OLEANDER
Did I do something wrong?
I worried my lower lip, staring at the door.
I had probably said too much, and he remembered the boundaries he had set for the two of us. I sighed, picking up the last toast on my plate and munching slowly on it.
"I should learn to keep my mouth shut next time," I mumbled.
Maybe it was the best thing to do, because if I hadn't said anything, he might have kissed me.
Or maybe you are the one thinking too much. Of course, Hex won't kiss you after always pushing you away like it's nothing.
I glared at the door, then turned away from it, forcing my thoughts away from Hex and back to Dante.
"Do you want more of that?"
I jolted back to the present, blinking at Clarice standing in front of me. She smiled warmly.
I shook my head. "I'm fine, and thank you for the meal. It's the best I've had in a while," I said.
"You don't have to keep thanking me," Clarice replied. "This is your home now, sweetheart. You might need to start getting used to it."
