Chapter 135 - Waves #7

Land Of Waves :

The morning light in the Land of Waves did not arrive with the golden warmth of Konoha. Instead, it filtered through a thick, salt-crusted haze, spilling across the floorboards of Tazuna's house in pale, sickly streaks.

Naruto sat up, the damp air clinging to his skin like a second layer of clothing. His eyes were puffy, a physical manifestation of the mental strain from the previous night's surgical precision and the heavy management of his MindHub.

Naruto glanced to his left. Sakura was still sprawled on her futon, her sleep fitful and shadowed by the previous day's trauma. He watched the rise and fall of her shoulders for a moment, his expression unreadable, before he stood up and moved with the silent, walk around the house.

After a quick, morning routine in the cramped bathroom—scrubbing the phantom sensation of Kakashi's blood from his cuticles—he entered the kitchen. The atmosphere was stifling. Tazuna, his daughter Tsunami, and the young boy, Inari, were already gathered around the low table.

"Ahh, come... let's have breakfast," Tazuna offered, though his voice lacked its usual bravado. The bridge builder looked ten years older than he had when they left the Leaf.

Naruto sat, accepting a bowl of watery miso and a small portion of rice. The table was a vacuum of conversation. Tazuna made several clumsy attempts to bridge the silence, asking about the "other two," but Naruto's responses were short .

"They're stable," Naruto said, his eyes focused on his bowl. "They need rest. Thank you for the food."

He finished quickly, bowed with a polite but distant formality, and stepped out into the humid morning.

As Naruto crossed the threshold, Naruto's senses expanded. He didn't just look; he perceived. Four ANBU signatures were active in a tight perimeter, their chakra suppressed but humming with readiness. The others were resting, rotated out after a night of high-alert guarding.

(Let's see.... found you,)

Naruto thought, his Kagura's Mind Eye sweeping the surrounding forest until it caught a familiar, cool, and rhythmic signature.

Naruto didn't head directly for the woods. Instead, he began a slow, deliberate stroll through the town. He purposefully shed the high-tension aura of a shinobi, adopting the gait of a civilian, though his Black-and-Red clothing still marked him as an outsider.

Naruto walked through the town and observed and soon came to a conclusion

( The town was a portrait of systemic collapse )

He saw men with hollowed-out eyes sitting in the dirt, women clutching thin shawls against the dampness, and children whose ribs were visible beneath their tattered tunics. There was no commerce here, only survival. The shops were shells—empty shelves and desperate merchants.

(I guess... it's good I was born in Konoha,)

Naruto thought while walking . looking at the poverty , Naruto's mind headed back to this morning .

Through his Halo Eyes, he recalled the state of Tazuna's pantry from the night before. It was almost bare. The bridge builder was pouring every cent and every calorie into that bridge, a grand, desperate gamble that left his own grandson hungry.

Remembering Tazuna's 5 year old Grandson , who lost his father early and now struggling like this , Naruto's thoughts stirred , A memory of his mother's teachings from a distant life—tugged at his conscience.

(...F**ck. I hate charity,) he thought, a scowl flickering across his face.

( But My Parents brought me up better )

Grumbling , Naruto made a sharp, one-handed sign as he passed an alley. Two Shadow Clones erupted into existence in the shadows. They didn't speak; they simply used Body Flicker to vanish toward the deep forest, Naruto sighed while looking at the streets and the town's people .

( ..... No need to think much , You are no Hero )

Naruto stopped at a roadside stall, purchasing a simple bamboo basket for a few coins. He left the town behind, heading toward a sloping hill where the vegetation grew thick and the "Target's" chakra was most concentrated.

Before entering the clearing, he ducked behind a massive oak. In a few quick movements, he stripped off his tactical vest and mesh armor, stuffing them into a storage seal. He emerged wearing only a plain white shirt , shorts and a single weapon pouch at thigh —standard casual wear that made him look younger, softer, and infinitely more vulnerable.

Naruto paused, pressing his palm against the oak's bark to leave a subtle Hiraishin mark. He then glanced toward the canopy, signaling the two ANBU who were shadowing him to stay back.

He stepped into the clearing.

It was a beautiful, sun-dappled space filled with wild medicinal herbs—yarrow, ginger root, and marsh-mallow.

Naruto knelt in the grass, his back turned to the dense treeline where the cool chakra signature lingered. He began to meticulously pick the herbs, placing them in his basket with a focused, "clueless" intensity.

He hummed a low, tuneless melody, his body relaxed, everything hidden except for a single weapon pouch , to make everything look realistic .

He wasn't just gathering medicine; he was baiting . Naruto knew Haku was a "merciful" killer. But He wanted to see if the boy in the mask was the same boy who picked flowers in the morning light.

( merciful or not , Killer is a killler , I don't think Haku will stay his hands under Zabuza's watch ....BUT )

Naruto sensed the bush move. The cool chakra was moving closer.

(Come on,) Naruto thought, his fingers gently tugging a root from the soil. (Let's see who you really are when the Demon isn't watching )

And so the acting skill once again started running.

Herb Clearing :

The morning air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the medicinal tang of crushed yarrow.

