This is simply my plans for the LotM volumes after some careful planning and consideration.
Volume 1 Clown
Original length, 213 chapters.
Planned length, 50-80 chapters.
Let me explain
We all know all those unnecessary descriptions of the background, or movements? I like to call them "fluff." After going through volume 1, I've estimated how much shorter volume 1 could be without the fluff. But it's still not possible to cut it by more than 50% simply from removing fluff, without having to remove some parts of the story.
But a chapter of LoM:RE will be 3.5k-5.5k words, maybe 6k, with 4k on AVERAGE. And no, I'm not just straight up chapter stacking(placing the original chapters on top each other). An lotm chapter was about 2.1k words on average. Depending on the ratio of paragraphs full of fluff to paragraphs full of actual plot progression, a 4k words chapter could condense multiple chapters.
For example:
I've already written the draft of chapter 1(it's titled "The Fool (1)" btw). Its around 4.5k words, and covers the first 5 chapters of the original, which—assuming that an LotM chapter is at least 2k words—would be 10k words if I straight up chapter-stacked.
Now that you get the gist, let's continue...
Volume 2 Faceless
Original length, 269 chapters.
Planned length, 60-75ish chapters.
I absolutely hated the pacing of this volume, and the volume as a whole.
Volume 3 Traveler
Original length, 250 chapters.
Planned length, 80-110.
Yes, the original Traveler is shorter than Faceless in chapter count, but in my version, Traveler is longer than Faceless. Faceless had so much fluff in my opinion, so many things that slowed the pacing down to extreme degrees. But Traveler is more actioned packed, and adventure filled, with pretty good pacing, but not fluff-free. Removing all the fluff, and preserving all essential plot points and action of both volumes, I believe that Traveler should be Faceless(and ill also be arranging some events here and there for plot coherence, but not anywhere near the level of the donghua, which made LoM a detective show).
Volume 4 Undying
Original length, 214 chapters.
Planned length, 50-70.
Absolutely fluff-filled, and the volume really bored me(though i truly understood why lotm is peak after the end of this volume). This volume will have the most "event rearrangement."
Volume 5 Red Priest
Original length, 204 chapters.
Planned length, 60-80 chapters.
Nothing much to say from here on, unless you ask stuff in comments.
Volume 6 Lightseeker
Original length, 116 chapters.
Planned length, 40-60 chapters.
Volume 7 Hanged Man
Original length, 87 chapters.
Planned length, 30-40 chapters.
Volume 8 The Fool
Original length, 41 chapters.
Planned length, 18 chapters.
Total
LoM- 1393 chapters(excluding the side stories).
LoM:RE- 388-533 chapter(we'll see when we get there!
