I climbed the stairs to Veronica's former room. Her jewelry, clothes, and bags remained scattered everywhere, completely untouched. When she walked out, she hadn't taken a single thing with her.
Was she really abandoning everything?
Hadn't she claimed she wanted to marry into the Nelson family for money and status?
Then why leave behind all these expensive items? It made no sense.
I picked up a lace nightgown from the bed, running my fingers across the delicate fabric. What was this supposed to prove? Did she deliberately leave behind something this provocative as some kind of message? Please. Cheap tactics like that wouldn't fool me.
I searched the room for any photos of her but found nothing. Moving to my study, I opened my laptop and typed in Veronica's name, looking for recent news about her. But the search came up empty.
That couldn't be right. Veronica had been all over the headlines recently—especially after attacking Winnie.