Haku moved through the hilly outskirts of the town with heavy, leaden steps. Every muscle in that lithe frame screamed in protest, a lingering reminder of the brutal exchange with the Blonde shadow-clones the day before.

He and Zabuza were broken—physically . They had retreated from the clearing with their lives,

In Haku's mind, the ledger was simple: Both of them were wounded and the Leaf had survived with two elite shinobi—Kakashi and the enigmatic blonde boy—virtually unscathed.

They were entirely unaware that a second, far more lethal shadow had descended upon Hatake Kakashi after their departure.

Zabuza's voice had been a low, raspy growl when they discussed the mission's failure.

"That Blonde...," Zabuza had murmured, his eyes reflecting a rare flick of genuine unease. "He maintained a high-level barrier while supporting the Copy Ninja and protecting that builder ....also tracking my every move in that fight , He wasn't even breathing hard while using those clones "

"....."

"...his main body was infront of me , the one who defeated you were also just clones ."

Haku tightened his grip on his herb basket, his knuckles whitening. The memory of his own defeat at the hands of Naruto's clones stung worse than the wounds.

And then there was Gato. That bloated, arrogant merchant had dared to threaten Zabuza-sama yesterday, his voice a shrill, grating noise in their sanctuary. Haku had felt his blood turn to ice, a killing intent so cold it nearly manifested, but he had breathed out, centering himself. For now, the mission—and Zabuza-sama's recovery—took precedence over a merchant's pride.

Haku pushed through a dense thicket and emerged into a sun-dappled clearing. There, in the center of a patch of wild ginger, sat a blonde boy. He was dressed simply in a white shirt and shorts, his back turned, his focus entirely consumed by the plants in front of him.

Recognition hit Haku like a physical blow. The injuries in his chest flared with a dull ache.

( It's him )

Haku moved with the silent, grace of an assassin, his pink kimono fluttering like a cherry blossom in the breeze. He closed the distance until he was only paces away, his gaze fixed on the vulnerable curve of the boy's neck.

Naruto's ears twitched. He turned his head slowly, his blue eyes wide and reflecting the morning sky. To Haku, he looked utterly civilian—a child playing in the woods.

"Ohh, you scared me, miss!" Naruto exclaimed, his voice bright and devoid of any killing intent.

"You seemed so focused that I didn't want to disturb you," Haku replied softly, keeping his voice in a gentle, melodic register.

"Oh, good morning!" Naruto beamed, standing up and wiping his dirt-smudged hands on his shorts. "My name is Uzumaki Naruto."

"…Good morning. I am Haku."

"What are you doing here, nee san?" Naruto asked, tilting his head.

Haku's eyes widened slightly at the suffix, but he maintained the facade, pushing his basket forward so Naruto could see the contents. "Gathering medical herbs, just like you."

"Oh, what a coincidence! So, what kind of herbs?"

"Um, for healing injuries, sickness, and the like," Haku explained.

"Oh! Want my help?"

The question caught Haku off guard. "Eh?"

Before he could protest, Naruto was at his side. Using his uncanny knowledge of the local flora—augmented by a clinical, system-driven precision Haku couldn't see—Naruto began to point out the highest-quality roots. They moved through the clearing together, the air between them filled with the idle, innocent chatter of two strangers.

"You've got a lot to do early in the morning, nee-san," Naruto noted, plucking a stalk of marsh-mallow.

"You too, Naruto-kun. What have you been doing in a place like this so early?"

"Haha, it was the same! Some medicine for my companions and thinking of some training."

"Training?" Haku paused, his eyes narrowing ever so slightly. "Could it be that... you're a ninja or something? Now that I look closely, with that headband and..."

Naruto let out a boisterous, almost idiotic giggle, rubbing the back of his head. "Haha! Do I look like a Ninja? Haha, yes! You got it right, sis! I am a Ninja!"

"Ohhh," Haku said, feigning a soft gasp of wonder. "To be a Ninja... Naruto-kun is awesome."

"Haha!"

"Naruto-kun must be strong."

"Haha, of course! I train a lot, you know!" Naruto declared, puffing out his chest like a proud rooster.

"Train..." Haku's voice dropped an octave, the playfulness fading into something more profound. "Why do you train, Naruto-kun?"

"Eh? To become stronger, of course!"

"....But Naruto-kun, you already look strong enough."

"No, no! I want to be more and more stronger!"

Haku looked down at the herbs in his basket, his eyes dipping into a melancholic shadow. He spoke again, his voice barely a whisper against the rustle of the leaves. "What for?"

"Hmm?.... To become Hokage, of course! The strongest Hokage of all time!"

"Strongest Hokage?"

"Yes! I am going to get everyone to recognize my strength and acknowledge my existence!" Naruto clenched his fist, winking with a theatrical confidence that seemed to radiate from his very being.

Haku took a breath. He stepped closer, catching Naruto off-guard with that beauty , Haku spoke while leaning in with an urgent, searching intensity. "Is that for the sake of somebody... or is it for your own sake?"

"Huh?" Naruto's face scrunched up into an expression of pure, unadulterated confusion—the look of a student sitting in a math class , understanding every word , but not getting anything .

