Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Two tiny Pokémon

The Next Day

Ryan's mother finally noticed the eggs.

In the afternoon, when she entered his room to clean, she suddenly stopped. Her eyes locked onto the two eggs on the bed, and a deep frown formed on her face.

"Ryan… whose eggs are these?"

Ryan was downstairs eating a snack when he heard her voice.

His eyes widened.

Oh no! She found them!

"O-oh no!" He dropped his spoon and ran upstairs quickly.

I saw her standing by the bed.

"I… I found them," Ryan said, trying not to panic.

His mother narrowed her eyes. She definitely didn't believe that, but when Ryan looked up at her with those big, innocent purple-hazel eyes…

She exhaled slowly.

"This child… Fine. But your father has to agree first. And you must take care of them properly. No excuses."

Ryan nodded fast, almost too fast. Yes! She said yes!

That evening, his father came home. Ryan's mother immediately told him everything.

His father listened, then laughed while eating dinner.

"He probably just found them somewhere. Let him keep them. I'll bring two Poké Balls tomorrow when I come back from work."

That was the only reason his mother gave up so easily.

A Week Passed

Ryan had gotten used to sleeping with the eggs beside him, pillows all around them like a tiny nest.

The moonlight poured softly through the window that night.

Crack.

A small sound echoed.

Then another.

Both eggs trembled lightly, their shells splitting at the same moment.

A tiny, round Buneary tumbled out first, soft fur sticking up everywhere.

Beside it, a small green Sprigatito stretched its legs, blinking sleepily.

Both were exhausted from hatching.

Without even thinking, they crawled toward the warmth of Ryan's body.

They curled up against his arm, tiny and trembling, as if they had always belonged there.

---

MORNING…

Ryan woke up slowly. Something soft and warm was touching his hand.

"Huh…?"

He looked down and stopped moving.

Two tiny Pokémon were sleeping right next to him. Buneary's fluffy ear was lying on his wrist. Sprigatito's little paw was resting on his fingers.

Buneary woke up first. "Bun! Bun!" she said happily and waved her tiny paw at him.

Sprigatito opened its eyes and made a soft, shaky "Meow… meow…" It sounded like it wanted to cry. The little grass kitty rubbed its cheek on Ryan's hand and gently pressed its paws against his fingers, asking for food.

Both Pokémon were really, really hungry.

Ryan was still sleepy. "Wait… What are you doing… are you hungry?"

He jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. The two little Pokémon tried to follow fast. Their legs were short, so they tripped a bit but kept calling for food.

Ryan looked in the kitchen and found a bag of Pokémon food. He poured some into two bowls and put them on the floor.

Buneary hopped over, sniffed, and started eating right away. Every few bites she used her tiny paw to pull more food closer.

Sprigatito came slowly, touched the bowl with its paw first, then ate in small, pretty bites.

Ryan sat on the floor and watched them with big curious eyes. He reached out and rubbed Buneary's head gently. She stopped eating for a second, leaned into his hand, and wiggled her ears.

"They're… so cute," he whispered. Then he petted Sprigatito's soft fur too.

Just then he heard footsteps. Mom and Dad walked in, still wearing pajamas. They stopped when they saw the Pokémon.

Mom gasped. "Ryan… are those…?"

Ryan's eyes got big and he said excitedly, "They came out of the eggs!"

Dad stepped closer, stared at the two tiny Pokémon, and said in real surprise, "I've never seen Pokémon like these before…"

Ryan's heart went fast. Oh no! Of course they've never seen them. Buneary is from Sinnoh and Sprigatito is from Paldea. Almost nobody here knows those Pokémon!

But he forced a big, excited smile and acted like everything was totally normal.

"Yeah… they must be super rare!"

Mom and Dad looked at each other for a long time, then just nodded.

Dad said, "Okay. You hatched them, so now they're your responsibility. You have to take care of them, understand?"

Ryan nodded fast. "Yes! I will!" I promise I will!

Mom smiled. "Bring them some water, honey."

Ryan took a flat bowl, filled it with water, and put it down.

Buneary got super excited. She reached out with both tiny paws and tried to grab the bowl to lift it up to her mouth, just like she does with food.

But the bowl was slippery and heavy for her little hands. It tipped, whoops! Water splashed everywhere on the floor.

Mom smiled and said, "Pour it in a cup, sweetie."

Ryan right away grabbed a small cup and poured the water into it.

Now Buneary could drink without spilling. She put her little paws on the cup and drank happily.

Sprigatito drank slowly and nicely, sticking its pink tongue in and out.

Ryan sat back and smiled really big.

This was real.

I have my own Pokémon now. Two super cute Pokémon from different regions!

He kept watching them drink and eat, making sure they were happy.

Mom and Dad stood in the doorway. Big, warm smiles appeared on their faces as they watched their son take care of his Pokémon.

YEARS LATER, Ryan is about 7 now

I go to school every day and I really like it. The best part is I can bring Buneary and Sprigatito with me!

During break time, all of us kids get to play with Pokémon together in the yard. There are so many Pokémon! Even the big kids from the senior classes bring theirs, so the yard is full of them running and jumping.

I always let Buneary and Sprigatito play too. In my whole class, only two kids have Pokémon: me and my good friend Bran. We are best friends because of that! Everyone else just watches or pets them, and everyone is super nice.

In Viridian City there is almost no stealing or bad stuff. Maybe, because Team Rocket's main base is here, so even the bad guys stay quiet and don't make trouble.

School is great. But the best part of my day started when the bell rang. That's when our real adventures began exploring.

We walk through the streets, the forests nearby, and even the quiet paths close to the Gym.

Every day feels like an adventure with my two best Pokémon friends!

Even though I love Pokémon a lot, I never really played the games in my old life, and I never got to watch the Horizons show, so I don't know much about Buneary and Sprigatito.

Exploring with them every day helps me learn so much more.

I now know what they like to eat, how they play, what makes them happy or scared, and even what moves they can use!

Buneary loves sweet berries and gets super happy when I scratch behind her ears. When she's excited she uses Pound with her tiny paws or does a cute little Jump Kick that's still weak but so cool. If something scares her, she instantly curls up and a blue barrier pops up around her as she uses Protect.

Sprigatito likes sour and spicy food the most. She rubs her head on my leg when she wants attention. Her Leafage is already strong enough to cut small branches, and when she plays she uses Scratch super fast. If she gets scared she puffs up her fur and hisses, but she calms down the moment I pick her up.

Every day we discover something new. I write everything in my little notebook so I never forget.

That's how my normal days go now: school, then adventures with my friends!
