Chapter 19 - CHAPTER 19: What's an ability?!

I looked around trying to find the girl's mother perhaps, it wouldn't make sense for the girl to be the one who got me. Her mom or dad must have told her to help me out because I looked young and vulnerable. The urge to ask her where her parents were was unbearable, but I didn't want to be disrespectful. 'Dammit where are her parents they should be the ones I'm thanking!' I mused. The girls' eyes met mine once more, "I know what you're thinking right now and for the answer my parents died in a car crash, but I was old enough to live by myself." "I also had a large amount of money saved in my bank plus my dad's will which gave me lots more." "Oh yeah and I'm not around your age I'm twenty-five I'm turning twenty-six in a few months."

My eyes immediately widened. How did she know what I was thinking and was she listening to what I'm thinking right now? Is there a way to think without thinking, or to avoid this crack in humans that leads them to hear my thoughts? The girl smiled at me, "no there is no way to stop my mind reading." "Also, this is an ability that I was born with really the only way to stop me from having this ability is with a potion." "A potion crafted specifically for my ability." I paused remembering something that she had told me, "Did you hear your parents last thoughts before they died?" The question sounded personal even for me but the girl had shared a lot of private things so I was hoping she would let it slide.

"Don't worry little one I don't mind answering, no I wasn't there with them." I raised my eyebrows clearly perplexed, "wait so you have to be near by the person to hear their thoughts or in the same room?" "And can you hear multiple thoughts at a time if theirs's lots of people in a room?" "How do you pick which one you want to intrude on!" The girl smiled and took a deep breath looking straight at me. For a moment I thought she was my mom giving me good news, like oh Nina my sweetie I found a fresh steak and it's still full. It's from the most expensive store! It was just the girl though, and I sighed remembering what happened to her. The death she never deserved, and again it was all because of my damn dad.

"Slow down! now, no I can't listen to everyone's thoughts all together in one room I hear the thoughts of the one I am closest to." "And I don't mean middle of the class between two students is equal and I hear no one's thoughts." "It's down to the thou which if you don't know little one is the thousandth percentile of an inch so it's pretty small." The girl smiled, "tiny right that's how precise it needs to be, I've never not been able to hear people's thoughts when I was in a crowded room." The girl suddenly started laughing to my surprise, "why did I use students as an example that's actually like ridiculous." I smiled confused why she was acting like she was close to me, as if we had known each other for years.

I paused my train of thought for a second, and my eyes widened because I had just remembered yet again that the girl could read my mind. I really hoped she wasn't hurt because I didn't mean to think that. It was just so different with this girl, because normally thoughts were my privacy where I could think sh*t about anyone. But with this girl It was like saying your thoughts out loud, it even worked the same way too. I watched the girl's eyes get teary, and I was about to hug her and apologize but then her face folded. She shot me a smile as if nothing had happened, 'okay?!' I mused. "I know we don't know each other much but I really want to get to know you since I don't have any siblings." I sighed, what a terrible person I am making this girl upset because of my dumb decisions.

"What's your name?" she uttered through sniffles which I guessed were from her almost crying. AGAIN, WITH THE MIND READING AM I STUPID I NEED TO STOP THINKING RIGHT NOW! I watched the girl's eyes become teary once more and then boom her shining face is back on. Making you feel attracted to her happiness and possibly making you happy and positive. I smiled at her, "I'm Nina, Nina Boltan." In moments maybe fewer the girl though her hand onto her mouth and started backing away from me. "YOU KILLED YOUR OWN MOM YOU PSYCHO YOU KILLED YOUR OWN MOM I SAW IT IN THE NEWS!" I cried in an instant when those harsh words left her mouth.

My dad had seriously lied and said that I killed my mom when he was the one who hired a sniper and killed her. He wanted me to crack so he could find me and kill me; this was his way of getting people to fear me. Possibly turn me in to him and he would give them a reward. This girl was one of them and judging by her reaction I'm pretty sure everyone felt the same. I had a feeling that lots of people heard of this rumor, this time though he went way too far. I loved my mom and I still do, that was the worst thing he could've possibly done and he still chose it. The girl slowly inched closer to me, I guessed it was because she heard my thoughts. "I'm sorry Nina, everyone knows you, but they hate you even more now." I sighed, "I know but why didn't you know that my mom was killed by someone else I was thinking about it before I told you, my name."

"I was zoned out and didn't hear that thought exactly how you zone out on someone talking and you can't hear them anymore. I tried to imagine zoning out somebody's thoughts, but I couldn't even imagine someone listening to my thoughts anyway. "Ok all of this aside for a second you said mind reading is your ability, but I just can't even like what's and ability!?" Iris smiled, like magic powers expect it's not all that silly stuff It's mostly always real-world things that can help you out." I gulped, "what are magic powers?" The girl looked at me with a look of anger mixed with pure confusion, mostly confusion though. "Where is your childhood kid! how do you not know what magic powers are." "Eh I'm not really much of a fantasy fan I like other things." "Well, I'm afraid there is no other way to tell you then." The girl paused, "an ability is an ability that's all I can tell you."
