Veronica's POV
Dawn broke at last.
Word about the venomous snake that had slithered into Nelson Manor during the night traveled fast.
Bonita rushed over with several maids, all of them gasping when they spotted the massive dead serpent.
"Dear lord! How did this thing get in here?"
"Anyone who got bit by that would be a goner!"
"Lucky Veronica had the guts to take it down. Can't imagine what would've happened otherwise!"
While they chattered nervously, I watched each face carefully. Then I made my move.
"I'm stringing this snake up in the main hallway outside. When Cecile shows up, she'll spot it right away and demand answers. Won't take long to track down whoever's responsible."
The staff bobbed their heads at my plan. I got the snake hung up in the outer corridor and warned everyone to keep their hands off it - no point risking poison exposure.
With that sorted, I headed to the kitchen to fix breakfast. Once everything was ready, I fed both Leonardo and Joseph.
