. Her eyes were red from crying, but her smile had returned.

"I don't know how to thank you," she said.

"You don't need to," I replied.

"But… how did you even know?"

I gave a small shrug. "I pay attention. Even when you think I don't."

She nodded slowly.

For a moment, it felt like the distance between us faded. Just a little.

"Happy birthday, Melody."

She smiled.

And whispered, "Thank you, Marvis."
