Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – Tangled Threads

The whispers began the moment Bella stepped into the school courtyard. This time, they weren't subtle. Palm's laugh cut through the chatter, a sharp, deliberate sound aimed to draw attention. Bella caught fragments: "…so Leo is seeing Rose again… Bella's too slow to notice…."

Her stomach twisted, but Bella refused to let fear take control. She had learned to watch, to listen, to think before reacting. She didn't run. She didn't cry. She adjusted the strap of her bag and walked on, leaving the murmurs behind.

Leo appeared at her side, as if by instinct, his presence casual but deliberate. "Hey, Bella," he said, flashing a half-smile that was both familiar and uncertain.

Bella glanced at him carefully. "Hey," she said, her voice steady, neutral. She wanted clarity, not drama.

"Are… you okay?" His tone was softer now, almost hesitant.

Bella paused. She saw the truth in his eyes the tug-of-war between his loyalty, Palm's influence, and his own confusion. "I'm fine," she said finally. "But we need to be honest. No games."

Leo nodded, expression unreadable. "No games," he agreed.

But the damage had been done. Palm's words, subtle as they were, had shaken the foundation of trust between them. Bella could feel it in the way he hesitated, in the fleeting flicker of his gaze whenever she looked directly at him.

Meanwhile, Rose had returned. Her presence wasn't loud, but it hovered like a shadow over every glance, every interaction between Bella and Leo. She didn't speak to Bella, but Bella felt the weight of past betrayals in every subtle movement Rose made.

Yuri stayed close, offering quiet, unwavering support. "You don't have to face this alone," she whispered one afternoon, as they sat beneath the old oak tree. "They can try to twist everything, but you know who you are. Don't let them take that from you."

Bella drew in a deep breath. A small, steady flame of determination sparked within her. For the first time, she realized that surviving the tangled web of friendships, lies, and unspoken feelings wasn't about avoiding conflict it was about standing firm in her own truth.

And that truth was simple: she deserved clarity. She deserved respect. And she deserved the right to choose, without pressure, who she would let into her heart.
