Leo's POV
Her scent hits me like a physical blow before she appears through the trees.
Huxley thrashes wildly in my consciousness, his desperate need clawing at my insides. His howls reverberate through my skull, each one more demanding than the last.
'Mine,' he snarls with primal fury. 'Rejection means nothing. The bond still burns between us. Feel it.'
I clench my jaw until it aches, shoving him deeper into the recesses of my mind. I've reminded him countless times that my choice was necessary. Everything pointed to her being nothing more than a disgraced Delta's offspring. The Shadowcrest Pack deserved better than damaged goods for their Luna. Even with whispers of her ancient bloodline, she might still fall short of what we need.
But when that creature emerges from the shadows cradling her against his chest, every justification I've fed myself crumbles to dust.
