Chapter 2 - Food from Another World

After thinking it over repeatedly, Furina's curiosity finally defeated her worry. She was simply too curious about another world.

A moment later, Lin Xuan felt a wave of warmth coming from the center of his palm.

Handshaking, everyone—I'm shaking hands with Furina!

Before Lin Xuan could savor the moment, the two of them were transported back by the system.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for successfully inviting Furina!]

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a first-invitation gift pack!]

Lin Xuan didn't expect the system to be so considerate—actually giving him a gift pack.

But now wasn't the time to open it, because properly receiving Lady Furina was the top priority.

Originally, Lin Xuan wanted to welcome Furina enthusiastically, but he was immediately struck down by her words.

"Lin Xuan, the place you live in is way too shabby. Doesn't it leak when it rains?"

"The environment is already bad enough, but the lighting and ventilation are this terrible too? Living here won't make you sick?"

Furina walked around the room, constantly complaining about Lin Xuan's rental place.

Lin Xuan looked defeated. I don't want to live here either!

But he had no money. No money meant he could only stay in this run-down place.

With a sigh, Lin Xuan grabbed a bottle of juice from the fridge and handed it to Furina.

"Sigh, just bear with it. Even this dump costs me over a thousand every month."

Furina didn't continue fussing about the house.

She took the juice from Lin Xuan and took a small sip.

Her eyes lit up with surprise. "Wow, this juice tastes amazing! Completely different from what I drink in Fontaine!"

"Mm… well, it has technology and hen huo added in. Of course it's different."

"What are 'technology and hen huo'? Are they special ingredients?"

Lin Xuan didn't explain—he was afraid she wouldn't drink it if he did.

Furina was extremely interested in this brand-new world, wandering around the room.

Soon she arrived in front of Lin Xuan's burnt laptop, sniffing with her small nose.

"Eh? What's this? It smells like something's burnt."

Lin Xuan wanted to cry. "Take out the 'like' part."

Furina immediately lost interest and planned to enter Lin Xuan's bedroom.

Lin Xuan suddenly remembered that his bedroom was a complete mess, and there were also things she couldn't see, so he quickly stopped her.

Furina was displeased. "Why are you so stingy? You invited me here, and I can't even take a look?"

"Well, it's not that I don't want you to. Mainly because…"

Just as Lin Xuan was thinking of an excuse, a loud, urgent knock suddenly sounded.

Immediately afterward, a harsh voice yelled, "Lin Xuan! Open the door!"

"You don't pay your rent, fine—but you dare burn my house?!"

"Don't play dead in there! I saw smoke coming out!"

Cold sweat ran down Lin Xuan's back. He'd completely forgotten about this.

Feeling guilty, he didn't dare say a word, afraid the landlady would kick him out.

Sigh… under someone else's roof, you just have to bow your head.

But Furina reacted completely differently from Lin Xuan.

"This person is way too annoying. Who burned her house? Let me talk some sense into her!"

Furina strode toward the door, ready to open it.

Lin Xuan was so frightened he quickly grabbed her.

But Furina was as strong as eight oxen—her strength was ridiculous.

In desperation, Lin Xuan had no choice but to pounce forward, accidentally pushing Furina to the floor.

Seeing she was about to speak, Lin Xuan quickly covered her mouth.

Furina wanted to struggle, but she was afraid she might accidentally kill Lin Xuan—after all, he was just a normal human…

"Mmmph… mm…"

As time passed, Furina gradually gave up resisting.

"Strange… is he really not home?"

"Fine, I'll come back tomorrow. I don't believe he won't leave the house!"

After knocking for more than a full minute with no response, the landlady grumbled angrily and left.

Lin Xuan never imagined that his first close contact with Furina would be under circumstances like this.

Her blue eyes were unbelievably pure—clear like the ocean, so beautiful one could hardly breathe.

Realizing what happened, Furina shoved Lin Xuan away and stood up, patting her clothes.

"Hey! You're way too rude. How dare you treat me like that!"

"And your courage was ridiculous—why were you scared of her?"

Lin Xuan scratched his head. "I just lost my job and have no money for rent. Taking a step back keeps things peaceful."

Hearing this, Furina placed her hands behind her back and circled Lin Xuan twice.

"Sigh, I didn't expect your life to be this miserable—worse than mine…"

"Ahem, I mean, worse than my life used to be. After all, I'm Fontaine's most famous superstar."

Lin Xuan rolled his eyes internally. You only live slightly better than me.

What kind of superstar eats macaroni every day?

"Grrrr~"

Right then, Furina's stomach let out a very uncooperative growl.

Before Lin Xuan could ask, she immediately tried to explain.

"Don't misunderstand! It's not what you think—I'm not hungry. I just…"

Her eyes flicked around, and she came up with a convenient excuse.

"I just ate too much! My stomach is digesting. Yes, that must be it!"

Lin Xuan couldn't help but laugh. This was the very definition of "there are no 300 taels of silver buried here."

"Aiya, after a long day, I should eat something too."

He didn't expose her, instead heading to the kitchen.

As someone working corporate slavery, Lin Xuan rarely had the time or energy to cook—most of the time, he simply boiled some noodles to get by.

He poured water, lit the stove, and cooked the noodles with practiced ease—so familiar it was heartbreaking.

Everyone knows: the soul of instant noodles is the seasoning packet.

After adding the seasoning, the ordinary noodles instantly became appetizing and fragrant.

"W-What kind of noodles are these?"

Furina's beautiful eyes widened in shock. She didn't expect such cuisine to exist in another world!

Just the smell made her mouth water—how delicious must it be when eaten?

Lin Xuan placed the instant noodles onto the table but didn't rush to eat.

Instead, he inhaled deeply and said in an exaggerated tone, "Mmm~ it smells so good. Alright, time for me to dig in!"

Furina's mouth opened slightly as she watched Lin Xuan lift the noodles with his chopsticks, unable to even blink.

"Wait!"

Seeing that Lin Xuan was about to eat, Furina immediately stopped him.

Lin Xuan looked surprised. "What is it, Furina? Aren't you 'digesting' because you ate too much?"

"But… but as the guest, I should be properly treated!"

"It's not that I really want to eat it, but… someone as hard to invite as me—you shouldn't feel disappointed on a date."

"Mm, I'm thinking for your sake."

Lin Xuan could obviously tell Furina was anxious. He smirked inside but agreed on the surface. "Makes sense. Then, Miss Furina, would you like to try a bite?"

Without another word, Furina snatched the chopsticks from Lin Xuan.

She had to taste it—just what kind of delicacy was this!?
