Chapter 29 - The first strike

Victor's forces arrived at midday, a massive wave of rogues that looked more like an army than a band of outcasts. They gathered at The Nightshade's border, just out of arrow range, waiting.

I stood with Ezra and the other leaders on Nightshade's side, watching the enemy assemble. Even knowing they were coming, seeing them in person was terrifying. So many wolves, all vicious-looking and there, in the center of the rogue army, stood Victor Strand.

He looked exactly as I remembered, confident, cruel, and completely certain of his victory. When his eyes found me across the distance, he smiled.

"Nessa Gray!" he called out, his voice magically amplified to carry across the space between us. "The last of the Silver Moon bloodline. I've been looking for you."

"I know," I called back, surprised by how steady my voice sounded. "You murdered an entire pack looking for me. You're a coward and a monster."