Looking at the "stupid" blonde boy, Haku couldn't help but chuckle. It was a soft, genuine sound. "Huhu."

"What's so funny?" Naruto grumbled, pouting.

Haku looked up, his smile radiant and full of a tragic beauty that almost made Naruto's internal "MindHub" skip a beat. The sun caught the glint in Haku's eyes as he asked the pivotal question: "Do you have someone precious in your life?"

"Precious? ...What is it you want to say, sis?"

At the question, Haku's mind drifted. He remembered the freezing rain of his childhood. He saw the trash cans, the feral dogs, the cold bridge where the world had left him to die. And then, he saw the man who had given him a purpose.

( Zabuza-sama )

The clearing fell into a heavy, contemplative silence. Naruto watched him, his expression one of "puzzled" curiosity.

"When a person has something precious they want to protect," Haku said, looking straight into Naruto's blue eyes with a terrifyingly clear resolve, "that is when they can truly become stronger."

The words hit harder despite the preparations Naruto did in advance , something about that voice , expression , determination and even the Atmosphere everything , It all affected Naruto in an instant .

Naruto's eyes went blank. For a fleeting second, the mask of the "idiot genin" cracked. Behind his eyes, a flood of memories from two different lives surged. He saw his mother, father and sister from a world of steel and glass; he saw the concept of love & preciousness he had once known.

But soon memories surged from this life , he saw the shy girl who looked at him as a person, not a monster. Someone who will stay by his side even knowing the outcome being death .

then there was Another quivering girl who didn't hesitate to acknowledge him in front of whole village for the first time in this life .who declared him as an individual and not a monster with all her reslove and those eyes .

Just when the memories were ending , another silhouette flashed

A bloodied and broken Man , on his last breath , who looked at him in the eye and declared while charging towards his absolute death without wavering a second

(I ABSOLUTELY WON'T ALLOW MY COMRADES TO BE KILLED!)

Remembering that moment , Naruto's eyes soon gained focus , a cold realization settling in his chest. He felt a flicker of annoyance at his own momentary lapse in focus.

Even with the MindHub partitioning his thoughts, the weight of Haku's sincerity had momentarily grounded him. He stared into Haku's gaze—a gaze full of absolute, unwavering loyalty toward a man like Zabuza.

(....Precious ) Naruto sighed looking at Haku

Shaking his head, Naruto let a genuine smile—the first of its kind—touch his lips. "Yeah. I know that well, too."

Haku's eyes widened at the sincerity in Naruto's tone. He felt a kinship in that moment, a bond of shared philosophy. Haku Smiled and stood up, hoisting his basket. "You will get strong, Naruto-kun."

"Mm."

"Then excuse me. I have to head somewhere."

Haku turned his back, taking a single step toward the trees.

O2 Breathing : 5th Form - Gentle whispers

[ Hyper Reflexes ]

In a one-meter radius, the world slowed to a crawl. Naruto's body shifted with a velocity that defied human anatomy. He didn't move like a boy; he moved like a localized distortion in space. His hand, already coated in a specialized, fast-drying sealing ink, blurred through the air.

In this distance even Elite Jonins will have troubles reacting, much less a boy like Haku.

Naruto touched the nape of Haku's neck, his fingers trailing down the spine with lightning precision.

"Chakra Imprisonment Seal " — Max Level

The runes—a complex, dense web of ink and chakra—exploded outward from the point of contact. They didn't just bind; they paralyzed, severing the connection between the brain and the tenketsu in a matter of milliseconds.

Thud.

Haku's body hit the dirt like a felled tree. He lay paralyzed, his eyes wide open in absolute, shattering disbelief. The transition was so fast his brain was still processing the smile Naruto had given him a second ago.

The person he had shared his most vulnerable thoughts with—the person he thought was just like him—had just struck from the dark.

A moment later, two figures shimmered into existence beside Naruto. Yugao looked down at the girl in the pink kimono, her hand on the hilt of her sword.

"So, what's with the girl?" she asked, her voice muffled by her ANBU mask.

"…It's the Ice element user that attacked Sasuke," Naruto replied, his voice no longer bright or playful. It was flat , devoid of the warmth from the clearing.

"You sure?"

"I can sense chakra, Nee-san," Naruto said, standing over his captive.

Haku lay in the mud, a bitter, crushing feeling blooming in his chest. The betrayal was so devastating that it felt like a physical weight pressing on his lungs.

(So it was all lies... Zabuza-sama... I let you down...)

Author's notes :

The Wave Arc will be over in 2 chapters .

At first ,I wanted Naruto to kill Haku in cold blood instead of sealing here , Like a stab in the Back like a Psycho killer , and after killing Haku , Naruto will question his choices and have regrets , and in this way , this moment will help naruto grow and stop him in going the same direction as some emotionless Husk .

But then I changed my mind , I thought i will get too much hatred for that scenario and may also lose my precious readers.

Now I will ask you , if it was alright or should i have killed haku

well the chapter is still written , but i would still like to hear you thoughts

you can also guess Haku's future arrangement and other stuff in the wave arc.

If you have ideas then don't hesitate to share .

Thanks for your support
