Chapter 68 - The exam third test teamwork part 21

Cassandra Hale

I know the two of you met in Greenfield open day. and you spent most of your meeting flirting with her

The great-granddaughter of Blue Light and Starborn two of the greatest heroes in history and someone like you actually tried to flirt with her.

Astra Well, saying all of that, her poker face slowly broke into pure malice.

"Someone as pathetic and useless as you actually trying to get close to those two is absolutely revolting. You're a pathetic leech. If I could really kill you right now, I would do it."

Ren was now truly furious.

Is this bitch really targeting me because I'm hanging out with Kai and Cass?

She was really angry. In fact, he didn't want to let this go. He tried to get up, but Luke pressed the knife closer to his neck, making him stop for a second but he didn't stop glaring at Astra.

"Bitch, do you think I care about your threats? I will hang out with them if I want. I will spend my time with them if I want. It's none of your business. You're insane, bitch."

Astra got angrier and stepped closer.

"Oh, it is my business to keep you leeches in line even if those two don't agree."

Before taking the last step to reach him, she quickly composed herself and smiled calmly. She didn't fake her expression she really did put on a genuine smile, which made Ren shiver, knowing there was something wrong with it.

"Sydney, would you please bring your opponent here?" Astra said out loud, without looking anywhere in particular.

A few seconds later, Ren heard footsteps. He couldn't turn his head to see what was happening because of Luke, but eventually the person walking toward them came into his view.

It was a girl in a ponytail and she had Rex with his hands tied behind his back.

"Hey, hey, hey bitch, what the fuck are you planning? Why did you bring him here?"

Ren started to freak out. He had a guess about what was happening here, but it couldn't be the teleportation should protect him, right? There is no way she can hurt him.

Astra looked at his distressed state, just smiled, and stepped next to Sydney so he could see her clearly.

Hey, Ren, do you know how the teleportation system of the exam works?

Her words made Ren's stomach drop.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" he said unconsciously.

"Well, it's very simple. In fact, it was the first message of the exam that explaining it. Once a student gets a certain amount of damage, they get teleported out as long as the phone with the magic circle is on them."

Ren's eyes widened in horror.

Astra, seeing that, laughed out loud.

"Hahaha."

Then she calmed down and continued to explain.

"If it was that simple to break the safety net behind the exam, then Star Island would be in serious trouble, and their training methods would be questioned not only in safety but in reliability, you know."

"If the phone gets out of a certain range of the magic circle where the teleportation is effective, it will immediately teleport the student out before they can get out of range, as long as they are in the training areas of the exam. So that won't work."

"And you can't break the phones, because this magic circle also protects the phone, enhancing stability. So it's really hard to even scratch it. But if it gets scratched, you will be teleported out again."

Ren started to calm down.

Her explanation just showed how thorough the safety net of the exam was to the point that he was starting to get confused about where she was going with this.

And finally, she reached her point.

"The safety unit of the exam is pretty advanced. We can't just find a loophole because they nearly covered all of it… except for one."

"And that means—"

Ren went silent.

He didn't even make an expression. His face was completely blank.

Even Rex, who had been listening to all of this, was silent, trying to figure out what the hell was happening.

"The damage feature behind the magic circle is kind of complex. After all, there are different types of damages depending on where the student got hit and what type of damage was dealt, and how durable someone is."

"But generally, here's the idea: it will take less damage to eliminate someone if you hit vital areas. The more dangerous the attack that is coming toward that vital area, the less damage it takes to teleport you out sometimes it teleports you before it even hurts."

"And second—damage that is dealt to non-vital areas. Well, the amount of damage needed to eliminate someone through that method is slightly above two broken legs."

And with that, Astra moved her finger.

A thin light arc manifested quickly and hit Rex in the legs—

Breaking them.

"GHHHHHHHHHA—!"

Rex roared in pain.

"NOOOOOOO!"

Ren screamed, seeing his friend get injured like that.

Sydney just let go of Rex and let him drop on the ground, rolling around in pain.

"YOU BITCH, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" Ren screamed, glaring at Astra.

His eyes were tearing up. He was so furious he was hyperventilating his face turned red and his eyes started watering. He was so angry he had to focus on breathing.

Astra just looked into his eyes.

"This is a warning. If you don't listen to me and stay in your place, I will do something way worse. And don't think for a second about some stupid shit like if you become stronger you would be able to protect everyone. After all, you're only one person and you are on Star Island and not everyone you care about is on the island."

Her words made Ren remember his grandmother and his sister.

And that finally made him snap.

He immediately used his shades but he didn't use them to attack Luke or Astra.

No.

He summoned his shades from his stomach and used them to push himself up quickly.

The unexpected action shocked Luke for a second long enough for Ren to get on his feet. But Luke was still close enough and tried to stab him in the neck.

Ren instantly manifested Shadow Skeleton on his arm and grabbed the knife.

Then, with his left arm, he tried to elbow-strike Luke in the side and at the last second, before the elbow connected, he switched Shadow Skeleton to his left arm, sending Luke back while clutching his side in pain.

The moment Ren was free, he immediately charged toward Astra.

But she looked absolutely calm even though Ren was charging at her in pure fury.

Once Ren got close enough to punch her in the face, he pulled his fist back—

But he felt something scratch his neck.

Something that looked like it was made of light passed his neck so fast he couldn't react.

And then—

He got teleported back.

Ren failed the third test.

And the worst part at least for him.

Was that he couldn't even touch a hair on Astra.
