Chapter 1 - ch0

# Prologue

'Ah, this is a problem.'

Seo Woojin scratched his head and glanced around at the people nearby.

"Hey, jackpot! I got an A-rank aptitude!"

"Really? I only got C-rank..."

Even from a distance, he could hear the excited voices buzzing in his ears.

'Hmm, this is a problem.'

Seo Woojin's expression darkened.

"What did you guys get?"

"What about you? Did you get something good?"

Amid the chatter, a burst of loud excitement drew everyone's eyes naturally in that direction.

'Whoa.'

Five students with stunning looks that put everyone else to shame caught his attention. They looked about high school age and stood out head and shoulders above the hundred people gathered here.

They seemed to know each other well, chatting closely like old friends.

"I got 'Extreme Flame Mage.' That's S-rank aptitude. Pretty awesome, right?"

"Looks solid. I got S-rank 'Diamond Warrior' too."

The guy who had been hyping his A-rank earlier was impressive enough, but he paled in comparison.

From what Seo Woojin had heard, there was an insurmountable gap between A-rank and S-rank aptitudes.

"M-Me? 'Dragon Tamer'..."

"You're S-rank too?"

"Y-Yeah."

"Isn't that the one where you raise dragons as pets later on?"

"...I hope so."

The short-haired girl answered timidly, but her face betrayed unmistakable anticipation.

"Seong Yura, what about you?"

"'Saintess Candidate'?"

"Pfft! If you're a saintess, just say saintess. What's a 'candidate'?"

Seong Yura scowled at her friends' teasing.

"Hey! It's still SS-rank! I'm higher than all you guys!"

Her sharp retort startled her friends.

They weren't deaf.

Excluding themselves, no one here had an S-rank job aptitude.

The highest was A-rank, and even that was rare—most were lower.

They'd been feeling smug and superior inside, but then SS-rank popped up out of nowhere.

Her teasing friends shut their mouths and shot her envious looks.

"Hey, you're the last one. What'd you get?"

Was the attention making her uncomfortable?

Seong Yura turned the question to the friend who hadn't revealed his aptitude yet, changing the mood.

Four pairs of eyes turned to him.

The guy who subtly stood at the center of the group gave an awkward smile as he answered.

"'Sword God.'"

It was a simple name for a job aptitude.

But the weight it carried wasn't light by any means.

It had the word 'God' in it, after all.

"What's the rank?"

Just from the name 'Sword God,' it seemed at least as high as theirs, if not higher.

And their guess hit the mark.

"SSS-rank."

"...For real?"

"Whoa, insane."

His friends gaped, unable to respond.

The people eavesdropping nearby sent envious glances too.

Their starting lines were worlds apart, so the jealousy was understandable.

Seo Woojin had the same reaction.

No, he sighed even more heavily, as if bearing the world's sorrows.

'This is seriously a problem. I might be in deep shit.'

Seo Woojin checked his 'status window' again with gloomy eyes.

====================

■ Name: Seo Woojin

■ Job Aptitude: Demon King [Immeasurable]

■ Level: 1

■ Skill: ??? [Passive]

====================

It looked extraordinary at a glance.

Job aptitude: 'Demon King,' rank: 'Immeasurable.'

There was no way it could be ordinary.

But Seo Woojin didn't look happy at all.

He looked up, and a massive banner hanging in front of him came into view.

『Welcome, heroes from another world, who answered the summon to stop the 8th Demon King Invasion.』

Something sparkled in Seo Woojin's eyes as it trickled down.

"Ah, I'm screwed."
