The moment Ximena and Ezekiel disappeared from the cafeteria together, every single person at Willowville High leaned forward like they were witnessing the social event of the century. The collective intake of breath was almost audible across the room. Around here, gossip spread faster than wildfire, especially when it involved the star quarterback's twin and the football team's prince.
Seriously, our school's rumor mill could put social media to shame.
Ximena held her head high, though I caught the nervous energy radiating from her posture. Whatever Ezekiel whispered to her, she stood her ground instead of retreating. That was different. That was growth. Still, I wished their intense conversation wasn't happening in full view of every eavesdropping student in the building.
