Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Call

West Blue, Yangpu Bay.

On the azure sea, a large sailing ship flying the flag of the Beasts Pirates was slowly approaching the dock of an island.

As the vessel drew nearer, the workers bustling about on the dock stopped their tasks one after another, staring in terror at the massive ship. A few of the more timid ones had already quietly slipped into the warehouses, daring only to peek through the cracks in the doors. Although pirates frequently visited this island, it was the first time a major pirate crew like the Beasts Pirates had come.

"Finally, land!" Seven-year-old Enel stood by the ship's railing, shouting excitedly towards the dock below. The young boy with lightning-gold hair was the youngest member of the crew. His clear, loud voice echoed over the dock, causing several workers carrying cargo to look up.

Ever since the earth-shattering battle between Kaidou and Garp, they had been sailing through various waters of the West Blue. It had been a full twenty days since their last landfall. The long voyage had left everyone utterly exhausted, and now, setting foot on solid ground, each of them couldn't hide their excitement. The sea breeze, carrying the scent of earth, washed over them—a stark contrast to the ever-present salty, fishy odor aboard the ship.

It wasn't just Enel; the other core members on board also wore long-missing smiles. King stood on the deck, his black wings shimmering with a metallic sheen under the sunlight. He narrowed his eyes slightly, savoring the long-awaited scent of land. Bullet flexed his thick arms, joints cracking crisply, a look of satisfaction on his face. Urouge piously pressed his palms together, murmuring under his breath as if giving thanks for the safe voyage. They stood on the dock, greedily breathing in the salty sea air, feeling the long-lost sense of steadiness beneath their feet.

Queen was the only exception. The portly scientist, after procuring the necessary materials for his laboratory in the West Blue, had set up a makeshift lab on the ship. Aside from his daily fixed training sessions, he devoted almost all his time to his experimental research. At this moment, he was carefully cradling a test tube filled with a green liquid, completely oblivious to the commotion on shore. The eerie green glow from the tube reflected off his glasses, his face wearing an obsessed expression.

"Alright, King, arrange for each Executive to receive two million Berry, and regular members two hundred thousand Berry. Let everyone rest well on the island. Bullet, you arrange for people to procure supplies on the island," Kaidou commanded from the bow, his voice deep and powerful, echoing over the dock.

Since Queen had thrown himself into his research, Kaidou had gradually begun handing over many of the ship's affairs to King and Bullet. Though both were still young, the pirate world never judged heroes by age; strength was the only true measure. King's black wings gleamed with a cold light under the sun, while Bullet's robust physique exuded an undeniable sense of power.

"Long live the captain! Long live the captain!" Hearing Kaidou's words, everyone on the ship cheered joyfully. The crew began disembarking in an orderly manner, each face beaming with anticipation. In this era of scarce resources, two hundred thousand Berry was already a considerable fortune for ordinary pirates. They walked off in small groups, discussing where to go and relax.

"Captain, what about me?" Enel ran up to Kaidou at that moment, looking up as he asked. Though the youngest, this lively little guy had already shown remarkable potential. His golden hair shimmered under the sunlight, his eyes sparkling with expectation.

"Oh, interns get one hundred thousand Berry." Kaidou glanced down at Enel, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly. This expression looked particularly rare on his fierce face.

"Great! Thank you, Captain!" Enel jumped for joy, hopping around the deck like a cheerful little bird. His clear, pleasant laughter added a touch of childish innocence to the ship filled with fierce pirate atmosphere.

Amid this joyful atmosphere, a "Buru Buru Buru" sound suddenly rang out. Kaidou pulled out a peculiarly shaped small Den Den Mushi from his chest, his brow slightly furrowed. Only a handful of people knew the number of this specially made black Den Den Mushi - who could be calling? The shell of the Den Den Mushi had unique patterns, making it appear particularly mysterious.

Kaidou scanned his surroundings and addressed the Executives and crew members behind him: "Everyone is free to move about now. Remember not to cause any trouble for me on the island." His voice wasn't loud, but it carried undeniable authority. The crew immediately quieted down, nodding respectfully in acknowledgment.

Early in their voyage, Kaidou had established strict rules: unless it was a combat mission, no one was permitted to plunder or deliberately cause trouble when landing on any island. Of course, if anyone dared to provoke the Beasts Pirates, they must strike back without hesitation. As for the ship's funding source, the gold they obtained from the Land of Gold alone was enough for the entire pirate crew to squander for decades. In the future, when the Beasts Pirates established their footing in the New World, the territories they controlled would also provide substantial funds for the crew.

Actually, the original Four Emperor pirate crews basically didn't rely on plunder for survival. Rather than calling them pirate crews, it would be more accurate to describe them as warlords possessing powerful military force.

Kaidou understood this well. He didn't just want to build a powerful pirate crew - he wanted to establish his own empire. At this moment, holding the mysterious Den Den Mushi, a thoughtful glint flashed in his eyes.

The sea wind howled as Kaidou stood alone on the deck, his cloak flapping loudly. He slowly pressed the answer button on the Den Den Mushi, his deep voice echoing across the empty deck: "Hey, not many people know my Den Den Mushi number. Who are you?"

The Den Den Mushi suddenly revealed an eerie smile, emitting a sinister laugh: "Yee hee hee hee, Kaidou, do you remember me?" The Den Den Mushi's expression became distorted, its eyes narrowing to slits, its mouth curling exaggeratedly upward. This expression was enough to send chills down one's spine.

Kaidou's lips curved into a cold smile as he chuckled: "Urorororo, so it's Kurozumi Higurashi." He identified the other party without hesitation. This woman, who had served with him on the Rocks Pirates, had left a deep impression on him.

"Hehehehe, it's been a few years. Your strength has grown so much that even the Navy Hero Garp can't do anything to you." Kurozumi Higurashi's voice carried obvious flattery.

"Cut the nonsense. What do you want from me?" Kaidou interrupted her impatiently. He had always hated roundabout conversations.

"With such formidable power, yet you're still wandering around the four seas. It seems you haven't found a suitable foothold in the New World!" Kurozumi Higurashi's tone suddenly turned serious. "Kaidou, I'm here to help you."
