Dahlia remained quiet, tilting her head slightly as she tried to place the tone of Wynona's voice.
The woman was smiling, almost brightly, and her voice sounded as placid as it could possibly be.
Yet something about the way everyone's expressions subtly shifted rubbed Dahlia the wrong way.
"Is this a joke?" Douglas spoke up, frowning hard. "Dahlia came with me despite everyone in the department warning us not to come here."
"We chose to honor the invitation no one ever bothers with, and this is how you treat us?"
Wynona glanced at him, frowning as well.
He was nothing like the man she had seen yesterday. That man hadn't spared them a glance the entire time and hadn't spoken a single word to them.
If she wasn't imagining it, the look in his eyes whenever he regarded them was nothing short of condescending.
Recalling how hard she had restrained herself the previous day, Wynona finally let her frustration spill out and glared at him.
