Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 Cries in Darkness

Veronica's POV

The hours dragged by endlessly as I found myself fast-forwarding through the recorded footage from Joseph's kindergarten day. Children's laughter echoed through the speakers, teachers called out instructions, and occasionally someone would shout my son's name. Yet as I watched, tears began streaming down my cheeks uncontrollably.

The silence surrounding my son felt crushing.

I could hear every other child laughing and yelling, but never my own boy. The cruel taunts labeling Joseph as "the mute kid," especially those nasty comments from Winnie's son, sliced through my heart like knives. My thoughts spiraled as I imagined what Joseph must endure daily—trapped without words, unable to defend himself, becoming everyone else's target.

The thought was unbearable. What must it feel like for a small child to have no voice when he needs it most?

He must feel so isolated, so powerless.
