I rise from the bed, running my palms over the worn fabric of my oversized hoodie. The garment hangs loose on my frame, frayed at the edges from years of wear. It belonged to my father once. The night death claimed him, I cocooned myself in this piece of clothing, desperate to hold onto his lingering essence. For days afterward, I refused to remove it.
My mother eventually forced me out of it, returning the hoodie clean and sterile. His scent had vanished, but the emotional shield it provided remained intact. Even today, it serves as my armor against the world.
