It's been about one and a half month. Although
Julie hadn't forgotten about her children kevin
and Sharon for a single second, she couldn't
really ask Albert to bring them back. Not saying it didn't matter though, she would mention every
now and then, when she would cook their favourite food or when something would fall down due
to wind or cats she would instinctively shout their names. Although she
had concluded that she won't see them any time soon, to add much to her surprise and shock,
Albert said that they were getting to their old place. The place they had called their home for
years. It wasn't a mansion as they weren't so wealthy, but they used to be rather well off.
Albert's father wasn't wealthy either; he had died when Albert was fairly young. However, he did
have a few acres of land, just enough to not die of hunger. It was Albert who started from
farming and established his business and farms. He was the one who earned the fortune
helped with his brothers tuitions, lend money to
his friends in need and so much more. Everything was going so well but once the destruction
had come with one loss, tiny loss, bit by bit it was all gone in front of his very eyes.
"God had given me and he has taken away
there's nothing to weep about, if his grace blesses me again we will have it all back and much
more"- he used to say.
However, about a week ago, Albert said that they were going back to their old place. It
was a two story house with enough space to contain a joint family of ten peoples, surrounding it
was a few yards of farmland. Two days ago, they have shifted to their home
and Albert left for the kids the other day.
He is going to bring them back home this very
morning on the train. Julie woke up early this
morning in excitement, mid night, to be exact. Mother is still sleeping, Julie starts cooking
porridge.
Early in the morning, somebody knocked at the door. She looked out the peep hole, "O good
heavens, it's Albert!" Opening the door she sees Kevin on Albert's shoulder and Sharon
grabbing on his leg's fabric. Julie hugs and kisses them over and over again.
"Don't you know how much I've missed
you!" she said. "The breakfast is ready, I've made porridge & stewed apples"
At night after dinner, Julie, his mother and the kids were sleeping together. He was at the
drawing room, reading the newspaper under the lamp, when It suddenly struck him,
"What would my father think of this family? Would he love living with us? He died when I didn't
even cross double digits, I can't remember his face either."
Bringing the kids back today had reminded him the first time he had tasted fatherhood, taking
the tiny little sweetheart in his arms, his heart had melted away. Something had changed in him
that very moment. Back to the present, he had really dreamt of living with his parents, Julie,
Sharon and Kevin, his younger brother Arthur and Arthur's family altogether. Had it not come
true due to circumstances but now he could. As he thought, so he did. He went out to dig his
father up. First he went to the tin shed, took his shovel out then broke into the cemetery to
search for David Grimes' grave. There he found it and forced his shovel into the soil. He started
digging.
Dig... Dig... Dig... *Crack*
