The Ethereal expanse is a part of the Sylvaeria region's wildlife. The Ethereal Expanse is not merely a forest. It is a living threshold between what is and what seems to be.

At first glance, it appears like any untouched wilderness: towering ancient trees woven together in a cathedral of bark and leaf, their roots gripping the earth like the fingers of old gods. But linger a moment longer, and the forest begins to breathe differently.

The light does not fall naturally here. It filters in fractured beams, refracted as though passing through unseen prisms. Sunlight may gleam warm and golden one instant, then dissolve into silver-blue twilight without warning. Shadows move independently of their owners, stretching too far, or folding inward as though shy of being observed.

The trees themselves are not fixed. Trunks ripple faintly, as if carved from slow-moving smoke encased in wood. Leaves shimmer between solid and translucent — sometimes you can see the veins pulsing faintly with soft luminescence, like starlight trapped beneath their surface. Entire groves may rearrange when unobserved. A path once straight will curve impossibly upon return; a clearing may exist only when approached from a certain angle.

Sound behaves strangely here. Footsteps echo twice — once in the present, and once half a breath behind. The wind carries whispers that might be the rustle of foliage… or fragments of memory. Distant animal calls seem layered, as though multiple versions of the same creature exist in slightly misaligned realities.

Wildlife inhabiting the Expanse embodies this duality. Deer appear with antlers branching into faint constellations. Birds take flight in flocks, only for a few to dissolve into drifting motes of light midair. Predators move like afterimages, leaving faint silhouettes where they once stood. None of them seems fully bound to the physical plane; their eyes reflect not just the forest, but other landscapes superimposed faintly within.

Mist coils close to the forest floor, but it does not drift randomly — it pulses, synchronized with a rhythm too subtle to name. Occasionally it parts to reveal glimpses of something other: an ancient ruin that vanishes when approached, a second moon hanging low between branches, or a reflection of a sky that does not belong to this world.

The ground is soft yet uncertain. Moss glows faintly underfoot, dimming when stepped on as though aware. Pools of water reflect not what stands above them, but what once stood there — or what might.

Time in the Ethereal Expanse does not move linearly. A traveler may walk for hours and emerge moments after entering. Flowers bloom and decay within minutes. Some trees bear rings that spiral outward in impossible geometries, marking years that have not yet occurred.

What makes the forest truly ethereal is not just its beauty, nor its strangeness — but its refusal to fully commit to one reality. It is a liminal realm, constantly negotiating between material and mirage. Every object exists in a state of quiet uncertainty, as if the forest is dreaming itself into being — and might awaken at any moment to become something entirely different.

In the Ethereal Expanse, nothing is entirely solid.

Nothing is entirely illusory.

And the boundary between the two is as thin as breath.

It was in this Labyrinth of dreams, reality, and illusion that a familiar duo found themselves.

One, a red haired good looking young man with fair skin, dressed in a casual black shirt and grey slacks. He was seated, legs folded, eyes closed. Seemingly meditating.

And the other, A reddish-purple haired young man, built for war and conquest. He was very good-looking with a wild aura that increased his charm.

He wore a red T-shirt and cargo pants with combat boots. His boots echoed with a thud as he paced back and forth behind the red-haired teenager. Until it finally elicited a reaction from him.

" Haaa. Silence is a foreign concept to you isn't it Ruinôus? " He muttered with a sigh. His voice cold as ice.

The 6ft war machine froze in his tracks. Not knowing how to reply for a good minute, before finally speaking.

" My apologies, we've been here for quite some time now. And you still haven't told me what we're supposed to be doing here your Highness. " He replied calmly. Arms folded, confusion etched across his features.

" Patience Ruinôus. " Eden began, " You'll know soon enough. For now, why don't you go take care of those Lucent Veilers. " He concluded.

Finally opening his Golden eyes as he turned his gaze towards a region quite a distance away, where a pack of 5ft tall fox-like creatures with grey fur prowled silently. Or so they thought.

" Ha ha ha, finally some action. " Atticus chuckled maniacally, as he stretched a bit.

" Don't overdo it. We aren't exactly supposed to be here. And this forest isn't just a forest. " He added. Giving Atticus a knowing look.

Atticus seeing the look, replied with a nod then his figure blurred as he disappeared for a split second and appeared in the middle of the pack of 12 Lucent Veilers.

' Violet Pyre '

BOOM!!

Atticus intoned coldly, a wild grin etched across his face as he unleashed a mini wave of his violet fire. Effectively killing seven of the twelve, pushing the survivors back but not without a few injuries.

" Ah…That was a bit overkill. " He muttered to himself. Looking at the five Lucent Veilers glaring at him with gazes filled with bloodlust.

The Alpha, a black furred Fox. Seemingly gave orders to the others as they fired beams of darkness at Atticus from every direction.

The Nexarii just casually waved his hand and a ring of fire formed with him at the center, negating their attack.

" This is quite disappointing….but at least I get to blow off some steam. " He added. As he spoke a sword of purple fire formed in front of him.

The Alpha fairly intelligent, feeling the danger exuding from the sword of condensed flames decidedly made a break for it.

" One got away huh. Well, probably smarter than you lot. "

After saying this he grasped the sword and swung horizontally, releasing a huge arc of fire. Effortlessly decapitating the four poor Fox look-alikes.

Atticus let the sword disintegrate into mana particles and began walking away but he froze seeing Eden appear a few meters away from him.

" You missed one. " The red-haired teenager said dryly, tilting his head towards the runaway Veiler which appeared to have been frozen in place, mid-escape.

" As the popular saying goes. No survivors " Eden added as he casually swung his arm, coated in purple mana. Separating the head of the Alpha from its body.

" Such a perfectionist. " Atticus said teasingly.

" Whatever. Take care of the bodies. " Eden remarked dryly and started walking away.

" Yeah, yeah. " The Nexarii replied and snapped his fingers causing embers of his unique flames to come to life. Reducing the bodies to ashes.

He caught up to Eden, making sure to walk a step behind him.

" Can we finally do what we came here for and leave?, This forest gives me the creeps. "

" Haaa, sure Ruinôus, but before that. Let's see your status panel.
