Chapter 170 - Chapter 170: Domestic Duties

Rowan slid off Owen's back; the moment his feet touched the ground, the sound of rain thundered outside.

Raindrops as big as pebbles poured down violently outside the cave, forming a white curtain of water; clearly it was daytime, yet the sky darkened as if it were night. The chill from the rain snaked into the cave entrance, carrying the strong, characteristic smell of damp earth from the tropical rainforest.

Owen quickly started a fire; the flames flared up, dispelling the cold and darkness. The light in the cave improved a bit, casting the shadows of the two people onto the rock wall. Owen's large shadow enveloped Rowan's, creating a strange but warm scene.

"There's a wind, put on another layer of animal skin to stay warm." Owen saw him dressed thinly, his hair still damp, and feared he would get cold. He solicitously took a dry, soft animal skin and handed it to him, his eyes full of concern.
