Chapter 43 - fighting the cyborgs

The charged arrow cut through the air, heading toward one of the cyborgs who was just walking. Then his sensors felt an energy spike heading toward him. When he looked, he immediately spotted the arrow flying toward him, and because of his artificial fast reflexes, he immediately got into a stance and blocked the arrow with the blade that came out of his wrist.

The arrow sent him sliding back a few feet while he was still blocking it, until the last of the momentum faded and he stopped, the arrow dropping to the ground.

Him and his fellow cyborgs looked toward the direction where the arrow came from, and they saw Kai and John.

Ren, who had just finished the emergency text for backup, tried to put his phone in his pocket and turn around to talk to Kai and John, but then he heard explosions and things flying through the air extremely fast.

When he turned around, he saw Kai throwing his fire arrows and John throwing his charged arrows at the cyborgs that were running at them.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?.

He literally turned around to send one single text, and now their cover was blown and they were fighting the cyborg smugglers.

The cyborgs were dodging the arrows that were coming at them, and they were also communicating with each other quietly through some sort of communication system.

"I can Detect three individuals. It seems like two of them are ranged fighters, but one of the two ranged fighters has a sword, so he seems capable of close combat. One of them reported. We should bring them into the open and into a close-combat scenario. Since the active attempt of long-range combat means either they're not confident in winning in close range or long range is their strong point, so let's take them out right now."

"I'm on it," the third cyborg said, and immediately moved toward them, leaping from the ground to the wall and then backflipping behind the trio.

The movement was so fast and unexpected that none of them attempted to stop him, but now that he was behind them and about to swing his fist, they all backed out. But that meant they dropped to the first floor, and the other two cyborgs were now heading toward them directly.

"I will hear about whatever the hell made you think this was a good idea if we manage to survive this situation," Ren said angrily.

Kai, on the side, was feeling a little guilty. Even though he still believed that giving them time to do their thing would have been a mistake, he still felt guilty. But this wasn't the time to think about it. They were in the middle of a fight, and he was also too angry at the smuggler cyborgs.

To start the fight, John and Ren went after the ones running toward them, and Kai targeted the one behind them.

John clashed with the one he targeted before the one with the wrist blade and as soon as they got in range, they slashed at each other. The blades clashed, and the clash made it immediately obvious that John was the one who was more skilled in blade combat, but the cyborg was much more physically stronger, obviously.

So the clash pushed John back a little, and he immediately charged his sword and tried to swing at the cyborg, but the cyborg detected how much energy the sword had, and his assessment told him that blocking it would break his wrist blade. So instead, he dodged at the last minute and tried to attack, but John managed to block the attack, and the charged Attack was used for defence.

"This will be much more difficult than I thought."

The fight went on.

But back to Ren and Kai.

Ren was trying to keep the cyborg in check by keeping his distance, so he sent whip attacks and shade jabs, but the cyborg managed to dodge every single one of them, and then got in range suddenly in a burst of speed.

It was shocking.

Even though Ren anticipated it, it was too fast for him to react or to try to block it, so the cyborg hit him in the stomach with a strong blow, sending him flying to the wall.

Ren broke through the wall — that was how much power was behind that punch.

Ren laid there for a second, rubble from the wall scattered around him. Then Ren got up.

It was surprising — more of a surprise to him that he actually survived that blow.

But the reason he survived that blow was that he unconsciously activated Shadow Skeleton on his torso. So since the punch landed on his stomach and he broke through the wall from his back, he managed to survive all of that.

"Oh thank God… I just survived."

He was relieved. Really happy.

But before Ren could indulge in that relief any more, he heard the sound of metal coming toward him.

"Oh… I still have to deal with this," he muttered disappointedly, and got up helplessly to continue the fight.

Now to Kai.

Kai was facing the cyborg that was behind them. He got off the second floor and landed in front of Kai, so immediately after he landed, Kai threw an arrow at him.

The cyborg dodged immediately and started heading toward Kai. Kai tried to throw a couple more arrows, but again, the cyborg managed to dodge them pretty easily, and when he reached him, he threw a haymaker at Kai.

So in response, Kai created his fire sword and blocked it, but the cyborg didn't stop there. He kept throwing a bunch of punches. Kai tried his best to block them, but then a fist struck Kai's face hard — but it wasn't fatal or anything.

This cyborg immediately knew that Kai didn't have much durability, so he intentionally held back his punches, so Kai was very lucky that he didn't face Ren's opponent instead.

Anyways, Kai tried to block even more, but a couple of punches still landed on him. When a punch looked like it was about to hit Kai again, Kai summoned a second fire sword in his other hand and deflected it.

The cyborg was surprised, and Kai used that surprise to counterattack, finally landing a hit on the cyborg — but it wasn't much. It was only a scratch because of the angle and because Kai couldn't put all his strength behind that strike, especially because he did it only with one hand, and he isn't trained to fight with two swords anyways.

Now that he already used two swords, he started blocking with the two of them, and because of that, the rate of him getting hit became much slower — but he was again still being hit and losing.

So John, who noticed the situation, knew it was bad.

His two teammates were currently losing, and he was in an intense fight that he might not win — and even if he did, he would have to face two opponents like the one he faced before, but without his teammates since they were down.

So for the first time, he realized that he might have made a pretty terrible mistake.

He looked at Ren and Kai, who were being beaten pretty badly.

"We need help… Shit. I should have listened and called for backup."

And speaking of backup, two lightning bolts came out of the sky and hit the two opponents that John and Kai were facing.

And Ren, who was facing his opponent outside on the first floor, was almost about to clash, but then his opponent got pinned to the ground so fast Ren couldn't see what happened.

An explosion of dust appeared, making Ren unable to see what was happening for a second — until it cleared away.

And he saw Cass.
