Helena's POV
By the time evening shadows stretch across the pack grounds, the familiar weight settles over me again. Asher and Leo stand near the main building, deep in conversation with Joshua about pack responsibilities. Joshua never fully recovered from the plague like the others did. His strength remains diminished, making it impossible for him to continue as Beta. When Leo offered him a position on the newly formed pack council, Joshua declined. He relocated to the border areas of Shadowcrest territory, and I suspect my presence influenced his decision.
The burden of causing that sickness gnaws at my conscience, though other concerns also cloud my thoughts.
The supernatural energy coursing beneath my skin grows stronger each day. Memories from lives I never lived flash through my mind without warning. My heart tears in different directions when I consider the three men who have each claimed a piece of it.
