Chapter 20 - Drawing A Clear Line

ANNABELLE'S POV:

"Have you made your decision? Everyone is here now. We can make the announcement," Judas asked. His gaze warned me not to say anything other than what was expected of me.

I looked at him, stunned.

Was this his way of cornering me so I wouldn't be able to escape? It was ridiculous—but also disturbingly effective.

With everyone's eyes on us, I couldn't act rashly, or I would be deemed ungrateful.

Not that I cared anymore.

I was already the ungrateful one in the eyes of the Marudas. To them, I was nothing more than an asset that had lost most of its value, and now they wanted to squeeze out whatever little remained by marrying me off. Even an outright rejection—especially in front of everyone—wouldn't be enough to make Judas leave me alone.

He would haunt me. Manipulate me. Do anything to force the answer he wanted.

I felt trapped—suffocated—and utterly disgusted.
